Abstract: Rashad Ali Bibi (1919-1991) was a writer, as well as a radio and television journalist

and producer. He started his career as editor-in-chief of aṣ-Ṣirāṭ al-Mustaqīm, one the most

widely read daily newspapers in Palestine at the time. However, he spent the greater part of his

professional life working with radio and television stations, a journey that he started with the

Near East Radio Station in Palestine. He also produced programs for London, Amman, and

Kuwait radio stations, and he was a prolific producer of radio conversations and literary

articles. The collection comprises documents and photos that reflect different stages and

achievements in his personal, academic, social, and professional life.

Scope and Content

The Rashad Bibi collection comprises Bibi’s personal documents such as correspondence,

addresses, an account book, and professional documents i.e., copies of radio conversations,

lists of names of guests for television episodes, official papers from the Ministry of Guidance

and Information of Kuwait, episodes of radio programs, comments and suggestions for some

literary works, poems, and a play. In addition, the collection includes various literary works

(poems by Arab poets, stories by Professor Wafiq ʻAlayili, and memoirs of scholar and

historian Ajaj Nuwayhid); his interviews with celebrities, Arab artists, men of letters, public

figures, and physicians at many television and radio stations (mainly at the Near East

Broadcasting station). Added to all of the above, the legacy of Bibi at AUB libraries comprises

468 photos that portray different facets of his personal, academic, social, and professional life

as a prominent Palestinian scholar and journalist.

Arrangement

The Collection is arranged in two sets, archival material and photographs. Within each set,

there are four series.

Biographical Sketch

Born in 1919, Rashad Ali Bibi was born in Jaffa (Palestine), where he completed his primary

and secondary education. He went to Cairo for his higher education and graduated from the

American University of Cairo in 1934. Bibi’s career was marked by a long series of

accomplishments that added to a rich portfolio until he passed away in 1991. He worked as

editor-in-chief of a daily newspaper in Palestine, aṣ-Ṣirāṭ al-mustaqīm. He went on to work for

different radio and television stations in the Arab World, where he spent the greater part of his

productive life. He started at Near East Radio Station until he became an observer of the

programs and a trainer for broadcasters. Bibi was also a reporter for the British Radio in Beirut,

and then an expert at the Jordanian Radio, as well as a presenter at the Lebanese Television

Network. In 1964, he became the host of the Télé Liban program Al-Fann Hiwayati ( وايتيالفن ه ).

Al-Fann Hiwayati introduced many prominent Lebanese singers to the public; namely, singers

and musicians Issam Rajji (عصام رجي), Melhem Barakat (ملحم بركات), and Joseph Azar ( جوزيف

In parallel to all these projects, Bibi is renowned for having produced programs for .(عازار

London, Amman, and Kuwait radio stations, in addition to his prolific production of radio

conversations and literary articles.

تحكيم في مباراة شعرية في الشعراء العرب الذين دعاهم السيد نويهض من لبنان ليقوموا بال -

قد الصغير( واالستاذ خليل مردم دعاهم من لبنان الى القدس ليقوموا بالتحكيم في مباراة شعرية و

قدم هؤالء الشعراء تحية الى فلسطين العربية فأنابوا عنهم االخطل الصغير الذي أذاع االبيات

المذكورة.

وكنت أحتفظ بنسخة 1948ولما كانت أوراقي ومكتبتي وبيتي نهبه اليهود سنة :1942محدثي سنة -

1942ن من محدثي سنة ثالثة من ما أريد أن أحتفظ به من اوراق االذاعة فإني أستطيع ان أذكر أ

العالمة االستاذ محمد رئيس مجمع اللغة العربية في دمشق والشيخ عبد العاليلي المصري واالستاذ

محمود العقاد واالستاذ ابراهيم عبد المازن القادري والشيخ مصطفى الغالييني واالستاذ سامي

ذ نسيم يزبك. ومن االوانس الكيالي صاحب "مجلة الحديث " واالستاذ خليل تقي الدين واالستا

والسيدات: السيدة أسمى طوبى واالنسة قدسية خورشيد والسيدة ماري صروف شحاده وجميع هؤالء

.حديث االذاعةظهرت أحاديثهم في الجزء االول من كتاب

كما اني اشير الى نهر من جملة العلماء كبار المدعوين من أدباء وعلماء إللقاء أحاديث في االذاعة: -

والباحثين منهم االستاذ عبد اللطيف الطيباوي، وهو في لندن اليوم، واالستاذ محمد عبد السالم

كان االحتفاء بشهر 1943البرغوثي والشيخ سليمان الجعبري واالستاذ خليل بيدس. وفي سنة

بل من رمضان بالقسم العربي احتفاء لم يكن له نظير بالعالم العربي وأقول ذلك ال من قبيل التفاخر

قبيل تقليد الحقيقة اذ كان كما قلت شعاري مأخوذا من شعار ابو تمام:

"في الشام أهلي وبغداد الهوى وأنا في الرقمتين وفي الفسطاط إخواني".

عراق عبد الوهاب عزام والدكتور المصري محمد عوض محمد ومن ال: وكان من كبار المدعوين

العالمة طه الراوي.

في ايراد المبادئ التي مشيت عليها وهي العناية بالنشئ العربي فقد كان هناك قبل برنامج األحداث: -

وجعلت أخاطب هذا النشئ في جميع برنامج األحداث فحولته الى لحديث االطفامجيئي حديث اسمه

. ووضع نشيد بسيط بكالمه ومعناه لهذا البالد العربية وبيت القصيد والمغزى فلسطين على الدوام

: النشئ هو

أيها الفتى عيدك الكبير مقبل متى "أيها الفتى أنت في غد شعلة االمل

تدي الوطن"فهاتفا غدا أ عندما تصيرراعي الوطن

ي المنازل والبيوت ويغنيه االحداث في مجتمعاتهم حتى في بعض وكان هذا النشيد يسمع ف

لما جئت االذاعة وجدت ان الموسيقار العربي المشهور "أمير الكمان" سامي الشوا سامي الشوا: -

له عالقة باالذاعة ولكنني لم أكن قد عرفته من قبل معرفة شخصية وانما كنت اسمع من اخواني

ء المستطاب عليه وكان مجرد ذكر أمير الكمان اشارة الى نبوغ سامي الشوا في الكمان فجعلته الثنا

وكنت لما أقيم حفلة تكريم للضيوف كل سنة .يكثر من اقامة الحفالت على كمانه في القسم العربي

أقل آخر رمضان أدعوا اليها أعيان فلسطين ال أعيان القدس وحدها وأحيانا يشترك في الحضور ال

من عشرة من كبار موظفي الحكومة االنكليز ولن أنسى بحياتي سامي الشوا وهو يعزف ارتجاال في

عزفا أدهش االنكليز قبل العرب. وفي االربع سنوات التي قضيتها في 1943احدى الحفالت سنة

لعربية االذاعة كنت أدعوه في شهر رمضان الكريم كل سنة فيمضي الشهر في القدس مغذيا البالد ا

مهنيا دون الكالم على خلقه المتناهي في الدماثة يكون جيب. ولكن الكالم عن سامي الشوابكمانه الع

شيئا ناقصا وهو كان كثير التطواف في العالم في العالم العربي وفي المهاجر. وسامي الشوا في

ر داوود ونحن لم تواضعه ينقلب كالطفل وبين أصدقائه كالحمل الوديع ويعزف على الكمان مزامي

نسمع مزامير داوود ولكننا ال نعتقد أنها كانت أرقى فنا من عزف سامي الشوا والسيما أن له معزوفة

وهي "اآلذان " عندما تسمع آذانه على الكمان يتوالك الخشوع والهيبة. وله شبه رواية عنوانها

ره المعتاد في صحراء ثم "بدوي تائه في الصحراء" وفي هذه المعزوفة يصور البدوي سائرا سي

هبت عليه عاصفة هوجاء فأخذ يغالب العاصفة حتى خرج منها سالما ظافرا. وكان من البراعة

بحيث يجعلك تتصور هب العاصفة ثم االنتهاء الى السالمة. وكان اقترح علي شيئا مما لم أستطع أن

لسية علي البطش من حلب لكي انفذه مع االسف فقد اقترح علي أن ادعو آخر حافظ للموشحات االند

يأتي الى القدس ويتعاون معه سامي الشوا على تسجيل ما يحفظ علي البطش من الموشحات

االندلسية. وكان علي البطش رحمه هللا في هذا الباب بقية السلف الصالح. ولما توفي سامي الشوا لم

لي ان ايامه االخيرة كانت أدري بوفاته اال بعد فترة فأخذت استقصي أمره وهو في مصر فقيل

مزعجة له بسبب أطماع من أقربائه في ارثه رحمه هللا وأسكنه في الجنان مع الرضوان.

كان المندوب السامي البريطاني يزور القسم العربي خاصة زيارة المندوب السامي للقسم العربي: -

يعمل من صميم قلبه وكله كل سنة مرة، ال تشجيعا لهذا القسم في خالل الحرب الن كل موظف كان

ايمان الن فلسطين ستبقى للعرب بعد الحرب العالمية الثانية. ولكن هذه الزيارة من المندوب السامي

كل سنة كانت اعترافا لالنكليز بصحة برامج القسم العربي وقد مر في االوراق الشروط التي

لقة بالبرامج.اشترطها السلطات البريطانية في المفاوضات بيني وبينهم المتع

لم يكن يخفى علي ان العرب بعد السنة االولى من الحرب قد أعلنوا في محاولة تدخل االنكليز: -

مصر والعراق وسوريا أنهم في سباق للديمقراطية التي يقول الحلفاء انهم يحاربون من أجلها وكنت

ولكنهم كانوا يعلمون ان هتلر أعتقد ان العرب لم يعلنوا ذلك عن طريق زعمائهم اعتقادا قلبيا منهم

الذي بهر العالم بانتصاراته االولى لم يعلن بصراحة انه اذا اتى الى الشرق فكل بالد فيها استعمار

انكليزي أو فرنسي تغدو محررة وتصريحات العرب بإيثار الديمقراطية والديمقراطية استعمارية.

لقسم العربي وقتئذ لم تكن موازنته الموسيقية تزيد على بضعة آالف فقلت وا موازنة القسم العربي: -

أن اقول لك اني ال استمد قوة مشجعة من قولك لي أنكم باسمح لي يا مستر هارسن للسيد هارسن

مستعدون أن تخصصوا للقسم العربي الى حد المليون جنيه وانما علي ان ادرس الموازنة وأرى ما

فة وزيادة وتنمية وذلك ال يزيد على مئة ألف جنيه وأكون ممتنا لكم اذا لبيتم طلبي تحتاج اليه من اضا

..بهذا عندما أفرغ من دراسة الموازنة.
