(The Swiss newspaper, Gazette de Lausanne, quoted a high offi- cial of the French railroads as saying the French railway system is being steadily paralyzed by the Allied air raids and by saboteurs. (The newspaper also said Brit- ish planes frequently have landed in France to fly out youth eager to join the Allied lighting forces.) Americans Silent Officials of the United States 8th Air Force declined to com- ment, meantime, on editorials in the British Liberal weeklies, New Statesman and Weekly Tribune, criticising American daylight bombing of cities on the continent as causing "useless destruction and ghastly casualties." Casualties for night bombing have proved much smaller than anyone expected, the New States- man said. It asserted that in daylight bombings the missiles fell on crowded markets and streets in towns "not even in the battle area," and said "we cannot be- lieve this is a sane policy." Destroyer, Corvette and Tanker Sunk by Japs Washington, April 10 UP)—Re- newed Japanese aerial activity has sunk three more vessels and a small boat at Guadalcanal, bring- ing Allied shipping losses to 39 in the embattled Solomon Islands area. The Navy, announcing yester day the loss of a destroyer, a cor- vette, a tanker and a fuel boat, said the defenders of Guadalcanal made the attack of 50 bombers and 48 Zero fighters costly how- ever by shooting down 34 while losing only seven planes. In the entire area, the Japanese however have lost 64 ships and the Navy lists 10 more as probably sunk and 109 damaged. The latest outburst, heaviest bombardment of Guadalcanal in five months, apparently was aimed at a concentration of shipping supplying the American forces on the island. Loss of life and identity of the vessels were withheld by the Navy until the next of kin of casualties have been notified. The destroyer was presumed to be a United-States warship, the corvette Australian. 9 Business Property for Sale LICENSED HOTEL—Fully equipped In Rome. Large garage attached. Aged owner must sell. Utica, April 10—The New York State Economic Council, with headquarters in Utica, under direction of Merwin K. Hart as president, has changed its name to the National Economic Council, Inc., because of a broader scope of operations.

Action was taken at a members' meeting this week. Papers were filed at Albany for the new corporation. Other officers are Archibald Ewing Stevenson, New York, vice-president; Thomas M. Peters, New York, secretary; Dean Clark, New York, treasurer; Miss A. Margaret Schmid, Utica, field secretary.

(CONTINUED FROM PAGE ONE) supply lines ranged from Le Havre to Dieppe. The Air Ministry News Service said the Germans were arming supply trains, and the attacking fighter planes exchanged fire with defending machine-gunners.

(The Swiss newspaper, Gazette de Lausanne, quoted a high official of the French railroads as saying the French railway system is being steadily paralyzed by the Allied air raids and by saboteurs.

(The newspaper also said British planes frequently have landed in France to fly out youth eager to join the Allied lighting forces.)

Americans Silent Officials of the United States

8th Air Force declined to comment, meantime, on editorials in the British Liberal weeklies, New Statesman and Weekly Tribune, criticising American daylight bombing of cities on the continent as causing "useless destruction and ghastly casualties."

Casualties for night bombing have proved much smaller than anyone expected, the New Statesman said.

It asserted that in daylight bombings the missiles fell on crowded markets and streets in towns "not even in the battle area," and said "we cannot believe this is a sane policy."

Goebbels Visits Essen The Berlin radio broadcast a

DNB report that the German propaganda chief, Dr. Paul Joseph Goebbels, visited Essen yesterday in company with other military and political leaders.

Essen was the target for a 900-ton raid a week ago and previously had been bombed heavily. DNB said that the leaders conferred on "defense and assistance matters to counteract the British-American c\iv fitteiclcs "

"Dr. Goebbels," said DNB, was par t icular ly impressed by tthe staunch spirit of the Essen population, particularly those most affected."

Destroyer, Corvette and Tanker Sunk by Japs

Washington, April 10 UP)—Renewed Japanese aerial activity has sunk three more vessels and a small boat at Guadalcanal, bringing Allied shipping losses to 39 in the embattled Solomon Islands area.

The Navy, announcing yester day the loss of a destroyer, a corvette, a tanker and a fuel boat, said the defenders of Guadalcanal made the attack of 50 bombers and 48 Zero fighters costly however by shooting down 34 while losing only seven planes.
