Daily Evangelization
Ask God for guidance
when making difficult decisions
St. Charles Borromeo Church October 6, 2019
Please take a baby bottle home with you today. Fill it with your loose change and return it to St Charles at the end of the month. Our Pro-life Ministry and our Knights of Columbus Council are sponsoring this October Baby Bottle Collection to assist the work of WOMANKIND as they provide
prenatal care for women. During October we emphasize pro-life issues; we last sponsored the Baby Bottle Collection in 2015.
Every year, for two weekends in October, the Bishop’s Office asks all parishes in the Diocese to count the number of people who attend Mass. This is called “the October Count.” The figures are used to assess parish vitality, check demo graphic trends, and help with the assignment of clergy. So on this weekend, October 5-6 and again on October 12-13, our ushers are asked to take that count—at homily time—and then record the total on the Mass Attendance Form in the priests’ sacristy. Thanks for your patience! This weekend we will celebrate the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick at all our Masses. Some will remember when this was called “extreme unction” or “the last rites.” In recent years, our understanding of the Sacrament has deep-ened and we see it now in a wider context—not as “the last step” before death, but also as the uniting of our current suffer-ings with those of the Lord. Those dealing with chronic illness, long-term pain, or serious ailments are invited to seek the con-solation of this sacrament. The forehead and the palms of the hands are anointed with “oleum infirmorum”--the oil of the sick--after the prayers of healing are recited. Those at this Sunday morning’s 8:00 and 10:00am Mass are invited to the Lower Parish Hall, after Mass, for donuts, coffee, juice, and good company. With our “new” Mass schedule (now more than two years old) we have a whole hour between Masses—so it’s no longer necessary to rush for our cars and “clear the parking lot” for the next Mass. Thank you, St Charles Hospitality Ministry, for your monthly sponsoring of Donut Sunday. Long-time parishioner Jerry Walsh is a retired CPA. Jerry serves on our Parish Finance Council and he chairs the Parish Budget Committee. Jerry is available to offer advice on taxes, retirement planning, cash flow, and other financial matters. He will make himself available on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, from 6:00pm till 8:00pm, beginning this week. Jerry will meet you here at St Charles; to schedule a time convenient for you, call the Parish Office at 440-884-3030. All services are confidential; Jerry’s advice is free and he is not “selling” anything. St Charles Parish Council will hold their monthly meeting this Thursday, October 10, at 7:45 pm in the St Pope John XXIII Meeting Room (second floor) of the Parish Activities Center. Please note the change in meeting rooms! Come prepared with some thoughts on our Parish Mission Statement. Northeast Ohio is blessed to have a Catholic radio station: THE ROCK—1260AM. It is a listener-supported station serving Catholics and non-Catholics. Now in its fourth year, THE ROCK 1260-AM has been instrumental in evangelizing our Catholic faith with solid, quality programming. Visit www.am1260therock.com to learn more or call 216-227-1260.

BABY BOTTLE FUNDRAISER
A Baby Bottle Fundraiser will be sponsored by St. Charles Pro-Life Ministry in October to benefit Womankind. Since 1975 Womankind has provided free prenatal care and a full range of support services to pregnant women and families in need.
This weekend, October 5th & 6th, baby bottles will be distributed after all masses. Please take as many as you would like and fill with your extra change. Bills
and checks payable to Womankind would be much appreciated as well! Please return bottles to an usher at a weekend mass or drop off in the Parish Office by October 31st. Thank you!!

CATHOLIC CEMETERIES ASSOCIATION
ANNUAL WALK TO REMEMBER
OCT 6th . 1:00 PM During October, the month of the Most Holy Rosary, Catholic Cemeteries Association invites families to participate in a half-mile walking Rosary in honor of departed loved ones at all cemeteries. We walk, we pray, we sing, and we remember. For those who cannot walk, or in case of rain, the Rosary will be prayed in the mausoleum or in the cemetery office. At the end of the Rosary, there is a brief candle lighting ceremony in remembrance of our dearly departed. This is a great communal prayer opportunity for families and for Rosary Prayer organizations. For more information at individual cemeteries and to register online go to — https://conta.cc/2XBXy8K or with a registration flyer that can be found in each cemetery office.
