Quick News December 15, 2014 Superintendent’s Message John P. Kronour, Ph.D. On Wednesday, December 17 th , Tipp City Exempted Village Schools partners with the city of Tipp City and the Tipp City Chamber of Commerce to host the Senior Citizens Holiday Breakfast. We look forward to welcoming residents to this much beloved tradition and sharing some holiday cheer. The group will enjoy a hot breakfast, friendship, entertainment by our students and a few surprises. This is a great opportunity to highlight the talents of our youth and showcase the tradition of excellence that is synonymous with our schools and community. It also gives us the chance to say thank you and acknowledge our senior citizens for their support. They are volunteers, mentors, student advocates and spirited cheerleaders. Their commitment to our schools and community is an integral part of our continued success. Superintendentrsquos Message John P Kronour PhD

On Wednesday December 17th Tipp City Exempted Village Schools partners with

the city of Tipp City and the Tipp City Chamber of Commerce to host the Senior

Citizens Holiday Breakfast We look forward to welcoming residents to this much

beloved tradition and sharing some holiday cheer The group will enjoy a hot

breakfast friendship entertainment by our students and a few surprises This is a

great opportunity to highlight the talents of our youth and showcase the tradition of

excellence that is synonymous with our schools and community It also gives us the

chance to say thank you and acknowledge our senior citizens for their support They

are volunteers mentors student advocates and spirited cheerleaders Their

commitment to our schools and community is an integral part of our continued success

Close to 300 students in grades 6 to 12 gave outstanding performances at this yearrsquos Holiday Band Concerts

Historical Adventure

The Advanced Placement United States History classes at Tippecanoe High School made an exciting trip to a number of Civil War Battlefields Twenty three students visited sites including Harpers Ferry (above right photo) Antietam and Gettysburg Despite cold weather the group spent many hours outside hiking and exploring the battlefields of the east The students are currently reading the novel The Killer Angels as part of the curriculum and were able to ask a number of questions about the novel as they toured Gettysburg Students also learned about two famous documents from the time period The Emancipation Proclamation and The Gettysburg Address This marked the 15th year for this adventure

Broadwayrsquos Super Citizens of the Month These Broadway Elementary students are proud to be recognized as this monthrsquos Super Citizens The second and third graders were selected by their teachers for being generous to others

The Infernohellip It is back The Tippecanoe High School literary magazine has been reborn as The Inferno Teachers Aimee Noel and Erin Hill have assembled a creative enthusiastic student-editorial team They have really run with the idea of giving the literary community more of a spotlight Student writers are being encouraged to submit to the magazine in various genres This video is a great example of the studentsrsquo creativity

Junior Paper Oral Presentation Winners

Congratulations to the 2014 JPOP winners As honored by a vote of their peers these junior students delivered

the most informative and engaging Junior Paper Oral Presentations (JPOPs) in Ms Erin Hillrsquos American

literature class during the first week of December

Students Need a Thumbs Up for Breast Cancer Awareness

Students in Mrs Pam Staubrsquos media class are finalists in a Breast Cancer Awareness video contest Two creative works from Tippecanoe High School are among the 15 vying for the top spot The winner is determined by a ldquothumbs uprdquo vote on YouTube ldquoThe Race to Early Detectionrdquo was produced by Tucker Finders Seth Monnin and Richie Robbins rdquo Jump Rope for Breast Cancer Awarenessrdquo was produced by Jeanette Baldwin and David Helms Support these students and help them win scholarship money by clicking on this site and then the title

LT Ballrsquos Entrepreneurs

Our newest 5th grade entrepreneurs recently completed their unit on Economics As part of their application of concepts the students in Mrs Christa Oenrsquos and Mrs Karen Weberrsquos Social Studies classes created a project plan that included the costs associated with the design production and selling of Christmas ornaments The students also created marketing posters in computer class After only three days of selling the students made a profit of $30750 and are donating this money to the Tipp City Needy Basket

Science Gallery

Fifth graders at LT Ball Intermediate School completed independent science projects and presented them to the

public Their science teachers are extremely proud of the students and their ingenuity Some of the projects will

advance to the local science fair at Tippecanoe High School in February where they will compete against students

from Miami County

Compliments for Students from FOR Members of the Tippecanoe Middle Schoolrsquos FOR Club are

encouraging their classmates to show a little kindness in the form of

compliments Friends of Rachel organized the project as part of the

grouprsquos mission to create a chain reaction of compassion in their

school Students fill out the compliment cards to ANYONE in

the school and they get delivered to the studentrsquos locker This

group was formed after the district-wide assemblies called Rachelrsquos

Challenge a program based on the writings of a teenager killed in the

Columbine tragedy Rachel Joy Scott believed that ldquoif one person

can go out of their way to show compassion then it will start a chain

reaction of kindness People will never know how far a little

kindness can gordquo

Widespread Generosity

Staff at Nevin Coppock and Broadway Elementary Schools generously selected purchased and wrapped presents for the Family Abuse Shelter of Miami County Response to this project was

terrific No doubt this gesture will bring some joy to the people being served by this agency Thank you to all who contributed

Project Believe

The Tippecanoe Middle School Student Council

collected donations for Project Believe a local

organization that enriches the lives of youth who

are in residential treatment centers Students

collected winter hats handmade scarves gloves

stuffed animals puzzles board games underwear

socks pajamas fleece blankets crayons journals

calendars playing cards Lego sets Matchbox cars

art supplies and coloringactivity books The

volunteers with this nonprofit organization say

they are absolutely overwhelmed with the generosity

of groups such as this

The Little Things -- The Tippecanoe High School ASTRA Club a service organization has

almost met its holiday challenge to help the homeless The club asked classmates to donate 150

tubes of toothpaste 250 toothbrushes 100 soaps (liquid or bars) 100 bottles of shampoo and

conditioner 50 boxes of trash bags 50 boxes or bottles of laundry detergent 100 pairs of new

or gently used shoes $200 in cash to purchase pillows and blankets They still need 36 boxes of

trash bags 25 containers of laundry detergent and 16 bottles of conditioner

2nd Grade Christmas Show ldquoWBES Christmas Revuerdquo Thursday December 18th

We are having an old fashioned radio themed Christmas Holiday Revue for our 2nd

Grade Christmas Show this year Everyone is welcome to join us as we get our toes tapping to some heartwarming Christmas hits We have some fabulous student radio announcers hosting this special event You wonrsquot want to miss our show Some of our students will be dressing in time period clothes and our audience guests are welcome to do the same if yoursquod like 1940rsquos-1950rsquos style in honor of our live radio performance at Broadway Elementary School

Exciting Opportunity for Junior Girls Tippecanoe High School junior girls looking for a wonderful summer opportunity are

encouraged to apply to the American Legion Buckeye Girls State Student delegates get

hands-on learning experiences on the mechanics of local and state government This one

week program is an excellent opportunity to learn about duties privileges rights and

responsibilities of good citizenship and patriotism Applications are available in the

high school guidance office and due back before January 15 2015

Exciting Opportunity for Junior Boys Tippecanoe High School junior boys are invited to apply to the American Legion

Buckeye Boys State This is a hands-on workshop in the principles and organization of

Ohio government Young men learn about state government by operating the agencies

and levels of a mythical state government Participants gain knowledge to benefit them

in Problems of Democracy Political Science and AP Government Classes Applications

are available in the high school guidance office and due back before January 15 2015

Staff vs Students

Tippecanoe Middle School staff and students met on the court for a spirited and somewhat competitive game of

basketball A 3-on-3 Tournament was conducted during lunch periods to help raise money for Power of the Pen

These student winners earned a shot to compete against the teachers It was a fun way to release some energy and

build school spirit Principal Greg Southers did a great job officiating Bragging rights go to the students

Parents Wrap Up Teacher Appreciation

Santarsquos elves arrived at LT Ball Intermediate School to wrap the gifts teachers purchased for their

loved ones The parent group LTPA chose this unique activity to express their appreciation for

their childrenrsquos teachers and the awesome job they do educating them

LT Ballrsquos Entrepreneurs

Our newest 5th grade entrepreneurs recently completed their unit on Economics As part of their application of concepts the students in Mrs Christa Oenrsquos and Mrs Karen Weberrsquos Social Studies classes created a project plan that included the costs associated with the design production and selling of Christmas ornaments The students also created marketing posters in computer class After only three days of selling the students made a profit of $30750 and are donating this money to the Tipp City Needy Basket

Fifth graders at LT Ball Intermediate School completed independent science projects and presented them to the

public Their science teachers are extremely proud of the students and their ingenuity Some of the projects will

advance to the local science fair at Tippecanoe High School in February where they will compete against students

from Miami County

Compliments for Students from FOR Members of the Tippecanoe Middle Schoolrsquos FOR Club are

encouraging their classmates to show a little kindness in the form of

compliments Friends of Rachel organized the project as part of the

grouprsquos mission to create a chain reaction of compassion in their

school Students fill out the compliment cards to ANYONE in

the school and they get delivered to the studentrsquos locker This

group was formed after the district-wide assemblies called Rachelrsquos

Challenge a program based on the writings of a teenager killed in the

Columbine tragedy Rachel Joy Scott believed that ldquoif one person

can go out of their way to show compassion then it will start a chain

reaction of kindness People will never know how far a little

kindness can gordquo

Staff at Nevin Coppock and Broadway Elementary Schools generously selected purchased and wrapped presents for the Family Abuse Shelter of Miami County Response to this project was

volunteers with this nonprofit organization say

they are absolutely overwhelmed with the generosity

The Little Things -- The Tippecanoe High School ASTRA Club a service organization has

almost met its holiday challenge to help the homeless The club asked classmates to donate 150

tubes of toothpaste 250 toothbrushes 100 soaps (liquid or bars) 100 bottles of shampoo and

conditioner 50 boxes of trash bags 50 boxes or bottles of laundry detergent 100 pairs of new

or gently used shoes $200 in cash to purchase pillows and blankets They still need 36 boxes of

trash bags 25 containers of laundry detergent and 16 bottles of conditioner

Buckeye Boys State This is a hands-on workshop in the principles and organization of

Ohio government Young men learn about state government by operating the agencies

and levels of a mythical state government Participants gain knowledge to benefit them

in Problems of Democracy Political Science and AP Government Classes Applications

are available in the high school guidance office and due back before January 15 2015

Tippecanoe Middle School staff and students met on the court for a spirited and somewhat competitive game of

basketball A 3-on-3 Tournament was conducted during lunch periods to help raise money for Power of the Pen

These student winners earned a shot to compete against the teachers It was a fun way to release some energy and

build school spirit Principal Greg Southers did a great job officiating Bragging rights go to the students

Sunday January 25th in the Tippecanoe High School Gym

4 years old to 1st grade 100pm ndash 230pm

Perform at JV Halftime

2nd

grade to 6th

grade 300pm ndash 430pm

Perform at Varsity Halftime

The cheerleaders will teach a cheer and a dance that the participants will perform

with them at halftime of the basketball games on Friday January 30th vs Stebbins

The first 100 participants signed up will receive pom poms and a bag All participants
