CENTERVILLE MESSENGER (096380) Free Upon Request-Published Weekly by Centerville Church of Christ, 138 N. Central Ave., Centerville, TN 37033-1427 September 14, 2016 Volume XXXVI - Number 36 Centerville Church of Christ Sunday 9am / 6pm Wednesday 7pm “I Hope You Know” The greatest proof of Jesus’ life and the evidence of His existence is found in the power of prophecy. Not only was His life promised to come into the world, but the details, from His birth, to His burden as a king, to His bones being unbroken when He died, His life was more than promised it was precisely made known to the world. John does not fail to include this truth, “Jesus, knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the Scriptures might be fulfilled” (John 19:36-37). When we read the words and imagine His voice crying out, “It is finished” (John 19:30) we’re hearing more than a mere statement of relief; it’s a resounding call that the entirety of heaven’s plan to save mankind from their sins, had been completed, save the resurrection of our Lord from the grave, and for that the certainty was equal to the death just witnessed. While the scriptures were not silent about the identity of our Lord, His opposition was anything but silent when it came time for them to unfold their plan to end His life. There was more corruption perpetrated toward Jesus in His last hours, than we can truly come to realize. While the world around us cries and clamors today demanding for justice and equality, the only One who can truly deliver such to the world, received none when He needed it the most. Under the Jewish system of law of the 1st Century, no less than a dozen laws were broken in order to find Jesus guilty of crimes He did not commit. Among the laws, the Sanhedrin needed unanimous agreement in order to obtain a conviction. Of their council, not all agree to convict Jesus and sentence Him to death. Two were believers and stated as much, Nicodemus and Joseph of Arimathea (John 19:38-39). One came in the dark of night (John 3:1-5), the other was delayed in coming (Mark 15:43), both came to the decision that this was more than a good teacher, He was sent from God. They also both came at the time of His death (John 19:38-39). Within the passage of John 19 you find the potential of people. Both, perhaps when they realized they had nothing more to lose than what was lost by the One they had chosen to follow, came forward and sought to speak for Jesus when it was feared no one else would. The work of Nicodemus and Joseph, may seem to be a subtle act, but what they did, prior to our Lord’s resurrection is really quite remarkable. Joseph was not as ready as Nicodemus when it came to speaking up for Jesus, but finally did, knowing there was nothing else to lose. Nicodemus, who first came in darkness, later would come in defense, when the rulers wanted to illegally seize Him. It would be Nicodemus who said, “Does our law judge a man before it hears him and knows what he is doing” (John 7:51). It would be in death that Joseph and Nicodemus would both have their biggest impact for the Lord. Were it not for Nicodemus and Joseph of Arimathea, our Lord Jesus would have simply been taken down from the cross and buried in a mass grave, a final resting place reserved for common criminals. Yet these two believers approached Pilate, and spoke not just for the body of Jesus, but of their belief in Jesus. I hope you know, it’s the faith of men like Nicodemus and Joseph that inspire us still today to speak through our fear and name the faith we have for our Father’s Son, so the world will know to turn and see Jesus!

“I Hope You Know”

The greatest proof of Jesus’ life and the evidence of His existence is found in the power of prophecy. Not only was His life promised to come into the world, but the details, from His birth, to His burden as a king, to His bones being unbroken when He died, His life was more than promised it was precisely made known to the world. WE KICKED OFF THE JUNIOR HIGH FIRESIDES in grand fashion! 30 Junior High enjoyed a great night in the Lighthouse hosted by the Elkins, Jacobs, and Hudgins on Sunday night. ONE OF MY FAVORITE POEMS IS, “TOUCH OF THE MASTERS HANDS.” As the reading draws a picture of an auction of a violin and the difference that is made by itself and then in the hands of the master musician. It correlates so well to our lives and the validity God adds to our lives when we let him take over. Often times we feel disconnected, empty, unwanted, and unusable. So often we feel these ways because we search for sustenance in things that will never fill the void that God is intended to fill in our lives. Search wherever you like, try whatever you might, God is the One, the only One, that can fill that void. Never place your value, your true worth, on the opinion of others, the

latest fad or phase or what society says is the way to be. Rather, daily reexamine your life based upon the criteria that God set forth through His Son Jesus Christ. There is no other test, standard or qualification that will measure up against the One who lived a perfect life and sacrificed it for you and me. Begin today to start a new way of evaluation of your worth. Start today to know each step you take is progressing toward a heavenly goal as you… follow His path, -Craig

Financial abuse can take many forms, from illegal debits, to third-party scams and even unauthorized withdrawals by an approved caregiver. Many criminals are targeting those that are 65 years and over. At present the Senior Citizens in America are losing almost $2.9 billion annually to fraud enacted upon them, and this amount is expected only to grow. The American Bankers Association has created four education programs to assist in empowering Americans and communities with the facts and knowledge of how to protect themselves against fraud. Shela Chessor will be presenting the following programs for anyone who would like to attend. Drinks and Refreshments will be provided, courtesy of First Farmers and Merchants Bank.
