Taking center stage at this year’s celebration was the very important issue of seafarers’ mental health and wellness, illustrated in the event’s campaign hashtags #SeafarersWellbeing and #GoodDayAtSea. To help shed a positive light on this topic, a “Seafarers’ Wellbeing Forum” was organized for PTC GMPs and cadets of the Mapua-PTC College of Maritime Education and Training (CMET). At the forum, Health Metrics Psychiatrist Dr. Felipe Naval Escano, M.D., a specialist on counselling, motivational therapy and stress assessment, gave attendees a better understanding of mental health and provided them with strategies on how to handle stress and other issues affecting their psychological condition whether they are at sea or at home. He was followed by Mr. Enrico Victor Nisperos, an instructor from the Philippine Center for Advanced Maritime Simulation and Training (PHILCAMSAT), who explained how one’s mental health can affect a seafarer’s performance onboard, and ultimately impact the efficiency of the whole vessel and the safety of all its passengers. A host of other fun activities and surprises at First Maritime Place were enjoyed by the GMPs on their special day including a photo booth, movie screening with popcorn, massage therapy, a sorbetes (ice cream) treat and a lunchtime music jam where exciting prizes were raffled off to lucky attendees. Today, allow me to salute all Filipino global maritime professionals,” Ambassador Salinas said during his speech. “Our global maritime professionals enable the safe and efficient movement of ships from port to port. The amount of cargo transmitted on these ships accounts for over 90 percent of world trade by volume. PHILCAMSAT Conducts Steam Turbine Training for Chinese Engineers The Philippine Center for Advanced Maritime Simulation and Training (PHILCAMSAT) has been chosen to conduct a pioneering training program for the engine officers of a leading Chinese LNG company. The 10-day, customized Steam Turbine Training Program for Officers was delivered last June 11 to 22 at PHILCAMSAT’s simulation center in Makati. As the country’s premier center for maritime capability excellence, PHILCAMSAT is among the very select number of training institutions in the region with the competence and expertise to offer the program. Using the Center’s Kongsberg Steam Propulsion Simulator, the participating Chinese engineers and cadets were trained on boiler operations, feedwater and steam systems processes, and steam propulsion plant operations. The program follows the successful delivery of the Steam Turbine for Ratings training course previously conducted for the same LNG company. PTC Ecobrick Warriors Recognized The PTC Group held an awarding ceremony for the winners of the “Bottle It Up Contest,” an organization-wide competition under the company’s ecobrick project “Plastic-Free Starts with Me” last June 22 at First Maritime Place (FMP) in Makati.

During the two-month contest period, PTC Ecobrick Warriors were able to complete a total of 441 ecobricks amounting to 267.75 kgs. of plastic waste that were kept out of the oceans and repurposed into stools that were installed at the Bucal II Elementary School in Maragondon, Cavite during PTC’s annual participation at the Brigada Eskwela school clean-up activity. Recognized at the awarding were the FMP 9th and 8th floor offices and ACM Holdings who won 1st, 2nd and 3rd place, respectively. Prior to the awarding, PTC Business Development Manager Marcus Leslie Suntay showcased how ecobricks and single-use plastics can also be

used as components of eco-friendly construction blocks.

“Through this campaign, we are able to encourage not just our employees, but the communities around us to reduce their consumption of single-use plastics and slowly start planting the seeds for a better tomorrow,” said Ms. Carla S. Limcaoco, PTC-CSJ President, during the ceremony. “It is so inspiring to see the energy of PTC Group employees in constructing their ecobricks and helping out at the Brigada Eskwela activity to make the school a much nicer place for the students and to show them how these plastic bottles can be functional and useful. I hope that that energy stays as we remain committed to this cause.” With the success of the initial phase of the project, PTC CEO Gerardo Borromeo challenged employees to work even harder to surpass what they have accomplished so far. “Congratulations to everyone who participated in this project and thank you very much for your efforts in making this initiative a success,” he said as he spoke to the winners. “What you have been able to do through this project was to move the world in many ways and but there is still opportunity to do more. Let’s see how much farther we can get by enjoining the support of more groups and other communities to truly make waves of change, one brick at a time.”

Project Balanghay Expands Maritime SHS Program to Quezon CityThe PTC Group’s training arm, the Philippine Center for Advanced Maritime Simulation and Training (PHILCAMSAT), signed an agreement with Magna Anima Teachers College to strengthen the partnership on the Maritime Senior High School Track implementation or Project Balanghay at the Ismael Mathay Sr. High School in Quezon City. The agreement was signed by Ambassador Carlos C. Salinas, PTC Founder, along with Father Carmelo Caluag, Magna Anima Teachers College Director. Witnessing the signing were Mr. Philbright Ang, PHILCAMSAT Executive Director; Ms. Elizabeth Lorenzo, Magna Anima Teachers College Coordinator for Senior High School; Mr. Philip Austria, Department of Education Senior Education Program Specialist; Mrs. Claudiosa Quesada, Ismael Mathay Senior High School Coordinator and PTC Executives.

With a curriculum developed by PTC and PHILCAMSAT in compliance with international standards in maritime education and training, the Maritime SHS Program aims to educate and train senior high school students by providing them with technical skills that would equip them to seek employment on board upon completion of their secondary education. Initially pilot- tested by PTC, ANGKLA and the DepEd among three schools in Metro Manila, Visayas and Mindanao, the Program is now being offered in the technical-vocational-livelihood (TVL) track and pre-baccalaureate track in more than 60 schools nationwide.

PHILCAMSAT Renews Training Partnership with the Philippine Coast GuardThe Philippine Center for Advanced Maritime Simulation and Training (PHILCAMSAT), the official training arm of PTC, has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) renewing its training partnership with the agency.

The agreement was signed by Admiral Elson E. Hermogino, Commandant of the PCG, and Mr. Gerardo A. Borromeo, PTC CEO, at the Philippine Coast Guard National Headquarters last June 28, 2018. Witnessing the signing were Ambassador Carlos C. Salinas, PTC Founder and IMO Maritime Ambassador, and Mr. Philbright Ang, PHILCAMSAT Executive Director. PHILCAMSAT has been a partner of the PCG by providing world-class and up-to-date training for the country’s guardians of the sea. The renewal of the partnership is expected to strengthen the commitment of both parties to achieving their shared vision for efficient and effective quality maritime education and training responsive to the demands of changing times.

PHILCAMSAT Receives Marshall Islands AccreditationThe Philippine Center for Advanced Maritime Simulation and Training (PHILCAMSAT) is proud to announce that all of their STCW courses are now accredited by the Republic of the Marshall Islands.

The Republic of the Marshall Islands is the second largest registry in the world with a total fleet of 223,262,177 DWT. It is the Greek shipping industry’s leading flag with 791 ships totaling 62,190,301 DWT (over 18.9 percent of total DWT of the Greek owned fleet) in its registry. Additionally, the Registry also holds a United States Coast Guard Qualship 21 with its ships making thousands of U.S. port calls annually. This development opens a wide range of career opportunities to PHILCAMSAT graduates who wish to work onboard the thousands of ships sailing under the Marshall Islands flag. The Center’s STCW courses are also accredited by the MARINA and the prestigious Belgian Maritime Inspectorate (BMI).

LifeLinks Brings its Free German Language Training to Cebu LifeLinks International Resources, in partnership with Alfa Personnel Care GmbH, is pleased to announce that it is extending its free German language training program to nurses in the Visayas region who wish to pursue a career in Germany. CMET Posts 100% Passing Rate on MSAP PTC congratulates the B.S. Marine Engineering (BSMarE) students of the Malayan Colleges Laguna’s Mapua-PTC College of Maritime Education and Training (CMET) for posting an impressive 100% passing rate at the Maritime School Assessment Program (MSAP) examination conducted last February 23, 2018. The MSAP is a nationwide standard academic assessment test for regular second year students taking up maritime courses. The program is wholly supported by the International Mariners Management Association of Japan (IMMAJ) in Tokyo, Japan and is implemented by the Manila-based Philippine-Japan Manning Consultative Council, Inc. (PJMCCC). The assessment program is designed to provide maritime institutions with the necessary data to guide their respective academic improvement initiatives.

As part of the PTC Group’s continuing commitment to the development of Philippine maritime education and training, PTC’s Business Process Controls and Compliance Director Nelson Cueno and PHILCAMSAT Training Director C/E Alfredo Haboc served as resource speakers for the “Calibration Workshop for Monitoring Evaluators of MARINA and CHED (Part I)” organized by the Maritime Industry Authority last May 28 to 30, 2018 at the Bayview Park Hotel in Manila.

PTC’s Information Communication Technology has launched its new IT Help Desk system to provide employees of the PTC Group with a single point of connection to conveniently and efficiently log their IT-related service requests and incidents. Seaspan Holds Family DayIn support of the Day of the Seafarer’s thrust to promote seafarers’ wellbeing, Seaspan Ship Management Ltd. held a Family Day to provide their officers and crew with a fun and memorable day of relaxation with their families at the sprawling beaches of the Blue Coral Resort in Laiya, Batangas last June 25, 2018. And as a way of giving back, Seaspan volunteers spent the morning at the Laura Vicuna Foundation, a social welfare organization dedicated to helping youth in need of special protection, playing games, sharing meals and giving gifts to the Foundation’s children.

PTC Employees Learn About Data PrivacyAs part of the proactive stance of Philippine Transmarine Carriers, Inc. (PTC) in adopting and implementing the National Privacy Commission’s Data Privacy Act of 2012 (DPA), the company conducted a Data Privacy Awareness seminar throughout the months of May and June 2018. The seminar, conducted by DPA resource person Benedict De Borja, was designed to give employees an overview of the DPA and its impact on the company and the maritime industry. Employees were also made to understand their respective roles in ensuring the company’s compliance with the Act. As part of its compliance with the DPA, PTC, Inc. has recently published its Data Privacy Policy outlining the company’s commitment to secure the personal information of data subjects, including its seafarers, in the course of daily operations.

PTC Successfully Transitions to ISO 14001: 2015PTC Inc. has successfully transitioned to the 2015 version of the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System (EMS) following an audit by the DNV last May 21 to 22, 2018. As PTC adopts the 2015 edition of the standard, the system is expected to help the company more efficiently integrate its environmental protection efforts with its other business activities, decentralize and spread EMS responsibilities throughout the organization, create greater involvement of top management and give higher emphasis on environmental performance monitoring. Following the transition, a training seminar was given to employees to provide them with a thorough review of the company’s EMS Program and their respective roles in the implementation of the company’s EMS policy.

June 11A courtesy meeting with the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the Philippines, H.E. Marion Derckx in Makati City, to impart the IMO Maritime Ambassador Scheme and his responsibility to encourage the youth to start a maritime career and shed light on the significance of shipping to the world.

June 13An interview by the Maritime Journalists Association of the Philippines, headed by Ms. Carmela Huelar of the Manila Times, Ms. Lyn Bacani of Marino World and Ms. Susan Amoroso, in an effort to enlighten readers on the IMO Maritime Ambassador Scheme, as well as, the need to encourage the youth to pursue careers in the shipping industry.

June 14An agreement signing between the PTC Group’s training arm, the Philippine Center for Advanced Maritime Simulation and Training, and Magna Anima Teachers College at the First Maritime Place in Makati to strengthen the partnership on the Maritime Senior High School Track program or Project Balanghay at the Ismael Mathay Sr. High School in Quezon City.

June 20 A courtesy visit to Ambassador Daniel Pruce of the British Embassy to convey his role in the IMO Maritime Ambassador Scheme and to bring recognition to the importance of establishing a good maritime education foundation, seafaring globally and shipping as a whole.

June 25 The Day of the Seafarer Celebration hosted by the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) at the Forum 2 of the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City where Ambassador Salinas attended as the Guest of Honor. A host of activities were done throughout the day, to give praise to our seafarers or Global Maritime Professionals and their incomparable contribution to our lives, our nation and our world.

• Ambassador Salinas spoke at the opening ceremonies and facilitated the ribbon cutting for MARINA’s Job Fair, creating an avenue for young hopefuls and aspiring seafarers to be a step closer to their maritime dreams;• Congratulated the new batch of Marine Officers by taking part in the Oath-Taking ceremonies; and• Finally, gave accolade to the Global Maritime Professionals’ invaluable diligence at sea by partaking in the awarding ceremony for MARINA’s Outstanding vSeafarer Awards.
