Quality is critical for all higher education institutions. ISO 9001:2008 is an international Quality Management System standard that effectively improves products and service quality around the world in various sectors including higher education. Within the Botho University context, ISO 9001:2008 certification has meant promotion of quality awareness and quality assurance. Having undergone a rigorous screening of their processes and systems over the past 1 ½ years, Botho University received this prestigious certificate for its Quality Management System from the Botswana Bureau of Standards (BOBS). The BOS ISO 9001:2008 certification for Botho University has promoted high quality education for the students, instilled self confidence, passion and commitment, resulting in the attainment of the best results academically and in the world of work.

The 17 June 2013 marked a day in history when Botho University was awarded the BOS ISO 9001:2008 certification by the acting Managing Director of Botswana Bureau of Standards (BOBS), Mr Keeper Morgan. The ISO 9001:2008 certification is considered “hard to obtain and difficult to maintain”

by some of its recipients. Representatives from the Ministry of Education, Tertiary Education Council and Botswana Training Authority were present to witness this achievement. The certification was preceded by the launch of the educational institution transforming to a full fledged university.

These two milestones in the same year are testament to Botho University’s guarantee of excellence, leadership and innovation.

About BHEI

Botho Higher Education Institution has been established in Namibia by Botho University, Botswana as one of its international campuses. Hence, by virtue of this relationship, BHEI is affiliated to BU in terms of the agreement between the two entities.

BHEI operates from Ausspannplatz, Windhoek. In the initial stages BHEI offers four qualifications from BU, to be increased as the institution grows, and thereafter as the institution strengthens its presence in Namibia, it may offer own qualifications as per the needs of the country. The franchise programmes currently offered by BHEI are in the key fields of Business, Health, Accounting, Computing and Finance.

Botho University, Botswana which is BHEI’s main partner is a strong regional higher education provider headquartered in Botswana, with a growing campus in Lesotho. Botho University and its programmes are accredited by the respective regulatory authorities namely Botswana Qualifications Authority (BQA) in Botswana and Council on Higher Education (CHE) in Lesotho. Botho University offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in key disciplines that are critical to the development of SADC and other African economies. These include Accounting,

Business, Computing, Education, Engineering, Hospitality, Health and, Jewellery Management and Design. Student centric approaches to teaching and learning at Botho aim to unlock the potential of young African scholars so that they become equipped with entrepreneurial skills in key disciplines. Botho University academic history and success has been predicated on sound professional and administrative principles formulated, espoused and deeply held by its Board of Directors and Management; based on the well-established and clearly-articulated socio-economic needs and political agenda of the people of Africa.

Botho Higher Education Institution sees itself as an important player in the realization of Namibia’s Vision 2030, which is about improving the quality of life for all Namibians. The Board has established through extensive research that Namibia’s socio-economic development agenda and programmes are based on Vision 2030, which is striving for “A prosperous and industrialized Namibia, developed by her human resources, enjoying peace, harmony and political stability.” One of the objectives of the Vision 2030 is to “develop a diversified, competent and highly productive human resources and institutions, fully utilizing human potential, and achieving efficient and

effective delivery of customer-focused services which are competitive not only nationally, but also regionally and internationally.

Botho Higher Education Institution is duly accredited by National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) on 29th August 2018 with the registration number R 0016. BHEI is also gazetted by the Government of Namibia with the gazette number 6737. Through this, the institution re-emphasizes its strong adherence to compliance and regulatory requirements. Botho University, the parent organisation is fully compliant with the regulatory requirements of Botswana and Lesotho where the University has campuses. BHEI has also submitted its application with Namibia Qualifications Authority (NQA) and Namibian Training Authority (NTA) for accreditation.

Botho Higher Education Institution is intended to grow continuously towards its Vision and Mission as pronounced in Sustainable Growth Strategy 2018 to 2022, for the institution to be an integral player in building an economically diversified, fast growing, and prosperous Namibia built on integrity, excellence, inclusiveness and financial viability, and to produce well-rounded, entrepreneurial,

and globally-employable graduates with the attitude, knowledge, skills and competencies to create value and drive productivity increases needed to catalyse sustainable economic growth. It is intended that through programmes on offer Botho Higher Education Institution Namibia will leverage on these commitments to contribute to human resource development for the growth of the Namibian economy and grow as an institution.

Programme details: The purpose of this certification is to produce Computer Hardware Technicians for the IT industry. This certificate is designed for individuals interested in acquiring advanced technical skills and knowledge to maintain and repair personal computers and basics of networking.

Students gain skills in selecting parts, upgrading, building and configuring personal computers, installing and configuring operating systems and learn basics of network protocols and internetworking.

Certificate in Graphics Design and Animation The certificate in Graphics Design and Animation is a six months programme offered in one semester at Botho University.

The students enrolled in this programme will study graphics design fundamentals and Photoshop, and Animation Using Flash. They shall apply appropriate technological (Adobe Photoshop) platforms, trends and language to create visual exciting designs in creative industry. Also the training will involve creating web-based content (Adobe Flash) suitable for a range of applications, such as advertising, information, news, retail and others. The programme will expose the students to technical skills and creative thinking needed to develop and design graphics and animation for the multimedia industry. Community EngagementBHEI is committed to the improvement of people’s lives in various communities through skills development, entrepreneurship and community empowerment. This division encourages students to interact with communities in planning and implementing programmes and/or activities aimed at addressing the current demands and situations they are facing. The purpose of this partnership with communities is to improve the lives of people, empower communities to be self-reliant and to develop entrepreneurship skills. The division has an emphasis on instilling the values of volunteerism, Botho, spirit of giving and compassion.

Sports, Culture and RecreationThe unit seeks to contribute to academic performance and personal success by promoting welfare and wellness through talent enhancement and management. This unit has a variety of sporting and non-sporting clubs which seek to contribute to the development of each student in relation to the Botho Graduate Profile.
