Dear Parishioners, This will be my 9th Christmas here at St Bartholomew!I’m getting old and I hope you’re not getting old of me! Where does the time go?? In the past nine years we have seen many positive changes here in our parish. As you can see our mass attendance has increased from 1800 people to over 5000 people now! Our Catholic Academy continues to grow and our faith formation program has grown from 260 children (eight years ago) to almost 1000 today. We now have mass in Chinese every Tuesday evenings and Sunday afternoons! We also have a monthly mass in Filipino, Bengali/Burmese and Indonesian. And of course, our English and Spanish masses remain as strong as ever. We now celebrate 13 masses each weekend. This has truly been a great blessing for us. We are still paying back our 3.3 million dollar loan to fix the church. I’m happy to say that in just a little more than a year—we currently owe 1.5 million dollars on that loan. Also, thanks to your generosity we have a new sound system for the church at a cost of $67,000. Sometime in the Spring we will begin necessary work on our school building (new roof, windows, brick work and parapet walls) Unfortunately this will be close to 1.2 million dollars in repairs. Our school building is so important to us. We rent one floor to the City for a Pre-K program and use the other two floors as a gym for ourselves. Here we educate more than 1000 children every week. This Christmas I come to you asking for a special gift please contribute generously to your parish. All monies collected for this Christmas Gift will go directly to reduce our loan and improve our buildings. I am asking to consider a $150 gift. Some may be able to give more—others can only do less. What’s most important is that everyone contributes something! I am happy to say that every year we have broken records in your Christmas gift to the parish and this year I hope we can do it again. As you know our raffle was a huge success...please help to make is collection as success as well. I am enclosing the envelope for the second collection on December 21/22 with this letter. Please consider now what you can give. I am truly grateful for any sacrifice. If you will not be at Church the weekend of December 21/22 please mail it or drop it off at the parish office. I look forward to celebrating the Midnight Mass at our Church and hope to see you there! On Christmas Eve (TUESDAY EVENING) we will also have mass at 5 p.m. (English) 7:30p.m.(Spanish) & 9p.m. (Chinese). Christmas Day (WEDNESDAY) at 10 a.m. AND 11:30 a.m. (Chapel) in English as well as 10 a.m. (Chapel) and 11:30 a.m. in Spanish and 1:30p.m. Chinese. Blessed Christmas to you and your family! ¡Esta será mi novena Navidad aquí en San Bartolomé! Me estoy haciendo viejo, ¡y espero que no te estés haciendo viejo! ¿¿A dónde va el tiempo?? En los últimos nueve años, hemos visto muchos cambios positivos aquí en nuestra parroquia. Como puede ver, nuestra asistencia masiva ha aumentado de 1800 personas a más de 5000 personas ahora. Nuestra Academia Católica continúa creciendo y nuestro programa de formación en la fe ha crecido de 260 niños (hace ocho años) a casi 1000 hoy. ¡Ahora tenemos misa en chino todos los martes por la noche y domingos por la tarde! También tenemos una misa mensual en filipino, bengalí / birmano e indonesio. Y, por supuesto, nuestras misas en inglés y español siguen siendo tan fuertes como siempre. Ahora celebramos 13 misas cada fin de semana. Esto realmente ha sido una gran bendición para nosotros.
Todavía estamos pagando nuestro préstamo de 3.3 millones de dólares para arreglar la iglesia. Me alegra decir que en poco más de un año, actualmente debemos 1,5 millones de dólares en ese préstamo. Every year our church and chapel look so beautiful – inside and outside! This is all thanks to your efforts. Please contribute in the second collection on Dec 14/15. Special envelopes are available at the entrance of the churches.

HELP FOR CHRISTMAS! Any registered parishioner who needs some extra help for Christmas should contact the
rectory with your information. Like every year, the parish is ready to assist. In order for us to properly prepare we ask that you contact the
rectory no later than December 20.

WEEK DAY MASSES DURING ADVENT
Beginning Monday, December 2 our weekday masses (9 am English and 7:30 pm Spanish) will be celebrated in the main church. The church will be open Monday through Saturday from 8 am until the final mass ends at 7:30 pm. We see this as a means of welcoming and evangelizing. Perhaps more people will enter our church for prayer and reflection – since Whitney Avenue gets more people passing by than Ithaca St. During this holy season of Advent all parishioners are encouraged to make a daily prayerful visit to our main church. The chapel on Ithaca St will only be open on Sundays during this time.

A partir del lunes 2 de diciembre, nuestras misas de lunes a viernes (9 am en ingle s y 7:30 pm en espan ol) se celebrara n en la iglesia principal. Our parish will welcome Bishop Raymond Chapetto for mass on Wednesday, December 18th at 7:30 pm. Our Filipino and Spanish communities will gather as one as we continue our novena masses. Following the mass, we will offer light refreshments in the school gym. All are welcome to attend this special mass with the Bishop!

VISITING THE SICK The priests of the parish will visit the sick in their homes on Tuesdays and Wednesdays beginning this month. Just call the office to make an appointment for an English or Spanish or Bengali speaking priest. The priest will offer the anointing of the sick, opportunity for confession and holy communion. Of course in emergencies the priests are available at any time.
VISITAS A LOS ENFERMOS Los sacerdotes de la parroquia visitarán a los enfer-mos en sus hogares los martes y miércoles a partir de este mes. Simplemente llame a la oficina para hacer una cita con un sacerdote que hable inglés, español o bengalí. TAGALOG MASS On the 3rd Sunday of every month mass Is celebrated in
Tagalog for the Filipino community at 5 p.m. In the chapel. The next mass will be celebrated DECEMBER 15 AT 5PM
INDONESIAN MASS On the 4th Sunday of every month mass is
celebrated in Indonesian at 3 p.m. in the chapel Following the mass there’s always a reception in Heafey Hall. The next mass will be celebrated
DECEMBER 22 AT 3 PM.

EVERY SUNDAY CHINESE MASS Mass will be celebrated in Chinese every Sunday at 1:30 pm in the chapel and every Tuesday at 6:30 pm in the chapel. Our Catholic Chinese family is growing at St Bart’s and this is a great blessing for us. Fr Peter Ma has been working closely with this community and we thank him for his efforts and hard work.
Our parish continues to grow- many languages yet one faith- brothers and sisters in the Lord.
NEED A LETTER FROM
YOUR CHURCH? In order to give letters of recommendation,
letters attesting to character, sponsor certificates, and other documents that may
have legal or religious purposes, it is required that persons requesting those
documents be registered and be active members of Saint Bartholomew Parish
at least three months prior to your request. We can not provide any of these documents to people not
registered in the parish.
SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION There are two times every Saturday for
confessions in the main church: 4 pm and 6:30 pm. Also Thursday at 6:30pm in the
Chapel. We now have two priests assigned during these times to make it convenient and
less time to wait. Please do your part…. come as close as possible to these confession times. Take advantage of this wonderful opportunity
of God’s mercy and love.

DE SU IGLESIA? Para poder otorgar cartas de
recomendación, de buen carácter moral, como para ser padrinos de algún sacramento
y documentos para propósitos legales o religiosos, se requiere que quienes necesitan
estos documentos, estén inscritos y sean miembros activos de la Parroquia de San Bartolomé por lo menos tres meses antes
de su solicitud. No podemos entregar ninguna certificación a las personas que
no cumplan con estos requisitos.
SACRAMENTO DE RECONCILIACIÓN Los sábados las confesiones en la
iglesia principal son a las 4 pm y 6:30 p.m., también los jueves a las 6:30 pm en la capilla.

MASS BOOK 2020 The mass book for 2020 is now open!
Masses are offered for those living or deceased. The offering for each mass is $15. On Saturday at 5p.m. and 7:30p.m. we offer collective intentions which means we are
able to take more than one intention for the mass. If you have any questions,
please speak to one of the priests.
