Third Sunday of Advent

FAMILY CORNER:

Advent to Easter is most important in the liturgical year because, through these seasons, we learn what our own mission is here on earth. In anticipation, we await the birth of Christ, the beginning of His mission, His Passion, and His Second Coming. In my missal, the theme for the Second Sunday of Advent is one of waiting with hope and expectations though sometimes we find ourselves in dark and hopeless situations. The readings from the Bible “constitute God’s light shining upon us in the waiting room of life.” This passage certainly struck a chord with me! Since 2015, my friend has had rapidly advancing ALS. Last year, after Christmas, she called to say her goodbyes; yet not long ago, we received a message from her. Part of her message read, “Two years later, I'm still in the celestial waiting room, fidgeting in a plastic chair and thumbing through God's old magazines.” Friends had passed away, but, still here, she decided she should be as active as possible. She danced at a special wedding, helped a friend recuperate from surgery, and lent what strength she had to fighting a flood. Our mission is to give ourselves to others in the service of the Lord – to love. Recently, I attended a celebration of life for a 22-year old who died in an accident. I did not know this young man except through his mother, but her stories pointed to a compassionate and loving person who wanted to right injustice. I have learned through these experiences that, in our lives, what matters is what we do with those lives. My wonderful friend, and this amazing young man, have shown us that actions matter. As we remain in life’s waiting room, let us be

certain that our good actions maintain right relationships. - Jeremiah

CD of the Month

The Mass Explained by Fr. Larry Richards

What is the significance of the Mass? Is it in the Bible? Fr. Larry Richards is an

inspiring and dynamic speaker who presents exciting and powerful insights into the history, spirituality, and biblical foundations of the Mass. He opens the door for us to enter more profoundly into this most perfect prayer and unite our offering with that of the priest. This will change the way you experience this most sacred of all mysteries – the source and summit of our lives. CD is available in the parish office
