❖ Did you know?

That until 1808 Dubrovnik’s official name was Ragusa.

That Dubrovnik never made a war to conquer a territory, instead of running a war, it bought it’s territory with a real money.

That Dubrovnik i.e. (Republic of Ragusa) was the first European state which promulgated the first quarantine law in 1377 and established quarantine (lazzaretto)

on the island of Mljet in 1397.

That the Republic of Ragusa became the first European state to recognize the government of the United States in 1776.

That the Republic of Ragusa (Dubrovnik) was at its pick in mid-sixteenth century second maritime power in the Mediterranean and third in Europe, after Venice and

Nederland. The Republic was represented with forty-four consuls in different ports.

That the Statute of Dubrovnik was promulgated in 1272 year. The seventh book of the Statute contains exclusively regulations concerning Maritime Law, which is the

❖ That Dubrovnik's 1395 Insurance Law is the oldest in Europe. It had all aspects of contemporary maritime insurance. This law is three centuries older than Lloyd's

insurance, London, which dates from the end of 17th century.

That the first known description of double entry bookkeeping in the world was written by Ragusan Benko Kotruljevic: On Trade and the Perfect Merchant (Della

Mercatura et del Mercatore freretto) in the year 1458.

The Republic took very good care of its citizens and implemented strict measures regarding public hygiene and medical service.

* Medical service was introduced in 1301* The first pharmacy, one of the oldest in Europe, (still working) was opened in

1317* A refuge for old people was opened in 1347

* The first quarantine hospital (Lazzaretti) was opened in 1377* Slave trading was abolished in 1418, almost 400 years before America. For the

slave trading was abolished in 1418. * The orphanage was opened in 1432.

The Music of Dina Lacko

D.L.: “I have discovered that what's really essentialfor a creator of sound isn't what we vaguely define as inspiration or evenwhat it is… we want to play, sing, compose or rebel against. No, what'simportant is the way we feel it. Art is all about the inner power of the

unknown deep inside us…

Volker Pramann and Le Petit Festival in 3DThe Mosaic of Virtual Art of Jean Marc Peytavin

Jean Marc Peytavinand has said, “There is no beginning. There is no end. There is only the passion of making it… Cinema or video films are my dearest

lovers…”

During the last night … LPF also presents a collage of little bit of everything from

previous days of Le petit Festival du Theatre.
