I was attracted to Rennes School of Business particularly for the international aspect and the atmosphere in the School and the city. During my first year, the variety of classes and the close relationship with the international professors helped me focus more closely on my career plan.

Pedagogy

The Rennes School of Business Programme Grande Ecole is characterised by its strong international and career-centred bias.

CAREER-CENTRED TRAINING During their studies at Rennes School of Business, students are placed in real conditions in which they have to experiment and make decisions in order to:

■ acquire the experience and know-how that future managers need

■ help them define their career objectives ■ choose the courses they require to follow

their career plan ■ help them learn more about themselves

so they can improve their inter-personal and leadership skills

CAREER GUIDANCEStudents are accompanied in the construction of their career plan to help them gradually play an active role in their decisions. For example, topic-based workshops, individual and group training sessions and student/company events are organised throughout the year.

CAREER EXPERIMENTATION ■ Company placements

During their course, students complete 3 placements which help them to gradually construct their career plan.- End-of-1st-year placement (minimum 10 weeks): an operational mission, mainly commercial, an introduction to a business sector and a company, its environment and how it operates.

- End-of-2nd-year placement (minimum 10 weeks): experimenting with a function and a “business” environment in a company in order to focus on and reinforce career choices.- End-of-course placement (16 weeks): a “Function” expertise placement on which the student bases his/her dissertation project, the Graduating Project (GP), linked to his career objectives.- Gap year (not compulsory): a complete year in a company, open to all Programme Grande Ecole students between the 2nd and 3rd year.

■ GRP associations In the 1st year of the Programme Grande Ecole, students join one of the Rennes School of Business’ 25 ‘‘Global Responsible Pioneer’’ associations. Throughout this experience, students learn to work in a team, to lead, develop and manage projects in a pre-professional context. The associations place students in real-life situations in which they have to make decisions, take action and thus apply the leadership and management techniques learned in class (business plan, retro-planning, search for partnership, etc.) in the field.

Page 9: PROGRAMME GRANDE ECOLE · learning about cultural diversity. - The knowledge of at least 2 foreign languages is essential for anyone working in today’s economy. This involves intensive

THE EDUCATIONAL HIGHLIGHTS ■ MANAGEMENT FUNDAMENTALS during the first three

semesters: students learn about and acquire a global view of the company and its environment and set the foundations of their career plan

■ A SPECIALISATION PERIOD during the last three semesters of the course which helps towards a final career plan decision and allows them to specialise in the chosen function, in France or abroad

■ AN EXPERIMENTATION PERIOD in the GRP associations, during company placements and the optional “gap” year which allows them to put the knowledge, tools and concepts they have learned into practice and to finalise their career plan

During my training I developed my personal skills through the various experiences that came my way, particularly through associative life. On the Sports Committee, I learned some essential managerial qualities such as perseverance, listening, commitment, etc. You learn to fight to land partnerships or a dream placement.

With my double degree, I had the opportunity to study at a famous business school ranked in the Financial Times, located in Shanghai, the economic capital of China. I have not only learned a lot about Enterprise Management and Chinese culture and improved my Mandarin; I have also learned a lot about myself. It was a very good experience that can be valuable in my résumé and in my future job.

I went to Canada as part of an academic exchange and feel certain that it was one of the best experiences a student can have during his studies. It allows us to move outside our comfort zone, question our attitudes, be open to different cultures and discover new ways of working. It’s a wonderful adventure!

My university semester in the United States was very rewarding from a cultural, academic and human point of view. I discovered a friendly, welcoming population. The university teaching and administrative staff and the employees were very supportive and helped us to get the best out of life on the campus. I had the opportunity to travel during and at the end of the semester. It was an unforgettable experience.

I chose the “MSc Digital Marketing & Communication” specialisation in order to cope with the issues created by digital technologies, as I want to work in the music industry. The programme is the ideal way to learn how to get the best use out of new technologies and to reach out to consumers in a broader and better way. Everyone is using new technologies, but only a few people really know how to use them. This Master’s programme will boost your career.
