This is a 4 credit hours course offered to the 4th

year

medical students extending for 4 weeks. Active participation in

bedside teaching and lectures was done. The lectures includes:

a. clinical syndromes of brain stem, cerebellar

disorders.

b. peripheral neuropathy: classification and

pathophysiology.

c. movement disorders.

C.1.2. King Faisal University, College of Medicine and Medical Sciences (1991-

present):

C.1.2.1 Introduction to Medicine, Course MDMD 451.

(1991-Present):

This is a 6 credit hours course that extend over a 6-

week period. This course is offered to the 4th

year medical

students for 4 rotation per year. The course emphasizes

history taking and physical examination. One week is

allotted for neurology. During this week, the student

received both lectures and bedside teaching.

C.1.2.2 5th

year clerkship course in Neurology MDNL 506

(1991-Present):

This is a 3 credit hours course that is extending for 3

weeks period. The course is given to 5th

year medical students

for 6 rotations per year. The course objectives are to teach

basic and main clinical disorders in neurology.

C.1.2.3 Nursing Course MDNU 313. (1991-Present):

This is a 9 credit hours course in nursing. The

Department of Neurology gives lectures for this course

which includes common neurological disorders.

C.2. Postgraduate Training

C.2.1 University of Louisville American Board of Neurology Training Program

(1990-1991):

Active participation in all activity of morning reports, ground

rounds, residents seminars with particular emphasis on teaching sessions

that includes electroencephalography and electromyography.

C.2.2 KFU Fellowship in Neurology (1992-Present):

The Department of Neurology had no postgraduate training

activities up until 1992. After resuming the chairmanship of the

department the postgraduate activities and the KFU Fellowship training

program in Neurology was initiated. The postgraduate activity includes;

morning reports, resident seminars, neurosciences lectures, clinical

pathological meeting, neuroradiological meeting, journal club and

tutorials. Furthermore, the commencement of the KFU Fellowship

program in Neurology attracted many applicants from various parts of the

Kingdom. The program is a 4-year residency training (minimum 117

credit hours). Each year of the program is 48 weeks (4 weeks vacation).

The first year is spent mainly in Internal Medicine with introduction to

Neurology. In the 2nd

year, the candidate is introduced to clinical

neurology as well as neurosciences, neuropathology, neuroradiology and

psychiatry. The 3rd

year is spent in clinical neurophysiology including

electroencephalography, evoked potentials and electromyography as well

as pediatric neurology and neurosurgery. The 4th

year is devoted to

advanced neurology. A comprehensive written, clinical and oral

examination follows. If a candidate passes the examination his awarded

the KFU Fellowship in Neurology. This degree is equivalent to those who

hold other postgraduate degrees.

Participated actively in the training of residents from postgraduate

programs like Internal Medicine, Psychiatry, Neurosurgery and

Ophthalmology who receives rotation in the Department of Neurology.

In addition, active participation of residents training from

postgraduate programs in Family Practice and Community Medicine and

ENT was achieved through lectures and tutorials.
