1 Dear Parents, caregivers and students. This message will also be translated in Arabic and Dari. Students attended school for just six weeks in Term 1 and likewise in Term 2. This term they have been engaged in learning for ten full weeks. Your child’s teacher has planned and implemented two five-week programs aimed at developing every student’s literacy and numeracy skillset. I applaud our school’s teachers, assistant principals and deputy principals for considering how every student learns. They have their Planning Day this week in which Term 4 learning programs will be co-developed. A large amount of Bronze awards have been presented this term along with a growing number of Silver and a smaller number of Gold awards. We are excited about the end of year VIP reward for students who achieve 30 Daisy Stars. Invitation to VIP day is also based on current level of positive learning, engagement and behaviour choices. Please encourage your child to be reflective and show empathy for others. Excursions are rare events. However, Mr Searle was able to organise for the petting farm to visit Guildford. Thanks Mr Searle Love the photos on Dojos! The SRC leaders recently organised and submitted a petition for students to ride their bike to school. The petition was strongly supported by students with over 100 indicating they are interested in riding their bike to school. This collective student voice convinced me to support the idea. Thank you to SRC coordinators Miss Di Biasi, Miss Kim and Miss Crafter who are now working on a safe Bicycle and Helmet Safety Checklist and permission note. This bike program has been named ‘BAG’ meaning Bikes At Guildford. Outstanding news! On average more than 95% of students are attending school every day. Thank you, parents and caregivers, for preparing their children to arrive at school by 8.57am. Your positive guidance will help your child/ren develop positive habits of learning. If you are experiencing financial hardship, free food boxes or meals are available from our charity partners. Contact Mrs Daher or Mrs Hellstrom who will contact you to discuss your needs. Intense cleaning will continue in Term 4 between the hours of 9am and 3pm. The current process for morning drop-off and 3pm pick-up will continue in Term 4. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK

Kind Regards Mr Chris Haberecht Principal

SPECIAL STUDENTS SENT TO SHOW GOOD WORK TO THE PRINCIPAL

The school playground improvements will provide students opportunities to interact creatively and physically with self and others. A combination of passive and active areas are designed to build problem solving skills, social skills and a sense of belonging. The area outside Year 3 classrooms will be open on the first day back in Term 4. Thank you for listening. Have a safe and enjoyable 2 weeks holiday at home. Remember to take your children out to parks for exercise to release their excess ener-gy. Have them read every day in place of too much TV or video games.

Well the weather is warming up and it is time for another break from school. This year has been complicated. But here is something you might like to do during the holidays - Life Education has some information on setting up a space in your garden or in a pot to grow some carrots. Here is the link - https://www.lifeeducation.org.au/parents/yates-how%20to-grow-carrots-four-easy-steps You might also find some other vegetables to grow - I have snow peas in my garden. They grow very quickly and produce well. Snow peas are great to eat straight from the plant or in a stir fry. Tomatoes are fun too! Growing your own vegetables encourages healthy eating! Happy holidays!

Ms Willis

As we reach the end of this extremely busy term, I would just like to take this opportunity to express my pride and admiration in how brilliantly everyone in our school community is working together to ensure the children’s education runs as smoothly as possible. I would like to thank you all for the support over the last 10 weeks. There are lots of things that we have all learnt so far this year but the most important is that the health and wellbeing of your family is our top priority and comes before everything else! Enjoy the two weeks break from the hustle and bustle of school life. Rest, play, and have fun spending time with your family. Happy Holidays!

Last week Kindergarten got a visit from some adorable furred,

feathered and fleeced friends! KINDIFARM paid our school a visit and the Kindy students got to learn

from Farmer Amber! Students learned about why farm animals are

so important to us and this experience completes their 'Farm

Unit' of work for the term. Students got to hold, pat, feed and smell these wonderful animals and there were smiles all round. Thank

you to Mr. Searle and the Kindy Teachers for organising and facilitating such an engaging

learning opportunity at a time when excursions are not possible.

In Stage 3 we have

been looking at the

bushranger Ned Kelly

and weather we con-

sider him a hero or a

villain. These letters

take on the perspec-

tive of Ellen Kelly

(Ned’s mother). She

is explaining to Jacob

Barker (a squatter)

why her son and fam-

ily are good people.

Written by Khoder Chaouk, 5D Dear Mr Baker, Thursday 8th August 1867 I take great offence to the harsh way you described my targeted family. We are a poor, generous people - without a father - trying to live with barely any money. Ned is the soul we need, he is a heroic boy who has risked his life to save a seven-year-old boy from drowning. He is brave. He stood up against the corrupt police and is willing to stand up for the poor so accept your fate. Secondly, he has been the man of the house since his father's death. He has been a lovely, helpful and caring young boy.

Thirdly, Ned is a generous and giving young man. He is willing to share what little wealth he has with those who have been mistreated and pushed aside by those in charge. Ned is not the man who stole your black mare because he is too generous, caring and giving to do that. Sincerely Ellen Quinn Kelly. Wri en by Darius Djan, 5D Dear Mr Baker I find it inexcusable that you would accuse my poor and needy family of the . We are nothing but poor and are just trying to get by in this hard life. My son Ned is nothing of what you say. My son‐Ned‐ is not a thief. He is a responsible boy who‐despite the loss of his father‐has decided to drop everything and care for his distressed family. Ned, without a fuss‐tends to our farms and is lovely to animals. Even if he stole your horse‐I’m not saying we did‐he didn’t even lay a finger on it. I find it very hard how you could accuse us of the . Apparently returning a horse is a crime now. Your bias truly does ra le me

Secondly, just three days ago didn't Ned selflessly risk his life for young Richard. At least my son actually cares for people. I could’ve lost my son and all you care about is a black mare. No wonder Ms Baker le you. Is this not enough proof we are not thieves? Thirdly, Ned countlessly s cks up for the poor and even gives his allowance to people who need it more than him. He even goes as far as giving his dinner to the homeless. Ned deeply cares for the poor as he knows we were once in their situa on. Now I would very much like it if you would stop your horrible accusa ons towards my targeted family. I hope you now know that we‐The Kelly’s‐are disciplined and innocent people. Ellen Kelly, Selector Written by Eric Chen, 5D

Dear Mr Barker, Wednesday 7th October

I have been deeply offended by how my family ‐who

are just trying to get by‐ has been accused of theft.

We are poor nice people who wouldn't dare steal

from a squatter.

My son Ned is a helpful, loyal boy who ‐despite his

father's death‐ has taken care of this needy house.

Every day without complaint he takes care of the

land and animals. Why would anyone with these

qualities ever steal?

Secondly, he is courageous and heroic. Even though

his life was in danger, he valiantly saved young

Richard from drowning. Ned even faced multiple

police ‐ who are cruel and unfair to us selectors‐

without fear. Without him, us selectors would be

targeted by the ruthless police and squatters such

as yourself. I am very disappointed that my brave

boy was compared to a bushranger.

My dear son is a very kind boy ‐ who even brought

back your horse after caring for it. Despite this you

didn’t give him the reward that we desperately

need. You discarded the fact that he groomed and

cleaned the horse which would surely have cost

hundreds of pounds. I am so sad that you threat‐

ened to assault my kind son.

My son is a part of a nice, helpful family who didn't

steal your horse.

‐Sincerely Ellen Kelly

Written by Sophia Chen, 5D Thursday 8th October 1897 Dear Jacob Baker, I’ve received a letter from you complaining that my trustworthy family needs discipline. After this letter, you’ll know to not complain again. The Kellys are innocent! Ned is an extremely helpful boy. He -without complaining- politely took care of this poor household! Supplying food and water even though he doesn’t have a father. Each and every day, he takes care of all the animals lovingly -without sisters and brothers helping him At least he found your missing horse! You should be thankful of him. He definitely did not steal. Secondly, Ned has been generous throughout his life, giving money to every poor family -except for us- definitely doesn’t deserve discipline, instead he deserves a reward. He gave your horse after he used our money, our money. I bet you, your horse felt way better after Ned treated him kindly. How could he steal when he found your horse and fed and returned him? Thirdly, Ned is the bravest man I’ve ever seen. When he was young, I saw him fearlessly risking his life to just save a little boy from raging rivers -the rivers were very deep I must say. The boy’s mother gave him a sash for saving him! He even faced a policeman trying to shoot him down! I hope you didn’t think he’s going to get scared of you! In my eyes, I believe that my child didn’t steal. He’s fearless, helpful and generous! How could my child with those personality traits steal? Sincerely, Ellen Kelly.

Written by Hasty Sorine, 5D Dear Mr Baker, What you’ve said about my family is really disturbing. The negative way you’ve described my strong family is hurtful. The Kelly’s are innocent kind people, we are trying our best to live our lives My son is a helpful boy who is trying to survive without having a father. Ned has taken on the responsibility of our needy household everyday without complaining! I must say. He really tends to care about his family, land and animals. Ned never stole your horse he took good care of it and gave it back . How could you accuse my precious son of stealing? Ned has such a kind heart! He only stole from the rich to give to poor-someone with no heart (you) can’t change my mind. Ned rebelled against unfair police and the justice system. How dare you have the audacity to call my son disrespectful names. Thirdly, my son is such a courageous man, he fought for the poor. He really cares about the poor. Ned risked his life to save a boy his age from drowning. Lastly, my family has always been innocent in my eyes. Please don’t accuse my precious son of stealing ever again. From Ms Ellen Kelly.
