Principal’s Message... Dear Patricians, Welcome to the YEAR OF ACCOMPLISHMENT! We have decided to christen this year THE YEAR OF ACCOMPLISHMENT in commemoration of the past 9 years of grand success and excellence. This year St.Patrick’s Academy celebrates the 10th Anniversary of its inception and I am extremely grateful to the past Principals who have nurtured the school and brought it to the heights of excellence- Br.Sebastian, Br.Joseph and especially Br.Tomy Varghese, from whom I have only recently taken over the mantle of leadership. Br.Tomy Varghese without any doubt has been very instrumental in bringing the school to the level of perfection it can boast of, and for this I wholeheartedly congratulate and commend him for a job well done. In order to remember the 9 years of the school, we intend to reminisce the achievement and successes of these glorious years with a monthly theme that will showcase the values that have shaped this school. Every Assembly and related activity will call to mind the various facets of these values so that we can fondly reconnect with the memories and experiences that have evolved and etch them in our memories for posterity. Hence we hope to ACCOMPLISH all the aspirations, yearnings and hopes that we hold for for the school during the course of this year. This year is also a very special year for us Patrician Brothers as we commemorate the 200th death anniversary of our beloved Founder, Rev.Dr.Daniel Delany. For St.Patrick’s Academy too this has a special significance and we will be celebrating this occasion in an appropriate manner. Br. Tomy Varghese worked long and hard to develop the school over the space of 5 years that he spent here and this can be seen in the multifarious innovations and creativity that is a living witness to his talent- the walls of the Junior Block which have been adorned with larger than life drawings of animals, the innovative Kids Space for the tiny tots which has become the cynosure of all eyes in and around....... the list is endless. The Year of Synergy brought in a host of laurels and successes for the school in Academics, Cultural events and Sports. The two Batches of Synergy as envisaged attained brilliant results recording 96% in the Board Examination. The Learning Point website (an online education project) has performed a School wise result analysis of the ICSE and ISC results for the year 2014. St. Patrick’s Angamaly, secured the 22nd rank in the All India ICSE exams and the 26th rank in the All India ISC examination. We are now the second best ICSE school in the entire state of Kerala. Congratulations to all the teachers and also to the students who appeared for the examinations and did the school proud. I am sure your future will be bright and you will reach the goals you have set for yourselves with élan. Both in the Inter school Culturals and Sports our students achieved success par excellence. As we journey forward into The Year of Accomplishment, we do so with a quiet confidence that we can do better than our best and uphold the dignity and glory of the school which has been won for us by our worthy pioneers. Let us put all our efforts and aspirations together and as one Patrician Family strive to reach the pinnacle of excellence. Bro. Christopher Dawes Congratulations!!! Batches of Synergy Excellent results have become a habit with St. Patrick’s Academy. Following the footsteps of the previous batches, both the board batches of Synergy have brought laurels to themselves and to the School with a magnificent result. Out of the 24 students presented for the ISC, March 2014 Board Examination, 21 secured distinction and the remaining got first class. All the 38 students who appeared for the ICSE, passed with distinction. Kudos to Mr. Mishel Jyothis & Ms. Ivana Rose for being the school toppers with 96% in ISC & ICSE respectively. Special congrats to Merin Tomy of Class XII & Jos Paul Shajan of Class X for scoring centum in Physics & Computer Applications respectively. A word of appreciation to Bro. On 25th June, we had an informative session on ‘career options’ by Prof.Venkataraman, an expert in Career Guidance. The session was attended by the students of class 9,10,11 and 12. With his entertaining class, he educated the students on the prospects of various jobs, job markets and the various career options. The students were informed

of the aptitude, requirements and the top colleges for each career so that they do not end up in a ‘career mismatch’. We benefitted a lot from the interactive session during which we cleared our doubts and concerns about our careers and future. We are thankful to the SPA management, for organizing such a useful and encouraging session and for helping us discover our real aptitude.

A seminar on Traffic rules and Road Safety measures was conducted on Tuesday, the 27th of May, 2014 for the high school students. It was organized by the RTO department, Angamaly under the expert guidance of Mr.Dileep Kumar, Asst. Motor Vehicle Inspector. The objectives of the seminar was to make the students aware of the danger that awaits them on the road and

the importance of following traffic rules. He also explained the consequences and not following the rules through a number

of videos and power point presentation. He also acquainted us with a few traffic signals and also emphasized the importance of wearing helmets as it plays a major role in presenting fatal accidents. The session was very interactive with students playing a major role in reasoning out causes and answering the queries forwarded by the resource person. The classes proved to be very informative and enriching. We

thank the school management for giving us this opportunity.

We have gathered here to bid farewell to Bro. Tomy Varghese. There is no way to graciously thank or bid farewell to the man who envisioned St. Patrick’s Academy into what it has become today. Needless to say, St. Patrick’s Academy would have been an entirely different school had it not been for Bro. Tomy Varghese. Instead of asking “Why?” to suggestions, Bro. Tomy always welcomed a fresh perspective on things with his “Why Not?” principle. His insightful reflections were often shared in the school newsletters and assembly speeches. His personal style that was unique and uncommon among school leaders, inspired both his teachers and students to think beyond possibilities. Along the way, he had championed the Responsibility Model where he believed everyone could excel further under the guidance of his or her own personal sense of responsibility - be it in learning or personal leadership. It will not be an exaggeration if I were to say that each and every pillar of the school, especially the Junior School and the new children’s park are all a testimony to Bro. Tomy’s words and deeds. Bro. Tomy had diligently canvassed for many modern and unconventional facilities the school now has. He was ready to take risks. As a result the story of St. Patrick’s Academy will always be inextricably linked to this man who masterminded every development the school has achieved.

Bro. Tomy framed much of his thinking on education in terms of empowering change agents - teachers, students, parents and staff. For him, change is about not just making changes in habits but obliterating them entirely through a process of continual improvement. “There is no such thing as gradual change. It’s not enough to have ‘practical strategies”, says Bro. Tomy. “Change is sudden. Change is overcoming the ‘Tyranny of Good Enough”. He always argued against the idea that there is an acceptable level of mediocrity that makes “good enough” acceptable for his students. “We are capable of excellence”, Bro. Tomy used to say. He sees no room for complacency. He knows that to make a pearl requires a grain of sand inside an oyster, implicitly acknowledging his role as a disruptive force. “Schools can organize for success”, says Bro. Tomy. “You start with high expectations and provide the resources and support”. Certainly we are going to miss him much. Many will remember him as a charismatic and compassionate leader who brought life and injected passion into the lives of many. Bro. Tomy, we thank you and salute you for all you have done. May the years ahead of you be better and may you find happiness and God’s blessings always. In the name of all the members of the staff, I bid you farewell. Fair thee well and God’s abundant blessings.

“Children must be taught how to think, not what to think”Keeping this very thought in mind the management organized a staff seminar on 28th and 29th of May. We had a very eminent resource person, Mr.Valerian, with a strong base in psychology. He made our sessions really energetic with many activities and new concepts. The seminar provided an opportunity for our staff to become accquainted with

their colleagues. The main objective was to transform all teachers into a learning and creative teacher. The seminar was focused on importance of effective teaching in realising the potential of students and enriching them. Many new concepts including Dance floor- Balcony innovative group study, Timeline charts, classroom management skills, made the sessions fruitful. We, the SPA staff is trying to implement new methods for transforming our students, a transformation that will enable all learners from all backgrounds to accomplish success and shape a better

world in the future. We strongly believe in the maxim “Intelligence plus character, that is the goal of true education”

students understand the importance of health. The students took active participation in the activities and moreover we were able to understand what ‘First Aid’ really means. The three important things we need for first aid are knowledge, skill and confidence. I would like to thank Bro. Christopher for organizing the seminar. We learned a lot about health and first aid. We learned how to act when accidents happen, no matter how small it is. We also learned that the first priority to be given is to make sure that we are safe and then try to help others. Mr. Jerin showed us how to help a person who suffers from cardiac arrest through a practical experiment on a simulated dummy.

During the visit paid by Class XII, after the heavy downpour, in connection with the outreach, we happened to visit Ms.Sindhu’s house and we were touched by the pathetic living conditions. All the eight members of the family slept and ate in a single room. The noble idea which took birth last year, saw success. On 19th June foundation stone for the new house was laid by our principal Bro.Christopher, Vice Principal Bro.Earnest, Senior Co-ordinator Ms.Ancy and student representatives. There were special prayers offered for the family, followed by a prayer song which evoked God’s blessings. After the ceremony everyone shared the joy of the day with sweets.

The newly sworn in Student Council for the year 2014-15

The academic year, 2014-15, began on Monday, 2nd June, for UKG to Class III in the School Junior Block. Children were struck with the magic of colours that adorned the inner walls of their block.

Before departure, Bro Tomy Varghese ( the former principal of our school ), inaugurated the Kids Space. It was the most poignant moment as we bid farewell to the young, dynamic and visionary leader of our school , Bro.Tomy.

The LKG and Pre K.G orientation held on June 7th and June 11th respectively turned out to be delightful and entertaining as many programmes were put up by the children of higher classes. The UKG children also put up a wonderful dance to welcome the little ones. The junior block settled down to its routine, beginning with assembly conducted in class wise order; children of various classes put up various programmes. It was heartening to note that even the teachers put up a skit, which the students thoroughly enjoyed. The message of keeping our surroundings clean was well conveyed through the drama enacted by the teachers.

On June 20th the much awaited I n v e s t i t u r e Ceremony of the Junior School was conducted. Leaders were chosen from a spectrum

of candidates. Bro. Christopher, our Principal put them through a rigourous questionnaire before chosing the final candidates. The first investiture ceremony of Jr.School was held in the junior school itself with a beautiful stage being put up.

The children sang a melodious welcome song, recited poems, presented wonderful insights into the qualities of leadership and enacted a few scenes from the life of Abraham Lincoln.

These were some of the activities done in the junior block and I am thankful to the wonderful support from the management, teachers, non teaching staff and parents. Above all I am thankful to the Almighty for bestowing his immense grace, so that in each program we saw his rays of blessings.
