Keeping in Touch

At Sir Arthur Currie, we want to ensure that all of our community members feel that they are connected to the excitement that happens in our school on a regular basis. If you have yet to do so, please download any of the following social media platforms and follow along.

Website: https://sirarthurcurrie.tvdsb.ca Twitter: https://twitter.com/sactvdsb Facebook: www.facebook.com/sactvdsb

Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sirarthurcurrietvdsb Smartphone App: bit.ly/sactvdsb

On a regular basis our staff are capturing our students engaging in wonderful challenging learning activities and sharing them with the broader community. We are so proud of our learners and we know the power of populating their digital footprint with examples of positive learning.

Our staff is also very committed to using FreshGrade to capture key learning for our students and then share that learning with families. Such documentation creates the opportunities for rich discussion at home as to, “So what happened at school today?”. Over the next few days, educators will be sending an invitation for you to download the App and gain access to your child’s digital portfolio. We will also be using FreshGrade to send reminders and notices

School Council

Interested in learning about the impact you can have to help shape the Sir Arthur Currie school community and culture and create an environment for our children and families to thrive? Want to see some additional outdoor enhancements installed in the yard? How about having the opportunity to meet the other parents at the school?

We would be thrilled if you would join us on Tuesday, September 18th from 6:30pm-7:30pm for the Sir Ar-thur Currie School Council Soirée! We will be having snacks, refreshments and meeting other like-minded par-ents and school staff. Child minding will also be available for school-aged children. We hope to connect with oth-er SAC parents at this informal gathering andshare how to become involved as well as all of the benefits of par-ticipating. A few of our target activities for the 2018-2019 school year will includedeveloping an Active and Safe Routes to School committee, providing input on a code of conduct and dress code for our school, as well as providing input on our Bullying Prevention Plan and Safe Schools Plan as well as fundraising for the purchase and installation of outdoor enhancements and other school. The School Council is an integral part of a positive, safe and engaging school culture. For the upcoming school year, we are looking for interested individuals to take on the executive roles of secretary and co-chair. No experience needed ~ just enthusiasm and a passion for partnering with other passionate parents. If you are interested in joining or know someone who would be a great addition to our council. Please complete the nomination form and bring it to our Soiree on September 18th

Milk and Popcorn

Help support the Intermediate Students at SAC. Popcorn will be sold every Thursday for $2 a bag. Flavours include Dill Pickle, White Cheddar, Salt and Vinegar, and Butter Salt. Milk may be purchased by completing the form that was sent home this week. Please have the completed form and payment (Cash Online) returned by Friday, September 14th. Students will begin receiving their milk on Monday, September 24th at first nutrition break.

Peanut Butter Substitutes

Recently there have been a number of products introduced into the market that act as substitutes to peanut butter. As an example "Wowbutter" or "Soybutter" are advertised as being 100% peanut & nut free peanut butter replacements. These products are said to look like, smell like and taste just like peanut butter.

The Thames Valley District School Board Senior Administrators have decided any products considered to be a peanut butter replacement are no more appropriate in our schools than regular peanut butter. This decision was made after determining that our staff would have great difficulty in being able to differentiate between real peanut butter and the substitute.

We are asking parents to avoid using peanut butter and peanut butter alternatives because of the difficulty in being able to distinguish alternatives from the real thing. Thank you so much for partnering with us to keep our Sir Arthur Currie school community safe for everyone.

Pediculosis (Head Lice)

Children can get head lice from many different sources. Once head lice is detected, it is important for parents to treat their child as well as check other members of the family to reduce spread to others. Please ensure that you follow the directions on the selected treatment. Metal nit combs may prove to be more effective than plastic ones for nit removal. If you require a treatment package, please see Mrs. Schinkel in our front office.

Please inform your child’s teacher or the main office as soon as you detect head lice, so that we can send information home to the other families in your child’s class.

For more information, check out the Middlesex-London Health Unit link https://www.healthunit.com/hcp-head-lice

Safe Arrival and Pick up Procedure

Safety of our children is always our guiding principle when making any school community decisions. We are very fortunate in that our school parking lot was designed to maximize student safety during drop off and pick up times. The exterior lane was created for both school buses and families who are dropping off children and continuing on their way.

The exterior lane of the parking lot is supervised each day from 8:45 am to 9:00 am and 3:30 pm to 3:45 pm with staff members.

Parents are asked to stay in their vehicles and drop off their children along the south and east side of the exterior lane. The buses will use the west side of the exterior lane for drop off and pick up.

Please ensure that your children exit from the side of the vehicle nearest the sidewalk and not into the lane of traffic.

Once your children exit the vehicle they will then use the sidewalk and proceed to the pathway leading to the school yard. Parents will then safely continue around the exterior lane and exit onto Buroak Drive.

If you need to park your vehicle, please use the parking spaces within the interior parking lot and exercise caution as you cross the exterior lane.

Thank you for supporting this new procedure. Together we can ensure safety for the Sir Arthur Currie School Community.
