Year 1: Thinking about senses, what would you see, hear, smell or touch on a safari? Can you write a poem? Year 2: Katie Morag Talk for Writing. Rewrite story in own words. Can I change a story ending? Year 3: Children will focus on descriptive vocabulary and sentence construction. This will be in order to describe mythical characters and settings. Year 4: Pupils will be focusing on how to structure an explanation text. Year 5: Historical Narrative – ‘20,000 Leagues Under the Sea’, using the features to start. Year 6: Pupils will be creating a storyboard of their own version of a Greek myth to explain the setting, characters and events and then developing descriptions of these before writing their story.
Year 1: Can you gauge how long a minute is? What can you do in one minute? Can you tell the time to o clock and half past the hour, on both analogue and digital clocks? Year 2: Can I solve arrays? Can I solve multiplication problems? Year 3: Children will continue to focus on fractions. They will learn how to add fractions with the same denominator and change some improper fractions to mixed numbers. Year 4: Pupils will be reviewing rounding to the nearest 10, 100 and 1,000. Some pupils will move on to rounding to the nearest 10,000 and 100,000. Year 5: Measurement - reading scales and converting measures. Year 6: Pupils will learn to convert between fractions, decimals and percentages and to solve problems involving the calculation of fractions, decimals and percentages of whole numbers or measures.
Year 1 Children should bring their blue reading folder every day and return homework on a Thursday. Year 2 Please read your reading book every day at home. Try not to spend more than 20 minutes a day on homework. Let your child be a child. Year 4 Classes will visit Aspire Park on the following days: Sunday 5th February: 4A & 4E Monday 6th February: 4B & 4C Tuesday 7th February: 4D The cost of trip will be QR20 for the bus from DBS to Aspire Park. Letters will go out in due course.
Year 5 Please remember to send in a cereal box and egg carton for the river system. Home readers are changed on: Sundays 5A & 5B Mondays 5C & 5D Tuesdays 5E Students should wear the correct school uniform. Spelling homework should be done every week. Year 6 The deadline for the Dubai trip final payment is January 26th. All money must be paid by this date to secure your child’s place. Visa information will follow. Year 1 Swim Squad The Year 1 swim squad assessment continues
on Thursday 19th January for 1C from 1.30pm to 2.15pm.
Outdoor Athletics The Year 3, 4, 5 & 6 Outdoor
Athletics team will be chosen from their PE
lessons. Selected children will receive a letter.
Only children from 1C who can confidently swim in deep water, swim a length on their front and a length on their back without
any aid should attend.
