WeviewFiraTàrregaasa livingprojectandthereforesensitivetothemomentweare living ineveryway.Ourmissionhastopassthroughmanyplaces.WeareastrategicmarketfromtheMinistryofCultureandanessentialculturalevent,fromthecapitalofUrgell,addressedtotheworld.AndtosophisticatethisrelationshipwiththeprofessionalsectorandtogivedepthtotheprogrammingthatwedefendeachSeptember,weenteracrossroadsthathavetodowithreflection,withtrainingoraccompanyartistsintheprogrammetoSupporttheCreation.
This2016westartanewadventure.Aroadthathastodowithaskingourselvesmorequestionsandthatwillculminatein2018.Thesequestionshavetodowithafiercedefenceofstreetart,highlightingthethreemajorassetsordistinctivefeatures,ineachedition,whichmakethemuniqueandhighlyvindicatedtoday:interculturality,itsparticipatorynature,andthefactthatprovidesvalueandhelpsustoseetheshortcomingsandpossibilitiesofcontemporarypublicspaces.
FiraTàrrega2016,therefore,isaboutintegrationandthus,universality.Thatqualitymakesstreetartaperformancecategorythat issuitableforanytypeofmarket,withapotentialthat isabletoaddressindividualsandverydifferentcontextsfromaparticularcode.
Now, how do we develop interculturality from home? Are we prepared as institutions or the public facilitiesavailabletoustoaddressthecontemporarycitizen?TowhatextentareweasEuropeanstodayreflectedinourscenario?Whereandhowcanmakethedifference?Howcanwerelatetoourneighbourswiththeculturalrichnessthatrevealsthecurrentsociallandscape?Thisiswhatwewanttofindout.

The 36th edition of the fair will take place from 8 to 11 September and will feature 60 performances from 57 companies
This year we will further multiculturalism as the backbone of the programme
The French company Artonik will be responsible for opening this year with The Colour of Time, a show that celebrates collectively friendship, cultural exchange and interracial friendships.
The 36th edition of FiraTàrrega willtakeplace from the 8th to the 11th of September.Aneweditionmarkedbyaveryclearfocalpoint:multiculturalism,aqualityofstreetartthatmakesitcapableofaddressingverydifferentpeopleandcontexts.Thisyearwepresenttheworkof57companiesfrom10countries,amongwhichtherewillbe33 premiere performances.
Thewholeprogrammeprovidesarichline-upofformats,genresandstyles;anofferforallaudiencesandages,with 30 participating Catalan companies, 11 Spanish and 16 international.Atotalof60 options, which will take place in various public spaces in the city of Tàrrega (47 shows) and several halls (13 assemblies).
Theprogrammeofthefairisdividedintofivesections:Official Section(selectionofhitsfromtheseasonandinternationalpremieres),Platform(performancesfromProgramtoSupporttheCreationandothercoproductionprojects),Ondara Park (projects focusedon themost festiveofprogramming),Open Programme (space for collaborationbetweentheprivatesectorandFiraTàrrega)andBonus Tracks(withvariousproposalstocomplementthisyear’sprogramme).
Inordertomakeitmoreaccessibleandtotargetthebulkoftheprogramming,theshowonceagainorganizesArtistic Itineraries.Atotalof10itinerarieswithshowsforalltasteswillfacilitatenavigatingtheFiraTàrregaprogramme.

FiraTàrrega celebrates its intercultural potential
This 2016 FiraTàrrega celebrates one of the most representative values in street arts, intercultural potential. That’swhyweofferaselectionofproductionsthatseektoovercomespecificculturalcontextsandaddressthemtoverydiverseaudiences. Itwillalso featureaselectionofshowsunder thethemeofsocial justiceandtheconstructionofcitizenshipinEuropetoday.
Inthisregard,theFrenchcompanyArtonikwillberesponsibleforopeningthisyearwithTheColourofTime,an ephemeral ritual that originated to erase hierarchies and differences between individuals and collectivelycelebratefriendship,interculturalismandinterracialrelations.
In the samedirection, tocelebrate the interculturalpotential ofFiraTàrrega, this editionwill feature severalcommitmentsthatrevolvearoundthisissue.LargeformatcoproductionssuchasManifesta,thelatestcreationfrom Obskené,afunandfestivesongthatcelebratesdifference;thepremiereinSpainofMisa Fronteriza, from the Mexicans UniversiTeatro y Gorguz,areflectiononculturalhybridization;thepremiereofMulïer byMaduixa Teatre,atributetoallthewomenwhoforcenturiesofoppressionhavefoughtandcontinuetofightfortheirrights;orCafe EuropafromtheItaliansOndadurto Teatro,anallegorythatportraysthehypocrisyandthevicesofoursociety.
What’s new at FiraTàrrega 2016
Among the most important innovations ofthe2016edition,withintheOfficialSection,wemustpointoutthebirth of the #EspaiZebra, where the companies Baal and Les Impuxiblespresenttwoperspectivesonthecrossingpointbetweensexualities.Wealsohavetheprogrammingof#UrbanNation,asectiondedicatedtourbanculturethathasexpandedtoincludetherecentworksofMontana Colors in collaboration with Tope, Iron Skulls, Get Bak, Arcopom, Quim Moya & Ravid Goldsmith and the Americans Ephrat Asherie Dance.
ThisyearFiraTàrregahasanartistic focus dedicated to Chile,anopportunitytolearnabouttheartsceneinthecountrybymeansofproposalssuchasFulgor, from Teatro Niño Proletario,whoperformedacreativeresidencyinthecity,withintheCreationSupportProgramme.YoucanalsoseethestagingofFrames,byLa Licuadora, Viaje nº 9,byTeatro del Sonido and La cocina pública,byTeatro Container,thelatterhavingtheinvolvementofdiverseneighboursofTàrrega.

Exhibition pole and theatrical creation engine
FiraTàrregaisapermanentdynamicstructurethatworksallyeartosupporttheartsandartistscontributingtothecreationofnewmarketsforstreettheatre.Thisyear,thesixtheditionofthe Creation Support Programme, haswelcomedtheworkofelevencompaniesinresidence.
Works such as A mí no me escribió Tennesee Williams, fromthecompanyRoberto G.Alonso or Apocalypse Uploaded byLAminimAL,criticallyaffectingthecontemporaryworldanddebutingatthefair.
Anotherimportantcommitmentthis2016istheproject#Mirades,commissionedtotwonon-Europeancompanies,CCOT (SouthKorea)andCarretera 45 Teatro(Mexico),whowillsharetheirparticularvisionturnedintoastageexperienceconcerningourunderstandingofthecityasameetingpoint.
OtheroutstandingpremieresforthisSeptemberinclude Joan Català, Ponten Pie, Kukai Dantza Taldea, Grupo Puja, Cirque Exalté, Companyia de Circ ‘eia’, HURyCAN, El Pont Flotant, La Industrial Teatrera and Fundación Collado - Van Hoestenberghe, amongst others.
Performing arts market and professional activities
FiraTàrrega goes far beyond the theatrical exhibition and year after year is working to become a top level professional,causingtherelationshipbetweenbuyersandsellers,whichcontributestogeneratingmarketandsynergies,positioningthefieldofperformingarts.
La Llotja,anexhibitionhallof1,100m2,isthespacewheretheprofessionalmeetingsareheld.Withstands,halls,meetingplacesandnecessaryservicesitistheepicenterofprofessionalrelationships,asithostspresentationsandlectures.ProfessionalsalsohavetheClub Pro,themeetingplaceforeveningentertainmentandmoreinformal,morerelaxedconversation.

In addition, the 2016 edition incorporates two international associations:IndependentStreetArtsNetwork,whichbringstogetherprofessionalsfromthestreetartsintheUK,andtheISACANetwork,whichbringstogetherorganizationsfromtheemergingsceneofstreetartsinIreland.
Moreover,the CASA - Circus and Street Arts Circuitprojectisnoteworthy,inwhichfrom5to11September10professionalsfromalloverEuropevisitCataloniatoexplorestreetartsandthecircus,wheretheywillseethemainscenicandcreationareas,aswellasactivelyparticipateinthefair,toseefirsthandtherealityofstreetartsandthecircusinourhome,withmeetingswithinstitutionsandorganizationspresentinthisedition.
FiraTàrrega, city and participation
FiraTàrrega understands public participation as a key part in the creation the stage proposals that it presents.Anditaimstobringseveralprojectstothepublicsothatnotonlycantheyseetheresult,from8to11September,butcanactivelyparticipateintheprocess.Involvingpeopleactively,0minutesfromthecreativeprocess,providesadifferentlookatprojectstodemocratizeculture.Moreover,companieshavetheopportunitytointeractwiththeaudienceandcreateadialoguewiththelocalpeopleandlandscapeofthetown.

The Colour of Time is an explosion of colour,happiness and good wishes in a choreographed parade. Anephemeral ritualthatoriginateswiththeaimofblurring the hierarchies and differences betweenpeople and celebrating friendship collectively. TheshowisinspiredintheHoliFestivalheldinIndiaatthestartofspring.Theproposalcombinesmovement,actor-dancers and live musicians and invites theaudience to participate in a very special walk toshareabathofGulalpowdersandalotofhugsandtochangethecolourofthefirmamentalltogether.
Cie. Artonik. French company born in 1992, withan extensive international career. From its originstheyhavebeeninspiredbytheproximity,travelandpublic spaces, a sensitivity thatwas already in hisearly shows and which has been completed with agreatcuriosityabouthumanbehaviorinthecommonareas.Alwaysattentivetothejoysandtragediesofeverydaylife,Artonikusesdance,theater,visualartsandmusicalenvironmentstodevelophisdistinctivestylestage.

Thereisafinelinebetweenthegeniusandtheidiot,similar to the one of the conflict between instinctandintellect.Aproposalthatlooksattheabsurditiesof life, using extreme circus to highlight the mostanimalfacetofhumanbehaviour.Ashowthatpokesinto the seams of contemporary circus and mixesit with theatre, physical comedy and live music tocreate an original piece with a surrealist tone andgreattechnicalneatness.ThefirstproductionbythisemergingcompanythathasalreadyearnedtheawardforthebestpieceofcircusandphysicaltheatreintheAdelaideFringe2016.

The Circ d’Hivern arose in 1996 under the shelterof the Ateneu Popular 9 Barris in Barcelona toencourage the creation of companies and to offer new, high quality,medium-size format proposals. This isthe 20th edition with this entertaining and energetic, poeticandsurrealistshow,performedbyfivewomen,directedjointlybyGuillemAlbàandAlbertoFeliciateand with music by Clara Peya. The Chinese perch,verticals, balancing, trapeze, acrobatic bicycle,clown, humour…Pure circus in a rather unorthodoxjointworkthatappealstoentertainment.

AworkchoreographedbyMayaM.Carrollthatexplorestheredefinitionofthefrontierbetweenrealityandfiction. Seven characters confront their intimaterealities with epic myths. Following the fantasy ofan uncertain future, they move forward along thenarrowlinebetweenlucidityanddarkness.Theworkhighlights the changes and constant expansion ofhuman perception, playing with interaction andimprovisation. A journey both real and fantasy. Aproposalthattalksaboutdreams,fearsandthevitalneedsthathelpustosurvive.Theshowistheresultof the exchange of programmes between FiraTàrrega and the CLAP network, in this case to know more abouttheworkoftheyoungestItaliancreators.

Since 2007, the Collado Van HoestenbergheFoundationhaspropagatedaviewoftheworldthatisbothcriticalandoptimisticfromthestages.Thisnew piece, part of the project Praxis, exercises in realisticism, proposes rethinking the common in a montage where the audience are in a large emptyspace, a kind of ballroom after a party. Throughmovement, they are led to a strange collectivecatharsis while uncomfortable questions are posedandtheyareinvitedtoletthemselvesbeaffected.Adeliriousritualthatconfrontsuswithwhatitmeanstobetogether.Areflectioninwhichpoignancyandlaughterwillhaveirreparablecatharticeffects.Showwithout seating.

This piece for five dancers, directed by thechoreographer Rodrigo Chaverini, interested in thecreation in the crossing of disciplines, arose as anintervention in the public space to inaugurate theVertientes festival in Santiago inChile. Wearealwaysstrangeforsomeone;sometimesevenfor ourselves, expelled from humanity by a societythat closes doors, buildswalls andpoisons uswithfear.CaféEuropaexplainsthelifeofasmallvillagewithgood,honestpeoplewholoveandrespecteachother. A routine that is affected by the arrival ofa stranger. Through physical and gestural theatreand the new circus, Ondadurto surprise us with this montage that acts as a great structure inspired in the architecture of the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao.An allegory that portrays the hypocrisy and vicesof our society. A co-production between MirabiliaFestivalandFiraTàrrega,theresultoftheexchangeofprogrammesbetweenFiraTàrregaandthe ItalianCLAPSnetwork.

Inthekitchen,wedevelopcreativitybyconnectingwithourculinarytradition.Whenpreparingadish,ondeciding and combining the ingredients, we operate in thesameterritoryofartisticcreation.PublicKitchenisamobilekitchen,housed inashippingcontainer.Anexperienceinsearchofrecipesandflavoursthatbring out stories that recall characters and thatrevealhumanityandintimatemomentsfullofflavours.The neighbours cook with the diners, generating a tastysocialgatheringthatallowsrecognitionofthedifferent culinary customs of the inhabitants of aterritory.
