President’s Cabinet MeetingOctober 5, 2016Page 3

assault week. He wants to work with the Holland Project and do a poetry slam.

He thinks the cabinet should do an event for sexual misconduct before the semester is over.

iv. Deputy Chief of Staff, Michael UptonHe met with Rachel Lucas to catch her up with everything he had worked on for the snif. He also met with Sandy and shared that meeting with Rachel Lucas. They discussed that many of the stipends are unrealistic and that the budget will be a lot smaller. He has been in contact with John Sagebiel about having three or four people visit our campus and evaluate our recycle and compost systems. The goal is to work ahead on the new buildings and work backward on he old buildings. Deputy Upton will meet with David Dutra who is the head of recycling for the university. They will create a final budget and hope to reopen the snif by November 1.

Director Rojas entered at 7:15

Pack friendly businesses. He is following up with businesses and waiting for many other to get back to him. BFF café and Beefys restaurant have been in contact and chose to partner with the university ad become pack-friendly.

He will meet with the Bicycle committee sometime in the coming week.

v. Attorney General, Dylan TedfordHe wrote agenda for technical difficulties with posting agendas online. Open meeting law affects state meetings primarily but the university has elected to conduct meetings in accordance with Nevada open meeting law. People having repeated agenda problems need to relearn how to post on the website. The most important part is having three physical copies so we don’t get in trouble for holding a meeting. Getting senators to post agendas earlier and less last minute is key to avoid any violations. The goal is transparency in the government so following open meeting laws are very important. Chief Justice Bruketta brought up an issue at Ansari about having an item posted and the mix up of meeting locations.

He asked that anyone who thinks they might have a problem to contact him to make sure no violations occur.

vi. Director of Campus and Public Relations, Brooklyn Lawton

President’s Cabinet MeetingOctober 5, 2016Page 4

vii. Director of Clubs and Organizations, Richard LongHe spoke about the issue of ASUN appointed and elected officials attending club funding hearings and the proxy issue passed through his department. He received six intern applications for the department and will hopefully have one intern per commissioner.

viii. Director of Programming, Casandra HurdleShe said the As American As event was wrapped up. Working with Fusion TV went well and both organizations hope to work together again. Fusion TV wants to film their most important episode of their webshow on our campus the day before the election. Her department will discuss being involved in the video but the Center for Student Engagement will participate and work to make the video regardless of what programming decides. Programmer Kinel had the idea that the exec board dress up as a politician and send who they chose to dress up as to her.She also asked that if anyone has ideas for programming to present them to her first, then she will talk to her committee to avoid conflict of interests from the exec members.

She also asked that everyone not personally contact her or other programmers for homecoming week to protect the integrity of the week.

She is assigning programmer liaisons to departments this Friday so everyone will have contact with a programmer for ay questions or planning an event.

ix. Director of Legislative Affairs, Veronica CharlesShe needed more volunteers for rock the vote campaign. Political pallooza is Tuesday 11-2 followed by a panel 3-4. The people running for office have very busy schedules so we must respect their time commitment.

He asked Director Long about an email that could be sent to the clubs and organizations informing every one of the event.

Director Long informed the cabnet to not use the Clubs and Orgs. list serve because it is very outdated.

He said next Tuesday is national coming out day. He will be working with the Center and will send the details to the cabinet when he gets them.

b. Department Updates

6. NEW BUSINESS

a. Cabinet ProjectsThe Cabinet will discuss updates on Executive Branch projects. These items are strictly informational.

-TedxUniversityofNevadaASUN is top sponsor along with college of business. President Boone said all of exec has to go. Tickets are $30 for students. It has become one of the biggest events in Reno so a strong ASUN presence is important.President Boone said he talked with Brett Simmons about getting more seats specifically reserved for students. He encouraged the cabinet to spread the word about the event to ensure that the student seats get filled.

Dr. Rodriguez asked if students have always had to pay.

President’s Cabinet MeetingOctober 5, 2016Page 6

President Boone said yes. The tickets are discounted from the public price of $100.

-Rock the Vote.

-Heck/Masto DebateASUN has reserved the silver and blue room in Lawlor Events Center. Director Charles had yet to receive confirmation from Joe Heck about whether or not he will be able to attend the debate.

-GivePulsePresident Boone asked Director Hurdle if programming still plans to use GivePulse for homecoming.

Director Hurdle said she is discussing with Chris to determine what partners they will have for the service event. ResLife is planning an outreach evet for the same day so programming will most likely work with them.

President Boone asked if anyone had ideas to get more people signed up for GivePulse. The goal is 3,000 students signed up. He informed that they just recently reached 2,000 students and wants to continue the growth. He asked that any ideas go to himself or Senator Greene.

Dr, Rodriguez said the goal is actually to get 3,000 students engaged in a service event so would probably need 5-6,000 students to activate an account.

-iLead Conference Recap-Club Fair Recap-Welcome Week Recap-Exec Board Outreach

President Boone asked for any ideas regarding an outreach event for students to get to know exec. He does not want another failed event like Open Mic Night with the last exec.

Speaker Texeira asked if there were plans to do Steak and Steins again.

President Boone said yes but that is a spring semester event.

Director Rojas suggested a block party in front of the KC and passing out free swag.

President’s Cabinet MeetingOctober 5, 2016Page 7

Director Hurdle suggested a finals event such as giving away free scantrons and bluebooks for meeting the exec members.

-Campus to the City Initiative-Best of Reno

Director Lawton wil be overseeing this project.

-Pack Friendly Business CampaignPresident Boone asked VP Springmeyer to work with Inkblot to create marketing campaign poster to spread awareness to students about Pack Friendly Businesses.

Chief of Staff Atienza through President Boone asked Deputy Chief of Staff Upton about a possible partnership with a ski resort.

Deputy Chief of Staff Upton said he had been in contact but haven’t been able to figure out the discounts. One option is a 20% discount during the winter break. The other oprion is a season discount of 5-10%.

Chief of Staff Atienza said one of the ideas for Health Week is to shuttle students to a nearby ski resort to have a student day on the mountain.

VP Springmeyer informed the cabinet that Boreal does $15 Friday lift tickets for all students. He suggested possibly providing just a shuttle service for the many students that don’t have a car.

Director Hurdle informed the cabinet that the shuttles are often behind schedule and will most likely be backed up for an event like this.

Attorney General Tedford mentioned that a liability waiver would be needed for the shuttle service and physical activities like skiing or snowboarding.

Dr. Rodriguez said that I the past the busses have declined taking people up the mountain in the winter so it would take negotiating to make it happen.

-City Beautification

President’s Cabinet MeetingOctober 5, 2016Page 8

President Boone pitched the idea of getting Wolf Pack/Nevada manhole covers around the city for the campus to the city campaign. Most covers already say City of Reno so he suggested maybe doing just the university manhole covers.

Chief of Staff Atienza volunteered to take on the manhole project.

Attorney General Tedford said he might have a connection from when the city of Fallon changed their manhole covers.

President Boone said he found a website that does manhole cover stickers with color and customizable logos. However, the stickers are temporary and need to be updated frequently.

Speaker Texeira said President Fabbi got pretty far on this project but steel manhole covers were way too expensive.

Dr. Rodriguez said the city is creating learning spaces in low-income areas. She suggested using the manhole cover stickers to put information/facts for kids in these learning spaces. She suggested talking to grade school teachers about what facts would be good for the stickers.

Chief of Staff Atienza said he will look into it.

-Lamppost Flags-MyUniverCity Campaign-Mayor Welcome Letter

-Pack Internship Grant ProgramPresident Boone asked if anyone had ideas for events other than the poster presentation to market the event.

VP Springmeyer said he wanted to send something to the club list serve but it was not up to date. He also asked that members of the cabinet let him know if they have any ideas for events to market the program.

Dr. Rodriguez suggested going to Reno Chamber of Commerce and share the outcomes of the program to try and get leverage or donations.

President’s Cabinet MeetingOctober 5, 2016Page 9

VP Springmeyer said he was planning on having a banquet in the hospitality room in Mackay Stadium with speakers from the community instead of just the poster presentations. He hoped that through the dinner there will be more support and donations from the community.

Dr. Rodriguez suggested making visitors from the community to pledege dollars on site for the event.

VP Springmeyer said the city supports the program and gradual funding but he would like to get a large funding check at the event.

-Executive Board RetreatPresident Boone said he was looking for date that will work. His idea was to go to Breakthrough Reno which is a problem solving team building game where you work together to get yourself out of a locked room. He thought end of October or Early November would be a good time.

Director Bezick said early November would be best right after midterms.

Director Charles asked that the event be after election day.

Chief of Staff Atienza suggested a group cooking class.

-GSA Unity in Diversity Conference-Fusion TV

President Boone asked if anyone had heard any feedback from the days event.

Director Charles said she heard positive and negative reactions. One student said they really enjoyed it and thanked ASUN for the event. Another student said they were disgruntled by some of the images.

Director Hurdle said that despite people who felt offended or uncomfortable, that was part of the point of the event to see all kinds of people and students on the campus.

President Boone said he saw screens and iPad at the event and asked what they were for.

Director Rojas said they used the iPads and raffled a macbook pro as well as free t-shirts and bags.

President’s Cabinet MeetingOctober 5, 2016Page 10

President Boone said he saw a lot of media and people filming the event. He figured there would be a lot of mixed feedback but didn’t hear anything during the day.

Director Rodriguez asked what was controversial.

Director Charles said it was the image of the elderly lady smoking marijuana. She felt that ASUN and the university was promoting an illegal substance.

Speaker Texeira and Dr. Rodriguez disagreed that it was just part of the event and the university is not promoting the drug.

Director Rodriguez said the goal of the program was to show all kinds of Americans and represent a variety of opinions and ways of life and to stop generalizing based on visuals. She mentioned that they weren’t just doing a standard raffle for a MacBook. Students had to take a picture at the event and tweet it with a designated hashtag to enter the raffle.

Director Rojas said the only thing he disagreed with was that all types of groups and diversity were represented except white/Caucasian. He thought that we should talk to Fusion TV for the next event.

Director Hurdle said she also heard the same thing as director Rojas. She noted that this was the first university they have come to for any event so this was a very large event for the University.

-Statue ProjectPresident Boone said he had a meeting with President Johnson, Chuck Price, Jim Fitzsimmons, Regent Gettys, Sean McGoldrick, and Dr. Shannon Ellis. He said facilities has been working on designing the statue or structure for roundabout in front of Joe and new gym. Regent Gettys was fighting for a water feature. Facilities was resisting any water feature for safety problems. President Johnson suggested turning off the water during the winter.Upper management of the university wants both the large block N and statue of some kind. Facilities chose the grass area by the new bike repair location between the Joe and KC to put the block N. The designs were expected to be done in the next week or two. The concern for the block N was that it would have to be the full logo includint the white square around it however Mark

President’s Cabinet MeetingOctober 5, 2016Page 11

Johnson said he has the authority to override the official logo. The problem with not having the square around the N is that the letter will be backwards for people walking from the other side.

President Boone said there are more meeting scheduled to discuss the proects.

-Biggest Little Festival-Pack Provisions

President Boone asked Dr. Rodriguez if she had any knowledge of how the provisions office is doing.

Director Rodriguez said Pack Provisions has expanded into the second storage unit and stores health and beauty supplies like toothbrushes and deodorant in there. The Pack Provisions is reaching out to Clubs and organizations for donations to sustain foodbank. They plan on sending information about gathering provisions to the clubs and orgs who are associated with give pulse.

-Sustainable Nevada Initiative Fund ImplementationPresident Boone asked Deputy Chief of Staff Upton how much money we are expected to have when the snif is reopened.

Deputy Chief of Staff Upton said after speaking with John, they are expecting 3,000 to 4,000 but the goal is $3,000 so the snif will reopen with $7,000. He also said there is a student on the Bicycle committee who is interested in doing a project and workig with the snif. The environmental club is also interested in a project.

President Boone asked if the cabinet foresees targeting more student group projects and if they should market the program as a student projects. He said that if students don’t continue to take advantage of the program, he wants to keep the program open to people who will really use the money.

Deputy Chief of Staff Upton said this first round will be a test run. After the application process, they can reevaluate and possibly add more guidelines to the snif.

-Spring Semester Programs

President’s Cabinet MeetingOctober 5, 2016Page 12

President Boone asked that if anyone has ideas for events next semester to tell him as soon as possible to begin planning ahead.

-Health WeekVP Springmeyer said each day of week will target a different aspect of health. Sexual health, physical health etc.He also plans on getting a speaker for one day of the week. There will also be an event similar to taste of Reno with healthy local vendors. There will be various events like yoga on the quad with Lulu Lemon. He liked the idea of calling it Fitness Fest with crossfit groups and other gyms.

Director Rojas said he works with one of the embassadors for Lulu Lemon and they are interested in connecting more with campus and events like a 5K run.

VP Springmeyer mentioned getting a fun/interactive 5k run like Color Me Rad. He is also interested in bringing back a campus 5k for all students in the spring.

Director Rojas suggested making a small fee for the run but rewarding students with a Lulu Lemon hat r some other free swag.

Director Rodriguez suggested partnering with NFL play60 to work with kids through a non-profit organization.

VP Springmeyer said he will talk to Washoe County School district to possibly work out a program to go to local schools and help with PE classes.

Director Rojas said he got approached there needs to be an organization to donate the money to that isn’t already supported.

President Boone asked about still trying to have a fitness expert speaker.

VP Springmeyer said he is still trying and asked Director Hurdle if thy coud maybe have the speaker as part of the welcome back events for the spring semester. He also wanted to have a kickoff event for the opening of the new gym but doesn’t know how much it will cost or how much money he can spend.

President’s Cabinet MeetingOctober 5, 2016Page 13

Director Hurdle said that VP Springmeyer should come to her programming meeting to start planning as soon as possible.

-Camp Grounded-Voter Friendly Campus Designation

President Boone said director Lawton is in charge of the program but is currently out of town. He asked that if anyone has ideas for improving Voter Friedly campus to please contact him or Director Lawton. President Boone’s idea was to put flyers around campus saying we are a voter friendly campus but doesn’t know if it is possible or if facilities will allow it.

Director Charles said she had been working with inkblot for voter campaign to create posters. She also said she is still doing the voter pledge cards.

-Internship ProgramChief of Staff Atienza asked who is interested in interns for their department. He needs a general number so he can have an idea of how many applicants to hire.

-ASUN BanquetPresident Boone said the banquet is a long way out but asked if anyone had ideas for the banquet.

Chief of Staff Atienza said there aren’t plans yet but ballrooms b and c are already reserved for December 7.

-Gender, Race and Identity ConferenceDirector Rojas said he was looking for available venue location and date for the conference to take place.

Director Hurdle asked that Director Rojas share the date as soon as it is determined because she could end unity week with his event.

-Campus Beautification Initiatives-Off-Campus Housing/Resi-Ratings

President Boone said they wanted to create a booklet that advertises housing near campus. However, Dr. Marzinski is worried that the ads would force people away from the dorms. President Boone suggested only advertising to just sophomores and above. He said he will pass the project to Director Lawton.

President’s Cabinet MeetingOctober 5, 2016Page 14

-Athletics Concessions ContractPresident Boone said he was approached by the director of the Wolfshop. The contract for athletics apparel is up and the Wolfshop wants to pursue the contract against Silver and Blue outfitters. They need to draft a proposal to prove to AD Knuth why we should continue the Wolfshop rather than Silver and Blue. Despite that Silver and Blue prices will likely be cheaper.

Springmeyer asked if the Wolfshop has plans for updated products or anything different.

President Boone said the Wolfshop is considering bringing back Russel Athletics. Russel Athletics was one of the top sellers in the past but had to be cut because of poor working conditions in Russell Athletics production facilities. Rusell Athletic is a more affordable middle ground for students to buy university gear.

Director Rodriguez informed the cabinet that every university book store in the nation refused to buy from Russell Athletics because of their sweat shops where their products were made eight years ago. But now the company has rebranded themselves and fixed their working conditions.

-Nevada Student Alliance InitiativesPresident Boone said there were two alliance initiatives voted on that every institution in the state is going to pursue. The first was Its On Us campaign and the other is how to support undocumented students at universities. The problem of undocumented students hasn’t been an issue at UNR yet.President Boone said to send any ideas to director Rojas as it will be his initiative. He said he is not aware of how many undocumented students are on campus but the information could easily be obtained from admissions and records.

-‘Year in Review’ video-Experimental College/non-credit class offerings-Volunteerism and Civic Engagement Initiatives-It’s on Us Campaign-Sexual Assault Prevention Awareness-Undocumented/DACA Student Support-Alcohol Awareness Education

President’s Cabinet MeetingOctober 5, 2016Page 15

Chief of Staff Atienza said there were no new developments. Alcohol awareness week is in November but he was planning spring event to spread awareness.

-New Democracy PlazaPresident Boone said the area in front of the KC lawn has been named democracy plaza. The name hadn’t caught on and facilities didn’t know the area was named. He wanted to get approval from facilities and get a large sign that says Democracy Plaza and explains the importance of the area and the free speech spot.

Chief of Staff Atienza suggested getting the sign dedicated to a specific person.

Director Bezick clarified if the whole campus is not open to public free speech.

President Boone said the campus is public but it is encouraged for people to use the area that is now democracy plaza. If someone wants to book a tabling spot for a free speech demonstration, they are directed to Democracy Plaza. President Boone said he will oversee the project because he wants the name of Democracy Plaza to catch on.

-Preparation for Next Legislative SessionDirector Charles said she I working on AB579 with the board of regents. The legislation concerns steps for admitting students that are registered sex offenders. She wanted to see an addendum to the steps so the university would know before the student gets admitted. She is also looking at different bond issues concerning Reno/Tahoe International Airport. They are working on a tax brek for people who work with the airport.

-Public Faculty EvaluationsPresident Boone said he had heard about the project for years but is had not made any progress.President boone said past Senator Hood was not able to make much headway on the project. They were able to obtain a petition with a couple thousand signatures and turned it into the faculty but nothing more happened. There have been significant roadblocks on the project. The project makes any evaluation of from a student about a professor, open to all students. The biggest argument is that the RateMyProfessor website already exists for this. This would be a middle ground because RateMyProfessor is either the best reviews or the worst.

President’s Cabinet MeetingOctober 5, 2016Page 16

President Boone said this project would probably require a lot of infrastructure and own database. He asked if anyone would be interested in taking on the project.

-John Mackay Endowment FundraisingChief of Staff Atienza said he wanted to use hospitality room at Mackay Stadium.

President Boone said he saw Kieth Lee and he wanted to invite all the past ASUN presidents to come back for the Mackay Endowment fundraiser. Boone wasn’t sure if that would be for this year or just a possible route for endowment fund in the future.

Attorney General Tedford recommended following up with Keith Lee very regularly if he wanted to make any progress.

Director Hurdle said to let her know about plans and she may be able to associate it with Mackay week. She also suggested connecting with Mackay Mines Club alumni because they may be able to donate a lot of money.

-Internship Program

b. Discussions Relating to Student Concerns-Parking/Transportation

President Boone said this is the biggest problem for most students but there are no university plans to build a parking garage in the next two years. He said the director of parking services was very against any software that would allow student to renew their meter all day because it would prevent visitors from being able to come to campus. President Boone said he didn’t know why the focus was on visitors and not students. He said he will talk to President Johnson in the coming week about overriding the meter decision to make parking easier for students.

Attorney General Tedford said there is a bad problem with students parking off campus that result in students’ cars being towed because of where they park.President Boone said the university plan to help the parking problem is basically to tell students to stop driving to campus and ride skateboards or bikes.

Director Rodriguez asked how much it is to ride the bus.

President’s Cabinet MeetingOctober 5, 2016Page 17

Director Rojas said it is $1 to get a two hour riding ticket.

Director Rodriguez suggested talking to the city or parking services to get discounted student bus passes.

Attorney General Tedford said that most students would probably still drive because they would have to walk to the bus stop and wait for the bus and hope they get to class on time.He suggested the university buying land to build a parking lot and have a shuttle service to campus.

Director Rodriguez suggested getting a shuttle from the Redfield Campus in south Reno. She said the connect shuttle may not work because there are only 25 seats.

Director Long asked the status of removing freshman parking passes all together.

President Boone said it was just talk but is a serious possibility. He will talk about it with Dr. Ellis when they meet.

Attorney General Tedford said taking away freshman parking would likely lead to freshman living off campus.

President Boone said that many universities don’t offer parking passes to freshman so it would be doable. He said there would probably be exceptions they could make for some freshman. He said that if the bus system gets fixed it would likely help and reduce the number of freshman with cars.

Director Charles said she thought fixing the busses wouldn’t effect students the way adding parking would.

Speaker Texeira said they would be more likely to make progress with the university concerning the busses but not with parking.

Attorney General Tedford said the benefit of the bus program from an off campus parking lot with multiple shuttles would make it easier for students to not have to leave their home an hour early to get to class like a regular bus would.

President Boone asked Deputy Chief of Staff Upton if he would be willing to contact RTC about discounted student bus passes.

President’s Cabinet MeetingOctober 5, 2016Page 18

Deputy Chief of Staff Upton said he would.President Boone said the problem could be alleviated in the coming years if bike share start so students can rent a bike for $1 and ride to campus.

Director Hurdle suggested not completely removing freshman parking but possibly just reducing the number of spots for freshman.

Attorney General Tedford said his biggest worry about removing freshman parking is that Reno is a large city and many freshman students need cars to get around to places like Walmart or going to work.

President Boone said the university does need to drastically improve the shuttle system to help with students who don’t have cars.

Director Bezick said that when he came to Reno from Virginia, he was surprised that freshman were allowed to have cars. But his understanding is that because Reno is a commuter campus for many student who grew up locally, many freshman need cars.

President Boone said despite every student disliking the parking situation on campus, admins do not see the problem and brush off the problem.

Director Bezick suggested pitching the idea of adding floors to the parking garages already on campus.

President Boone said the issue with parking garages is the expense to build them which comes out to about $30,000 per parking space. It is easy to build new academic buildings because more people are willing to donate money and have their name of a building rather than a parking garage.

-Athletics and the Student SectionPresident Boone said that Doug Knuth approached him about the poor student section attendance and Knuth has no idea how to get larger student support and stay passed halftime.Boone said that AD Knuth is considering cutting down on the seats reserved for student for sporting events because the university could make more money selling the tickets to the public.

President’s Cabinet MeetingOctober 5, 2016Page 19

President Boone said he didn’t have any ideas for improving student attendance and students staying longer other than asking Knuth to get better teams.

Director Rojas suggested adding incentives that might draw students to stay longer like cheaper concession food for students. He said from experience that most students leave games to go eat.

Director Bezick said he has been working with Blue Crew to make the student section fun. Naming the student section and having people dressed up as “spirit leaders” would help.

President Boone said when he went to Purdue for the football game, he noticed the student section was very interactive including dances and songs during timeouts. The students were more engaged despite that Purdue also has a subpar football team.

Director Hurdle said that athletics and the athletes do not work with programming very well so there is no personal connection to the teams to keep students interested like there was when Brock Hecking played here. She said she worked for the Reno Aces and they emphasized doing something to keep people engaged during every downtime in play.

President Boone suggested someone walking through the stands ad student section doing trivia on the big screen because the whole stadium gets involved.

Director Rojas said that creating more tradition would get more students to games. He also suggested having sections based on grades I school so that seniors don’t have to sit next to freshman.

Director Charles suggested changing the timing of when free stuff is passed out instead of all at the beginning of the game.

Attorney General Tedford said that at TCU everyone gathers on the quad and practices their teams cheers like a pep rally so everyone knows the songs and cheers for the team.

President Boone said that is what orientation used to be but now that football players and the coaches not giving a

President’s Cabinet MeetingOctober 5, 2016Page 20

speech to incoming freshman will continue to hurt attendance.

Director Bezick liked Tedford’s idea and thought we should work hard to influence the freshman to support the teams because it will grow as those students progress in school. He also suggested reviving the tailgate area despite the university not liking it. With the current system, most students tailgate at an off campus house then many students do not make it to the game. He suggested creating a tame tailgate environment but having no tailgate hurts the most.

President Boone said Coach Musselman pitched the idea of having all the freshman go to the stadium during welcome week and teaching cheers.

Director Rojas agreed with director Hurdle that athletics needs to do more to get students to show up because students don’t go to games for ASUN or Blue Crew.

President Boone said Musselman is willing to work with the students and created the Arch Madness event. Polian is not willing to allow his players to attend a pep rally meant for them. It depends on the coach.

Attorey General Tedford suggest putting all the effort into supporting the basketball team and Musselman which could lead to more students attending football. He also suggested figuring out ways to get more girls interested in sports events because guys will go wherever the girls are.Director Bezick asked if programming could create an event in Lawlor during welcome back week to get students inspired about basketball.

President Boone said we should cut the losses with football and support basketball because they have momentum on campus with a million dollar donatin and are predicted to go the NCAA tournament. He said Blue Crew should come up with an idea for a name for the student section at the basketball games before the season starts.

Director Bezick said Blue Crew is trying to get people to be the “MusselMen” and wear shirts with the coaches face and do flex-offs or other things to get the fans excitied.

Director Hurdle said during March from the Arch the basketball team is doing a demonstration and dunk contest. She also asked if people could reach out to basketball players to be involved on campus and maybe be a contestant in the homecoming pageant. She thought the more students know the players, there will be more support from the student population.

Director Bezick said he will talk to the basketball coaches.

Attorney General Tedford asked if there is a post-game tradition or make one to celebrate wins that would keep people there until the end of the game.

President Boone said the admin wants to light up the N bright blue whenever a sports team wins.

Director Rojas said we have Night of All Nations which is a large campus event.

Attorney General Tedford said unity week should focus more toward the people who are narrow minded and against some groups to break down walls.

Director Hurdle agreed with Tedford on incorporating more groups into unity week.

Director Rojas said it is very difficult to get people to change their minds because many people are tolerant rather than accepting. He doesn’t think students of other faiths or no faith would just walk by and ignore the event.

Director Charles agreed with Rojas but said all the university can do is put the events on and hope that students choose to be involved.

Attorney General Tedford suggested a forum like TedX where selected students can tell a story or share something that could create understanding between groups.

Director Charles suggested an event like Relay for Life with an interactive event where students can hang ribbons in memory of people or a ribbon for people on campus who have been a victim of a hate crime, etc.

VP Springmeyer suggested doing a project with an undercover person approaching students and seeing how students respond to certain situations.

Director Hurdle said that no matter what the event is, the biggest problem is always attendance. She asked for ideas to get people to show up to events who are narrow minded or against certain event on campus.

President Boone suggested doing more events like the Fusion event where the event was brought to the student and students were forced to walk by and see what the event is about.
