President’s Message
HAPPY VALENTINES DAY TO ALL!
Can't believe that I am writing my second letter for 2016 already. I heard it is cold at home--I am writing this letter from Arkansas where it is 64 degrees and sunny this afternoon. But it sounds like I brought the cold weather with me. Suppose to be very different this weekend. The local residents here are not happy with me. Thought they were my FRIENDS!!!!!
We had our Executive Board meeting January 4th with our new board members. Mary Geissler gave her report and it wasn't good news, but we are tough and will make it through all the cuts in the budget. Please fill out the survey on the back page of your January newsletter so we know how you want to receive your monthly newsletter--by email or regular mail. We lost our postage permit so we will have to pay 47.5 cents per letter. We also may be paying for paper now.
Hope you are planning on attending the Tailgate party on January 28th at the Courthouse. Bring a snack or a dish to pass and it should be a fun afternoon.
Our February special interest meeting will be given by Nancy Fastener, our Nutrition Specialist, and she will be talking on "Reading Food Labels and Food Safety". The lesson is on February 5 at 1:00 P.M. in the Courthouse Assembly Room. This is a Pool lesson from our 2015 state convention.
On February 11, we will have our monthly breakfast and celebrate Valentine’s Day. Hope to see you all there as we have lots to catch up on because we didn't have one in January.
"On the Move and in the Grove" starts February 28 to May 28. The information and report paper is included in this newsletter. You will be surprised how the time counts up. Also, you should be keeping track of your volunteer hours and money spent on HCE events for the Impact Program. You can include your monthly club and county meetings, special interest meetings, community service you do with your club, attending the salad luncheon, buying items at the white elephant and silent auctions, reading for bookworms and donations to Food Pantries, needy families, etc. I couldn't believe the hours and money I put into HCE already since June.
Winter is here now and we aren't outside working. Let's get started on our Arts and Crafts projects for our contest at the Spring Conference which will be held April 1 at Faith Lutheran Church. The specialty category for this year is "Let's Make Music". Make sure you check the dimensions before you start your project.
If you haven't done so yet, please send in your club members, officers and other club information to the Extension Office as soon as possible. We would like to get our new lists compiled for 2016. This information is in your new secretary books you received at the Fall Conference.
Thanks for you cooperation and try to stay warm!

Club News & Highlights
Chippewa County Association Home and Community Education Executive Board Meeting Tuesday, January 5, 2016 Courthouse Room 16 The meeting was called to order by Fran Sykora with the Pledge to the Flag followed by the Homemakers Creed. Roll call was taken with the following present: Fran Sykora, Alberta Koneazny, Dorothy Kaiser, Dolores Schryver, Jean Cronquest and Mary Geissler. Secretary’s report was read and approved. Treasurer’s report was read and approved. Bills were paid. Reports Mary Geissler and Heather Lubs talk about the cost of mailing newsletters. The cost for 2016 has went up and HCE would be responsible for paying all costs for the newsletter. The board decided to drop the bulk mailing of newsletters. We encourage members to receive newsletters by email, if possible. Newsletters will still be sent to members who can’t use email.
Jean Cronquest will be making a schedule for book-worm readers. Reading will start in March. Dolores Schryver reported that Spring Conference will be on Friday April 1, 2016. There will be changes for entries in the Cultural Arts. Unfinished Business The parents of the new baby boy, born during HCE week were very appreciative of our basket. Executive Board members who attended the Christ-mas Party at Bridgewater Restaurant had a fun time and enjoyed good food too. The board members were reminded of the upcoming Tailgate Party, which will be held at courthouse on January 28, 2016 at 1:00p.m. New Business Special Interest for February will be held on February 5, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at the courthouse. Nancy Fast-ner will discuss how to read food labels and will talk about food safety. Meeting was closed with Prayer Creed.
Submitted by Alberta Koneazny, Secretary

Cultural Arts
The State Conference will be on held September 12-14, 2016 at the Eau Claire Plaza. Let’s be sure Chippewa County HCE is well represented with our cultural arts projects. The Cultural Arts entry form for 2016 can be found in this newsletter. Please review it carefully as there are a few changes. The bonus category this year with be “Let’s Make Music”. Wisconsin Bookworms™
Greetings from Jean, Wiggly is in hibernation until March, when our faithful Bookworm readers will be braving the cold and snow to begin our Spring reading. (Lucky Wiggly) Our first book will be “Cows To The Rescue” written and illustrated by John Himmelman. It is the story of a farm family’s visit to the County Fair, which is usually a much anticipated and fun event. However, things keep going wrong, and the family must depend on their faithful cows to save the day. The illustrations showing their helpful cows are very clever. Another fun activity is to find the cows that are hidden extremely well within the pages of the book.
Good luck staying warm, Jean Cronquest, Wisconsin Bookworms Chair
For 2016 we would once again like you to keep track of your Volunteer Hours. Remember, these hours must be activities directed by HCE. They started on June 1, 2015 and go to May 31, 2016. Family and Community Life will again be focusing on walking and exercise as a countywide activity. Any ac-tivity you do between February 28th and May 29th can be counted. This includes walking, cleaning, garden-ing, dancing, swimming, and you-name-it exercise of any kind. Each 20 minutes equals 1 point, for example, one hour equals 3 points. Please report your totals in points, not hours. The recording form is available in this newsletter or can be found on the Wisconsin Association for Home and Community Life, Inc. website. If you wish, you may develop your own as long as you use points for your totals. Remember, one point for every 20 minutes of activity. Please give/send your report(s) as a group to the Chippewa County HCE President, Fran Sykora, for compil-ing. Each member should have their own report. In 2015 there were 39 counties that reported participation in 'On the Move and in the Groove' with total points at 98,989 which equals abut 33,000 hours! Way to go! I'm sure we will break 100,000 points next year with everyone Movin' and Grovin'! The winners for 2015 were: Kewaunee County with 6635 points Manitowoc County with 5814 points Adams, Bayfield, and St Croix Counties were not far behind, so let’s keep this competition going for every-one’s good health and well being. THANK YOU for your participation and looking forward to 2016!

19. Bonus Category – Let’s Make Music
For the past four years our "Bonus" contest has been
greeted with a lot of excitement and participation. We decided to do it again. This year we're celebrating with
Let’s Make Music.
The bonus category is just for fun!! Note: There is a size restriction. Base no larger than 10” x 10” with a maximum
height of 20”.
Here are the rules to enter:
1. The display you use for your creation is of your choice.
2. You can use any media to construct your entry.
As with any Cultural Arts entries, your entry should be judged in some way at the County level. Please bring only one entry from each county.
The entry will be turned in with your other Cultural Arts entries and will be put on display somewhere in the conference center.
This will not be a judged category – instead – the “Music” item will be voted on by those attending the conference. Each person will receive a “vote slip” in their
packets when they register for the 2016 WAHCE State Conference. Then it will be up to all attending to choose the best looking entry.
We hope all counties will like the idea and join in the fun.
If you have any questions about the 2016 Cultural Arts show, please contact me. Thank you!
