Governor Phillip reserved the area for the town of Sydney, making it Australia’s oldest park

Used as “ the common”, gathering firewood and grazing animals until Governor Macquarie proclaimed it in 1810

A new water supply (Busby’s Bore) brought water to Hyde ParkA raised pipe was used to bring water to the town’s water-carts

Known only as a terraced flower garden in the ’80s, the park has blossomed into a full-fledged 40-hectare recreational park, which now includes a massive lake, fountains and three outdoor gyms.
