CLASS HIGHLIGHT: Grade 1T

Where to begin with what we’ve been learning in first

grade. Grade one is such an amazing year because there

is growth that can be seen almost every day. These

students have been growing as learners, readers and

writers. We most recently have been working on our

reading stamina as individual readers. WOW! Can you

believe we are able to sit and read the pictures and

words to our “just right books” for 15 minutes!? This

is AMAZING! The students have really been driven

to beat their latest time, and to become better

readers. Since the New Year we have been

discussing what goals are, and how setting goals

help us to learn and become better.

The students have been setting goals and achieving them with their

reading, and recently were asked what other goals they have. Here’s what they

had to say...

I want to work on my letters and skating. T.O.

I want to work on doing chores and working in the garage. D.G.

I want to learn how to do math like adding. J.L.

I want to work on writing and math. T.W.

I want to work on spelling and skating. K.K.

I want to work on figure skating. E.K.

I want to work on singing and reading. A.T.

I want to work on gymnastics and work on reading.

A.R.

I want to work on basketball and sounding out words in

writing. M.L.

I want to work on skating and reading. H.M.

I want to work on baseball and to work on reading. W.S.

I want to work on gymnastics and spelling. T.D.

I want to work on hockey and being good at Howies. L.P.

I want to get better at playing tablet and reading. D.B.

I want to get better at B.M.X. and skating and gymnastics. J.K.

I want to work on stopping in hockey and chemistry. K.M.

I want to get better at playing hockey and better at stopping.

M.W.

I want to work on skating. C.P.

I want to work on skating and reading. B.W.

Our Prairie View School noon intramural program started up again in January.

Supervised activities take place in the gym from 12:30 – 12:50 p.m. for the

students to participate. This program will run until the beginning of April.

The goal of the program is to promote physical activity, cooperation and fun.

Students can also earn participation points for their House or Team. House teams

are the Blazing Sabres, Charging Rhinos, Soaring Eagles and Thundering

Mustangs.

WEATHER REMINDERS It is very important that students are dressed to be

comfortable outdoors before school and at recess breaks.

Students should be wearing warm jackets, ski pants,

toques, mittens and boots. Also, if items are labelled it is easier

for us to locate misplaced articles.

A wind chill factor of -27 or higher is the general criteria used to determine

whether it is an indoor or outdoor recess.

In an effort to keep our school clean, we ask that everyone remove their footwear in the

entryways before entering the school.

P.V.S. MILK PROGRAM The milk program has been running for approximately three months and over

40 students have milk cards. Students can purchase a milk card for $16.00(cash)

and receive 20 milks or they may choose to bring a loonie to school and buy daily.

Please send your child’s money in an envelope or ziploc bag to school marked,

“Milk Program”. The office will set up your child’s milk card, keep it and let you

know when he/she has only a few milk left on their card.

Rehearsals are

underway!

The cast has been working very hard in preparation for the big production in May. Music rehearsals have been the focus for January and choreography rehearsals are just around the corner. Volunteers are now working on the costumes, the set design is being finalized, tickets have been designed and our crew will be in place shortly. We do have a musical website with the latest updates and news. You can find us at https://sites.google.com/site/pvsfineartsclub/

NEEDED: We are looking for adult volunteers to assist us with our stage construction that is scheduled to occur on a weekend in April as well as volunteers to assist with smaller set pieces. If you are interested in assisting us please contact Roxanne Bitner at Prairie View School or Scott Burant at [email protected]. See you at the show!
