    Quotes for Reflection

    You ask if I ever feel that religion is a sham? No, never. I know it is a reality. If you ask if I am everstaggered by the inconsistencies of professing Christians, I say yes, I am often made heartsick by them; butheartsickness always makes me run to Christ, and one good look at Him pacifies me. This is in fact mypanacea for every ill; and as to my own sinfulness, that would certainly overwhelm me if I spent much timein looking at it. But it is a monster whose face I do not love to see; I turn from its hideousness to the beautyof His face who sins not, and the sight of yon lovely Man ravishes me. But at your age I did this only by fitsand starts, and suffered as you do. So I know how to feel for you, and what to ask for you. God purposelysickens us of man and of self, that we may learn to look long at Jesus.Elizabeth Prentiss

    G OD SPEAKS TO H IS P EOPLE T HROUGH H IS W ORD The Bible is the means by which God graciously reveals Himself to His peopleso we listen, read, and study with expectanthearts. God particularly entreats us in His Word to sing Psalms. And while all Scripture is appropriate for hymns and spiritualsongs, there is a specific exhortation for us to make use of the Psalter as the Churchs songbook.

    Scripture ReadingIsaiah 60: 1-5

    Arise, shine, for your light has come,and the glory of the Lord has risen upon you.

    For behold, darkness shall cover the earth,and thick darkness the peoples;

    but the Lord will arise upon you,and His glory will be seen upon you.

    And nations shall come to your light,and kings to the brightness of your rising.

    Lift up your eyes all around, and see;they all gather together, they come to you;your sons shall come from afar,

    and your daughters shall be carried on the hip.Then you shall see and be radiant;

    your heart shall thrill and exult.

    Elder: This is the Word of the Lord.All: Thanks be to God.

    Text: Greek Hymn, Tr John Brownlie, 1859-1925; Music: MORNING SONG , Kentucky Harmony, 1816.

    Sacrament of Baptism (Second Service) Candice Victoria Vasquez and her daughters:

    Remyalynn Victoria Saldaa and Joelle Lulani Saldaa

    Covenant baptism is instituted by the Lord Jesus as a sign and seal of the covenant of His graceand thus of the promiseof our ingrafting to Him, of our union with Him, of our adoption by Him, and our regeneration in Him. This is awonderful promise made to believers and their childrenthus showing us that every member of the covenant community is

    given access to His means of grace in the visible Church. As a result, all of us who are present at a baptismal service oughtto look back to our own baptismto repent of our sins, to stir up our faith, and to grow in our callings together. Just asevery worship service is a call to covenant renewal, every baptism is a call to revive our obedience , our accountability ,and our love for Jesus.

    For to you is the promise, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord ourGod shall call unto him . And I will establish my covenant between me and you and your seed after you throughouttheir generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto you and to your seed after you. Therefore, believe onthe Lord Jesus, and you shall be saved, you and your house . (Acts 2:39; Gen. 17:7; Acts 16:31)

    1. Candice, do you acknowledge your own, as well as Remyalynn's and Joelle's, need of the cleansing blood of Jesus

    Christ and the renewing grace of the Holy Spirit?2. Do you claim Gods covenant promises for yourself and your daughters, and do you look in faith to the Lord Jesusand only to the Lord Jesusfor their salvation, just as you do for your own?3. Do you now consecrate yourself and your daughters to God; will you in humble reliance upon His sovereign gracelive a godly examplepraying with and for them, teaching them the good hope of the Gospel, opening to them thetruth of the Scriptures, and striving by every means of grace God provides, to bring them up in the nurture andadmonition of the Lord?

    Will you as a covenant community joyously commit to assisting the Vasquez family in the good work of discipleship and Christian nurture of her daughters?

    The Reading of the WordPhilippians 1:1-2Paul and Timothy, servants of Christ Jesus,

    To all the saints in Christ Jesus who are at Philippi, with the overseers and deacons:Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

    G OD C ALLS H IS P EOPLE TO C ONFESSION , R EPENTANCE , AND R ECONCILIATION The People of God respond to His Word by confessing their sins, repenting of their sinful ways, and seeking Gods favor through the reconciling work of Jesus, the Son of God.

    Confession of SinJames 4:4; Romans 3:22-26Pastor: Lord, we come confessing. We know that friendship with the world is enmity with God.

    We know that whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.

    All: For there is no distinction: all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified only by His grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.

    Pastor: God put Jesus forward as a propitiation by His blood, to be received by faith.

    All: This was to show Gods righteousness, because in His divine forbearanceHe had passed over former sins.

    Pastor: It was to show his righteousness at the present time,so that He might be both the just and the justifier.

    All: And thus, He has completely redeemed the one who has faith in Jesus.

    Assurance of PardonPsalm 85: 8-12Let us hear what God the Lord will speak, for He will speak peace to His people, to His saints; Surely Hissalvation is near to those who fear Him, that glory may dwell in the land. Resources for Family WorshipThe following readings and resources are presented here to help prepare your hearts and the hearts of your children for worship throughout the week and for next Sunday.

    Next Sundays Sermon We will continue in our new series in Pauls letter to the Philippians with a study of 1:3-8.

    Philippians 1:3-8

    I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine for you all making my prayerwith joy, because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now. And I am sure of this, thathe who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ. It is right for me tofeel this way about you all, because I hold you in my heart, for you are all partakers with me of grace, both inmy imprisonment and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel. For God is my witness, how I yearnfor you all with the affection of Christ Jesus.
