Chairperson of the Board
Rev. Faan MyBurgh
in society with the appropriate help. I also express our appreciation to individuals,
organisations and, businesses, big and small, who have all generously supported
Amcare.
The last year has seen a continuation of exploring a new direction for Amcare and
taking steps to implement what is required with regards to this new direction. To this
effect we have had various in-depth consultative sessions on our own as well as with
visiting people to better discern and implement the way forward for Amcare. The
implementation of some of the outcomes of these various sessions will only be seen in
the future, for instance, the rebranding of the organisation which can only be fully
implemented the following year. However, let me highlight a few notable achievements.
Operationally we also saw the finalisation of the closing down of the clinic giving our
Social Work component much needed office space and thus strengthening their work
on the premises as well as out in the field. We are also grateful to the various
government departments for their invaluable assistance toward the work of Amcare.
We were the recipients of a Excellence Award in VEP services in Gauteng, awarded by
Department of Social Development.
We continued to work with Stepping Stone Hospice to enable them to grow in their
work as a hospice. We are grateful that we could yield a more positive result as far as
our finances are concerned for this period. We give thanks to the Finance Committee
for their sterling work. As far as the Board is concerned Board members took on
portfolios and the Board is now to a greater degree available as a resource for
managers.
As an organisation we continue to do what we believe our business is about, namely,
reaching the most vulnerable in society with the appropriate help. To this end we will
continue to grow our work, especially taking our presence and help into the
communities.
I thank you and may I express my sincere appreciation to the General Manager Marihet
for her work in keeping everything together and developing to where we want to be in
order to meet the challenges not just of today, but of those of the future.
God bless

Impact the community but changing one
individuals life, and in turn impact significant others and a community.
Ecclesiastes 3 v 1
This verse has stood Amcare in its stead when
I took over the reins at the beginning of 2017.
The senior management, with the support of
the board of management, made strategic
decisions during April 2017, which re-directed
the course of the organization and
consolidated service rendering back to reaching the most vulnerable in our communities of
Alberton, Eden Park, Phola Park, Thokoza and Greenfields. Nonviable units, such as the sewing
centre and the Injabulo Clinic were closed during the first part of the financial year.
Despite this, we were still able to celebrate several wins. Amongst them was Amcare’s 15-year anniversary. During the
event we were able to track the impact that the organization has had on the lives of victims of domestic violence, adults
and children infected and affected by HIV/AIDS and the elderly over the course of 15 years.
We were able to move the whole social work component out of the previously
converted garages to the former Clinic premises. The building was re-named in a
blessings ceremony to Ethembeni (Place of Hope) and social work staff are able to
render professional services from proper offices and no longer do intake from
underneath a tree. We were also able to expand our services to people infected and
affected by HIV/AIDS to the communities of Greenfields and Thokoza. This move was
made possible by the generosity of Thokoza Methodist Church and the Zamokuhle
crèche in Greenfields, who gave us small pieces of ground to squat on. For this we
would like to sincerely thank them. Through the donation received from Komatsu,
we were able to erect small offices on these premises and purchase our first proper
bakkie, new, out of the box, with cash.
During this period, our skills training kitchen trained 26 unemployed ladies from our
communities in basic catering and cooking skills. A highlight for our kitchen was
when we were approached by Dukathole High School to train three of their boys in
the catering course.
A special commendation to the ground staff for their wholehearted support and
commitment to overhaul our grounds and take on new challenges.
I would like to highlight the old and celebrate new partnerships that Amcare was able
to garner over the past financial year, ranging from the Gauteng Department of Social
Development (both regional and provincial); to the myriad faith-based organizations
such as the Dare-to-Care Foundation, the Muslim Woman’s League, Ligstad and
Lewensentrum; to service organisations such as the Lions Club, Albion Cycling Club,
the Freemasons, Hogs, Doc Cycling club, Germiston Wheelers., to big corporations
such as Widney Transport Components, Joy Global Foundation, Bidvest/Blue Marine,
BP Pick ‘n Pay New Market, Checkers Mall of the South and Glenvista and individual
volunteers that donate their time and treasure to the organization. Our heartfelt
thanks go to these organizations, business and individuals who enable us to reach the
most vulnerable. A specific word of thanks also goes to the Alberton Methodist,
Brackenhurst Methodist and Eden Park Methodist Churches for their continued
support of the Love Buckets initiatives and hosting the organization and its initiatives
on their premises.
Lastly, I would like to thank each member of the staff, who took up the gauntlet with
me to transform and re-direct the path of the organization to ultimately reach the
most vulnerable in our society through professional social work services and
enhancing skills development initiatives.
For everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven

Thank you Amcare for the support.
I now know that, I Susan Swart and my children Lucas, Jayden,
Chad and the other child Armand have rights and we will no
longer be abused, neglected, thrown around or trampled
because we know who we are and what we want to be in life.
And that no one can tell us otherwise.
I have learned that if I am in need to ask for help I must not be
afraid to tell someone that. If they are abusing or hurting us in
any way to stop it or we will take further steps and the law is
on our side, there are other ways to get out of this situation.
Like support groups and counselling.
Thank you for teaching me not to be afraid and that whatever
comes my way I can stand on my feet and face it eye to eye.
I am also grateful for not hiding and feeling ashamed anymore about what happened to me and that I
am sick because of it.
I still got a happy and long life in front of me and my children that needs me. I now know how to be a
good loving caring mother and that it is important to stay in touch with family for support and love.
Thanks for the shelter, food, clothes, nice Christmas and everything that goes with it.
Amcare, people you were very helpful and supportive. I
will still be working at my work put my children at school
support and love them.
And maybe find someone to love us in the future and to be
there for them as a father figure.
But for now I would still like to have counselling sessions
with my children and maybe get their father involved also.
I think it would teach him what I have learned so far
maybe we could be able to work something out for the
fortune.
Very thanks
Susan and the children.
I am writing this letter to you on behalf of the rest of my
family to express our gratitude to you, for agreeing to be our
financial supporters from July 2017
As a family we lived in desperation because we struggled to
provide for ourselves the most essential need and wants,
such as food, clothing and education. It has been a terrible
condition as I and 3 siblings are being raised by a single
mother who is currently unemployed and having to depend
only on the social grant she receives for the other two
children. I would like to give much thanks to you as Widney
for having financially supported us as a family, for if we had
not received your help we would have lost all confidence
and hope to continue our lives. Now we feel warmth and are
extremely honoured with your generous support. Through
Amcare's assistance you gave given us loved and restored
our hope. Your kindness means a lot to us, as great as a
mountain.
Sponsoring the studies is not an easy take to do but as for you, you did very well on your side. I am
the first one I am my family to attend university and in my Second year at UNISA studying education.
My family are no longer starving as Amcare buys and delivers the groceries every month. I am happy
that my mom now does rest do to not having the stress about buying us good clothing for that is all
been done through Widney. Last but not least I am very glad that my younger sister has been placed
at a school where she receives good physical training and knowledge, well there is hope for a brighter
future for her.
Growing up in a underprivileged community has not only offered finical and academic challenges, but
also helped me to realise the value of a higher education. Your sponsorship has convinced me to
believe that my dream to be able to serve in an educational position will come true. My educational
pursuits would not be possible without you magnificent support from Widney and Amcare.
Thank you for enabling this opportunity

AMCARE – ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING HELD 4/9/2018
TREASURERS REPORT
As noted in the auditor’s report, income was down by close on R1M.
We did however manage our expenditure accordingly, resulting in a surplus of R50,400 (R673,150).
Amcare, compared to the recent past-is in a good space with year-end cash on hand standing at R1.4M.
Much reliance is still placed on Government Funding and given the state of the economy, the rest of 2018 to March year end, is not going to be easy.
We do however have the right team in place and look forward, in faith, to the challenges that lie ahead.
To the auditors, thank you for your contribution, it is really appreciated.
