Thanks to all the VFW Post 2503 members and Auxiliary members and the Canteen crew who all went the extra-mile to pull off a very successful Saint Patrick’s Day at the Post. And another BIG THANKS goes to Linda Humphrey and her crew of volunteers who cooked and served the city’s best corned beef and cabbage. However, the Post is in need of a new Kitchen Manager. Call Tom Penke at 402-330-6860 for more information if you are interested. Hours and pay are negotiable. The District 10 Award Banquet and Ceremony for the Voice of Democracy and Patriots Pen winners will be April 8th at 12:30 pm. Following the Banquet, the District 10 meeting will be held. Saturday, April 21st is Post clean-up day. The list of the cleaning projects to be done can be seen at 10 am that Saturday morning. Then you can volunteer to help out on the one of your choice. If you can’t make it to the Post by 10 am, you are welcome to help out at any time you can get here. Finally, don’t forget about the new construction at the VA Hospital. It will eliminate almost half of the available parking spots. So plan to arrive extra-early at your future VA Hospital appointments in order to have enough time to find parking. Ricky L. The meeting is April 19 th and a very important one. Please plan to attend. Also District 10 is holding a meeting April 8 th at the Post. At that meeting will be the Voice of Democracy and Patriotic Pen winners. The meeting is at 12:30. There will be a potluck dinner with District 10 supplying chicken, and we ask members to bring a side dish. And yes there will be nominations for elections of officers also.     SEWING LADIES The VFW Post 2503 Sewing Ladies always welcome new members to

    create items to be distributed to the Eastern Nebraska Veterans

    Home, the VA Hospital, Lutheran Family Service, and other nursing

    homes and hospitals.

    Assistance is welcomed for various sewing projects:

    Lap Robes, Bibs, Fleece Cancer Hats, and Neck pillows.

    Donations of cotton cloth materials are appreciated as

    well as financial assistance to support the purchase of

    needed sewing materials.

    on the fun. It really is!

We are looking forward to representing VFW Post 2503 for the rest of the year. We still are in a need for new members for the Honor Guard.

    Rabbits usually give birth to a big litter of babies (called kittens), so they became the symbol of new life. Legend has it that the Easter bunny lays, decorates, and hides eggs as they are also a symbol of new life.

    Another bit of info, the egg was a symbol of the rebirth of the Earth in pre-Christian celebrations of spring. However, the Easter egg itself was defined by early Christians as an Easter symbol of the resurrection of Jesus: the egg symbol

    was likened to the tomb from which Christ arose.

    I had always wondered about the tradition of the Easter egg. Well if the computer had it right, now I guess I know.

    VA HOSPITAL PARKING CHANGES

    April 2 road closures and parking adjustments on Omaha VA Medical Center campus to prepare for

    construction of Ambulatory Care Center.

    The road closures impact Nimitz Drive, the road that connects Woolworth Avenue to the hospital’s main

    entrance and parking lots, and Puller Drive, the road that connects Center Street to the main entrance.

    The closures will be permanent.

    The Post is selling Memorial Bricks around the memorial walk and flag. Memorial Bricks are being sold by Post 2503 to be

    put around the outside of the Memorial flag pole. These bricks will cost $60.00 each. They will be for VFW, Auxiliary, AMVET & Auxiliary members, their families, and people they sponsor. They will be memorials for living or deceased people. They will be ordered once a year on April 1st, for installation by Memorial Day each year. Max 16 spaces per line, 3 lines, and cost $60.00 per brick.

Spread the word to your friends and family. The Post looks great decorated for weddings, birthdays, and graduation parties, too.

    AUXILIARY NEWS The Auxiliary thanks everyone who baked items for the St.

    Patrick’s Day pies and cakes sale. The Raffle was a success,

    too. A thank you to Garland Grau and Mary O’Dea for

    donating the Afghans.

    This was one of the best bake sales we’ve had at The Post.
