A BIG THANK YOU to those who turned out on the last Saturday in September for the Post Clean-Up Day. The participants were Ross Winn, Sharon Cooper, Don Hansen, Jan and Randy Davis, Ron Karm, Leigh Freeman, Jim Sorensen and his hired help Dan Harrell. Another BIG THANKS, also, to the Auxiliary for donating $300 for the needed plane repair. A reminder to all veterans, the Post will have a spaghetti dinner on Veterans Day, Saturday, November 11, from noon to 7 pm. Also, the Auxiliary will be selling desserts. And we could sure use some kitchen volunteers for that special day for veterans. The Post will be closed on Thanksgiving day, Thursday, No- vember 23rd. Don’t forget to patronize the Freddy’s Frozen Custard and Steakburgers at 7419 Dodge Street because the money its customers put in the donation box for veterans goes to VFW Post 2503. The Post is still in need of kitchen vol- unteers for Hamburger Night and Taco Night. Also, check out our Special Menu Hamburger Night on November 15th. And we are still in need of volunteers to become Honor Guard members. Any VFW Post 2503 member who would like to join the Post Honor and Color Guard, please contact Tom Penke at 402-330- 6860. Ricky L. Johnson, Post Commander Honor Guard Meeting 2nd Thursday every month 7:00 pm From the Auxiliary President Hello Auxiliary Members, First I would like to mention that some of you still have not received your new membership cards. As of now, National is printing the sec- ond round of cards because, as I mentioned before, the Auxiliary has changed. We now are VFW Auxiliary, not Ladies Auxiliary. This means if your spouse is a VFW member, you, as her husband, can be- come a member of the Auxiliary. The same goes for veterans who are sons and daughters and grandfathers or grandmothers, if any of these are VFW members you can join the Auxiliary. Our membership level is currently at 83%. To the life members: You are going to receive a new Life card. There were several complaints about the recently issued cards not being sturdy enough. So National is re-issuing Life cards. Important information to look for: Be sure when you receive cor- respondence from National that you look carefully at it. Some folks think it’s junk mail when it is actually your new card inside. Again, I ask for your patience. The membership cards come from National. If you have sent in your dues, the treasurer has noted that you have paid, and the card you now carry is good until you receive your new one. The Auxiliary is looking to fill some of the officer positions for next year. If these offices are not filled, the Auxiliary will have to fold. We are the largest Auxiliary in the state, and we need new and young members to keep this Auxiliary going. By being the largest Auxiliary, that means we have the most voices to our Senators and Congressmen, pertaining to the issues of our Veterans. So please don’t let our Auxil- iary and Veterans down. The Auxiliary will be having its annual bake sale along with the Post 2503 Veterans Day spaghetti dinner at noon to 7 pm. So if you want to donate goodies for the bake sale, GREAT! Then stay for a good dinner. The Craft Fair is November 18. Lunch will be available for a small charge. See the bake sale information for that day, too. Come out for some Christmas shopping and have a good time. Loyally submitted, Lynn Krause President Zeta Anderson Auxiliary

From the Auxiliary President

Hello Auxiliary Members, First I would like to mention that some of you still have not received

your new membership cards. As of now, National is printing the sec-

ond round of cards because, as I mentioned before, the Auxiliary has

changed. We now are VFW Auxiliary, not Ladies Auxiliary. This

means if your spouse is a VFW member, you, as her husband, can be-

come a member of the Auxiliary. The same goes for veterans who are

sons and daughters and grandfathers or grandmothers, if any of these

are VFW members you can join the Auxiliary. Our membership level

is currently at 83%.

To the life members: You are going to receive a new Life card.

There were several complaints about the recently issued cards not

being sturdy enough. So National is re-issuing Life cards.

Important information to look for: Be sure when you receive cor -

respondence from National that you look carefully at it. Some folks

think it’s junk mail when it is actually your new card inside. Again, I

ask for your patience. The membership cards come from National. If

you have sent in your dues, the treasurer has noted that you have paid,

and the card you now carry is good until you receive your new one.

The Auxiliary is looking to fill some of the officer positions for next

year. If these offices are not filled, the Auxiliary will have to fold.

We are the largest Auxiliary in the state, and we need new and young

members to keep this Auxiliary going. By being the largest Auxiliary,

that means we have the most voices to our Senators and Congressmen,

pertaining to the issues of our Veterans. So please don’t let our Auxil-

iary and Veterans down.

The Auxiliary will be having its annual bake sale along with the Post

2503 Veterans Day spaghetti dinner at noon to 7 pm. So if you want to

donate goodies for the bake sale, GREAT! Then stay for a good dinner.

The Craft Fair is November 18. Lunch will be available for a small

charge. See the bake sale information for that day, too. Come out for

some Christmas shopping and have a good time.

The National Home community is open to families of

active-duty military personnel, veterans and – recognizing

that the effects of war can last for generations - descend-

ants of members of the VFW and its Auxiliary. The family

can be one or both parents with one or more children.

War takes a terrible toll on American military and veteran

Emotional wounds, financial stress, fractured family rela-

tionships, hopelessness and more can often be the outcome

for families with a parent serving our country – now, re-

cently or from earlier generations.

Families are welcomed to our small-town community

where they may live for up to 4 years. They work to identi-

fy what they need and want to accomplish, during which

time they are provided:

HOUSING
