Jolly Buoy Island
Jolly Buoy is the Snorkeling hub of India. The best corals and sea life I have seen
till date in crystal clear water at its shallowest. The place is a paradise on earth.
The small island is out of a story book which you reach after an adventure
voyage and wish to spend a lifetime upon. It is so pretty that I wish could buy it.
Step onto one of the most beautiful beaches
youve ever seen. Take a deep breath in. Yes,
this is what a vacation is all about.
There are 365 beaches in Antigua, one for
each day of the year, but Jolly Beach Resort & Spa is blessed to be located on
Antiguas best beach with turquoise waters and white sand stretching for a
mile.

Chidiya Tapu Biological Park
The Chidiya Tapu Biological Park (Bird Island Biological Park) came into
existence in 2001 with the aim to conserve and study endemic and endangered
species of animals found in the Andaman and Nicobar islands. Since then the
park has been a centre for biodiversity and conservation where one can catch a
glimpse of the rich fauna of the islands.
The plan for the park has been meticulously laid out to span over 20 years and
three phases, of which only one phase is currently open to public.
A green and dense jungle like environment cleverly recreates the natural habitat
of the animals here. Sprawled over 40 hectares, the park is covered with a
variety of plant, right from the majestic Mahuas to the exquisite Padauks. While
walking through this jungle, one would be able to catch a glimpse of a variety of
birds flying around freely. Other than birds you could spot wild pigs as well as
barking deer and spotted deer. Those fascinated with reptiles would enjoy the
saltwater crocodile spotting.
The future phases will see the park housing an aquarium, insectariums, a reptile
house, butterfly house and a walk in Aviary. It sure is something to look forward to.
Wandoor Beach
Situated 25kms east of Port Blair, Wandoor beach is famous amongst tourists
and locals alike. The picturesque scenery of the beach makes it ideal for
swimming and coral sighting. With clean blue water contrasting beautifully
against the dried trees, this beach is also equipped with neatly constructed
benches and changing rooms for your convenience. The trees, uprooted during
the 2006 Tsunami, make for scenic pictures.
If youre the adventure junkie, then a short
trek to the natural caves here is just the
thing for you. The caves, formed over decades, have been carved by fierce high
tides that surround the beach. The challenging trek is best taken up in the
morning because the tides are low and youre able to get back by early evening.
Overall, the calm and beautiful scenes of Wandoor beach are worth a visit for a
soothing experience with the cave trek adding just the right amount of
adrenaline.

Samudrika Marine Museum
History, Geography, anthropology, . and the beautiful marine life ! No other
place brings together all of these aspects of the Andaman Islands as well as
Samudrika , the Naval Marine Museum.
The museum has been thoughtfully divided into five different rooms, each of
them showcasing a different facet of the Andaman Islands. A massive blue
whale, in its skeletal form of course, greets you as you enter the museum.
Did you know that Andaman apparently has been named after Lord Hanuman or
Handuman as they refer to him here? From its name to how it came to be
formed, the first room deals with the geographical history of the islands.
The second and third rooms will be quite a delight for the young and the old
alike. An aquarium in the second room is teeming with fishes of all shapes and
sizes, from a parrot fish to the rare and venomous species of stone fish. The
third room on the other hand exhibits corals, which the islands are quite
famous for. In addition to learning more about these beautiful marine
formations, one can also know about the sites to spot them. A fourth room
houses an extensive display of shells. Thus giving one a complete sense of the
marine life of the Andamans.
As important as the marine life is to the Andamans, one cant leave the
museum without visiting the fifth room. Here one will find information about the tribal life in the islands along
with a display of interesting specimens of snakes and butterflies. You should visit the curio shop in case you want
to take back a few souvenirs of your trip here.
North Bay Island Andaman
Located nearer to Phoenix jetty of Port Blair, this beach is also very famous for
under water corals. Snorkeling and scuba diving is available. All sort os facilities
are available for the people like food, clothes for rent, lockers, huts for taking
rest etc... The one day package trip includes North Bay, Viper Island and Ross
Island. Some travelers prefer to stay more time in North Bay to enjoy the sea
corals through snorkeling and scuba diving. Normal trip package goes with Viper
island first, North bay next and Ross island last. Unlike Jolly buoy and Red skin
beaches, the crowd in North Bay coral beach is more. People come here in large
number because of the facilities available to enjoy the beach play. Locker
almirahs arrangement is available to store the valuables inside. There are huts to take shelter for those who don't
want to play in the beach.

Red Skin Island
Red Skin Island and Jolly Buoy Island lie next to each other and boast of rich
under water marine life.
Usually, tourists go to Jolly Buoy in the peak season but as rainy season
approaches, the weather makes the commute difficult as Jolly Buoy falls in
open sea area and then the tourists are taken to Red Skin Island.
I happened to go to Red Skin during one of such times when the weather was
not good for going to Jolly Buoy so our operator took us to Red Skin instead.
Yes, even though I live here, I also travel by tour agents just to have a taste of our tourism department works here.
And like many of the tourists who spend thousands to have a vacation here, I was disappointed too.
As we approached Red Skin, I could see a small island, very small Island with a very narrow beach. On that narrow
yet white sandy beach, I could see hundreds of tourists standing on the beach and hundreds playing in the sea. My
heart thumped at the sight. I did not step out of my boat as I could see that there was barely some space on the
beach to stand!

The legacy of Chatham began in the year 1789, when Lt. Archibald Blair landed
here with the aim to establish a Naval Base. He started the survey from
Chatham Island for establishing the British footholds in the Islands. Thus, Port
Blair became the starting point of various activities to develop the Islands as a
safe place to deport hard-core convicts and to develop the Harbour base. The
100 mtrs long Chatham Bridge connects Port Blair with Chatham Island. This
historic bridge was initially constructed out of timber. Later, it was renovated
to a modern bridge with concrete structures, which exists today.

Islands in 1789. The vessel, it is believed, met with an accident and its wreckage was found near the island.

Mini Zoo
This is actually an attraction for children of these islands. Here there is no
chance of seeing wild animals or even some rare pet animals. The Mini Zoo fills
up the gap and satisfies the wants of the local people, particularly the children.
Mini Zoo is situated in Port Blair and is about 2.5 kms, from Port Blair on the

Imperial Pigeons, Parakeets, Andaman Cuckoos, Nicobar Cuckoos and Teals etc.

Zsi Museum (Zoological Survey of India)
The Zsi Museum is under the Zoological Survey of India and has a wide range
of animals and insect species. Various sponges, corals from the sea, insects of
the Andaman and other rare and extinct species can be found.
The Zsi Museum is located near the Andaman Teal House and has a research
library for bird lovers, aquatic life enthusiasts and forest insect researchers
In the same building as Zoological Survey of India office, this museum gives you
a sneak-peek into the diverse variety of flora and fauna that Andaman is home
to. In addition to marine life, the museum houses other mammals, reptiles and
birds quite characteristic of the islands.
Cellular Jail
The Cellular Jail, also known as Kala Pani situated in the Andaman and Nicobar
Islands (India). The prison was known to house many notable Indian activists
during the struggle for India's independence. The Cellular Jail is one of the
murkiest chapters in the history of the colonial rule in India. The construction of
the prison started in 1896 and was completed in 1906. But the history of using
the Andaman Island as a prison dates back to the Indian rebellion of 1857. The
bricks used to build the building were brought from Burma, known today as
Myanmar. The penal settlement established in Andaman by the British after the
First War of Independence in 1857 was the beginning of the agonizing story of freedom fighters in the massive and
awful jails at Viper Island followed by the Cellular Jail. The patriots who raised their voice against the British Raj
were sent to this Jail, where many perished.
The cellular jail, so known due to its isolated cells, was spread across seven wings, of which only three wings
remain today. The well-painted building with its green gardens is quite a contrast to what one might imagine a site
of many unspoken tortures would look like.
Only on a visit to this place can one understand why this prison had been turned into national memorial. It is a long
standing reminder that the freedom we so casually carry is a gift to us by these courageous men.

Ross Island
The Ross Island is controlled by the Indian navy, which requires every visitor to
sign in on entering. It was during the British rule that the island was developed
to a perfect township. Many reminiscent of old British regime are still alive in
this stunning Island.
The Ross Island is about 2 km east of Port Blair and can be reached by a short
boat ride from Phoenix Bay Jetty. The island presently houses the ruins of old
buildings like Ballroom, Chief Commissioner's House, Govt. House, Church,
Hospital, Bakery, Press, Swimming Pool and Troop Barracks, all in dilapidated
condition, reminiscent of the old British regime.
Ever since Dr. James Pattison Walker arrived in Port Blair aboard the East India
Company's steam frigate 'Senuramis' on 10 March 1858, this island remained
under British occupation till 1942. From 1942 to 1945, the island was under the
occupation of Japanese. However, the allies reoccupied the island in 1945 and
later abandoned it. During British occupation, this island was the seat of power
of the British.
