nt Year 11 History students visit London!

Students left school on Friday 15th December for a two day trip to London. They

braved the rain and walked to Downing Street, then visited the underground WW2

Cabinet War Rooms, saw the West End show “Billy Elliot”, flew on the London Eye and

visited the Holocaust Exhibition in the Imperial War Museum. No wonder the staff

were tired!

A great trip – well done Year 11!

Activities Week Reminder

If you haven‟t handed in your Activities Week form yet, although the deadline is Thursday the 14th February, you

There is now a box in reception for you to put your forms in, so it can be handed in anytime!

sure you contact the school to update our contact details.

Please contact Mrs Lewis or Mrs Brooking.

Great news for Aaron

Aaron Ebling, a past student of Pool Academy has been offered an audition at the Guildford School of Acting in

London! Whilst at school he was very shy with little confidence but he managed to achieve a grade B at GCSE

Drama through tremendous hard work and now he is doing very well for himself. We are very proud of what

our students achieve.

The Brigade A first for young people in Redruth. Does your child enjoy art and crafts, playing sport and other games? Would

you like your child to develop skills and confidence whilst having fun with friends?

If the answer is yes, why not come along with your child to the Brigade—1st Redruth BB Company any Thursday evening at Redruth Methodist Church (Wesley Buildings) from 6:30 pm to join us for an evening to find out more? Introductory sessions are free, after this it is just £1 per evening session per child. We have separate activities aimed at different age groups (4-8, 8-11, 11-15 and 15+) and the Brigade is open to membership for both boys

and girls.

Find out more from our website www.1stRedruthBB.co.uk or find

us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter! @1stRedruthBB.

A reminder for parents and carers

Please can you ensure that all school uniform, PE kit and other items of clothing/equipment are clearly marked with your son‟s/daughter‟s name. This will help us ensure that we return lost

items to their rightful owners.

Unfortunately, over the course of each school term, there is a large collection of unmarked, unclaimed items accumulating in „lost property‟.

U15’s Girls Cup Football:

The girls travelled to Cape Cornwall School on Tuesday

afternoon for the next round of the cup competition.

The girls had to adjust their plan, having been told in the morning that they would be playing on grass and

not astro/3G and no floodlights.

The girls went ahead from a free kick taken by Lucy Walters, following a bad tackle on Yasmin Walters, who was unable to take any further part in the game.

That was the score at half time.

With light fading and only minutes left on the clock, Cape Cornwall equalised and the match went into extra time. Although we dominated the match, no further goals were forthcoming, so the match was to be decided on penalties. Beth Ackerley, goalkeeper, made some excellent saves in very poor light and she also went on to score a penalty. The game was still tied on goals after the elected penalties so it went into knockout penalties, with Cape Cornwall coming out on

top.

GB Rowing conduct a Talent-spotting day

GB Rowing conducted a talent-spotting day last Friday and we took 5 of our

talented year 10/11s along for a trial. The only requirement was that they were

5 feet 10 (girls) or 6 feet 2 (boys)!

Height, weight and wingspan were measured, a questionnaire filled out and then

Kim Jacka, Sarah Oettinger, Lydia Curnow, Jordan Walklett and Harry Hall went

into action! There were 3 power output tests, measuring an average of 3 full-out

efforts on seated row, bench press and leg press resistance machines. Then they

performed a test to the limit on the cross-trainer. No rowing involved (!), but an

interesting hour. Apparently GB Rowing will be happy if they find one high

potential recruit from 2 days in Cornwall, so we're not getting our hopes up too

high, but all 5 were excellent in both attitude and performance.

Pool Academy's community links with local sports clubs are stronger than ever.

This week we're featuring our students seeking to improve their athletics at Cornwall Athletic Club. Last Sunday 4

students journeyed up on a school minibus to Westward Ho! on Devon's north coast for a Westward League X-C

and helped the club to top 3 positions in all age groups. Martha Carlisle, Ella Buzza and Jamie Canavan all

competed with distinction in the U15 combined race, while Carl Buzza was in the U13 boys event.

Other Pool students training with CAC at present in all sorts of athletic

events, are Harry Stephens, Solomon Woodard, Harry Cantellow, Jordan

Willoughby. Tom Wills, Jordan Walklett and Tammy Kearney, with

specialities ranging from distance running, through sprinting to javelin,

triple jump and pole vault.

The main club evening is Tuesday, with most events/ages training for an

hour between 6 and 8pm, either in the Carn Brea Leisure Centre sports

hall or outside on the track. Any age/standards are welcome.
