Olympic/Paralympic Legacy inspires

the next generation Helen Glover, Olympic Champion in the womens Rowing Pairs, visited last week and spoke to

the whole school within assembly.

We are fortunate enough to have an ex-member of team GB on our staff, namely Dave Buzza

who ran on many occasions at National, European, Commonwealth and World Championships.

He contacted Helen who was a member of Cornwall AC in her youth and invited her into

school to meet staff and students and show her Gold Medal.

Whilst here Helen spoke to the school about her preparations for London, her attitude to

studies and generally a positive outlook on life. She was interviewed by members of the

Student Leadership Team and had photos taken with all of our Sports Day winners. For the last

three years Pool Academy has immersed itself in the seven values of the London 2012 games.

The school has hosted huge Primary School events at Heartlands and has featured on BBC spot-

light and Westcountry News. Also the recent trip to the Olympic Park by four students to watch

David Weir (4 golds) and Oscar Pistorius (Bladerunner) was awe inspiring and capped off a

memorable Olympic Year.

We are looking to continue this legacy through sport and across the whole school with the

values of Inspiration, Friendship, Courage, Determination, Equality, Excellence and Respect.

After two postponed sports days due to rain, this was definitely third time lucky. The sun was shining down

on every student competing for their tutor group including cheerleading, obstacle race, banners, tug of war

alongside more traditional track and field events.

The new year sevens were also involved in an alternative sports day back at school run by the sports

students from Cornwall College.

From individual winners and best supported tutor groups through to the designers of flags and banners,

everyone participated in a highly successful day. Many thanks must go to students and staff for their

efforts.

The boys played their first rugby fixture against Camborne last Thursday with

mixed results

Year 7s drew 10-10 in their first match, Year 9s won 31-17 and Year 8s &

Year10s lost.

Do you have complete Scrabble sets you know longer use?

Year 10 would like to start 'scrabble teams', as part of their literacy in tutor time plan.

If you have any sets at home in cupboards or tucked away in lofts that you are willing

to donate please hand them in at reception for the attention of Mrs Wills
