Politecnico di Torino Why POLITO? I have always been fascinated in Italy and it’s laid back culture. One of the main reasons for doing your exchange at POLTIO is because of the beautiful city and the kind people living in it. Turin has a similar size to Stockholm, there is a wide range of activities in the city, but it’s not crowded enough to feel overwhelmed. e people possess a casual attitude towards most situations, which you really learn to appreciate. Further, if you like football, this city can offer you incredible experiences since it’s the home town of not only one, but two football clubs in Serie A, Juventus and FC Torino. Also, Turin is the origin city of Fiat, which have resulted in advanced and well-repetitioned automotive engineering programs. Studies At KTH, I study Industrial Management which was a great fit to POLTIO’s master program Engineering and Management, providing me with many opportunities of courses matching both my program and interest. e academic calendar differs from Sweden, as the first semester spreads from September to February and the second semester from March to July. ere are no mid-semester exams, all exams are placed at the end of the semester. Further, the re-exams are always placed just weeks aſter the first exam, which gives you a second About Turin As you might think, the Italian food is wonderful and the prices for both food and beverages are lower than in Sweden. A tradition in Turin is to have Apertivo, which is the concept of having a drink and some finger food prior the dinner. Since Italians normally eat dinner very late, Apertivo is a perfect way to start the evening. A lot of people, besides the ones in university, oſten have very limited abilities in English. However, despite their lacking skills in English most people you come across are very helpful and always make an effort to help you anyway (oſten by continuing speaking Italian even aſter you told them that you don’t understand). About POLITO POLITO was founded in 1859 and has two campuses. e largest one is in central Torino and the other one, in Architecture, is called Castello del Valentino and is situated outside the city. e university has more than 33,000 students and a strong international environment. POLITO is ranked among the top ten technical universities in Europe. Spare time and student life Turin is situated in a wonderful location in the north of Italy with less than 2h drive to the Alps and 2h train to the Mediterranean. ere are a lot of bus tours going to the Italian, French and Swiss Alp resorts. It’s easy to book these trips by yourself, but there are also organized trips by Erasmus groups. Besides ski trips, the Erasmus groups are also continuously organizing various trips you can sign up to. From Turin you can easily travel with train since Italy has a well-developed infrastructure network, offering many destinations with high-speed trains. For example, I visited Milano, Venice, Florence, Pisa, Cinque Terre and Rome. Close to Turin, there are also several vineyard districts to visit including Alba, Asti and Barolo. You should also go to at least one Serie A macth and experience fotball for real. chance the pass the exam. I was pleasantly surprised by the professors’ generally high level of English skills. is also applies to the students, as I had low expectations before arriving. is is probably due to the fact that the master program I joined was divided into two programs; one in English and one in Italian. e lectures are longer than in Sweden, between two and six hours, with a 10 minutes break every 1.5 hours.
