Our CompanyPolarcus is a pure play marine geophysical company with a pioneering environmental agenda, specializing in high-end towed streamer acquisition from Pole to Pole.

Our unique seismic fleet is at the forefront of maritime and seismic innovation, well positioned to meet the cur-rent and future demands of the industry. Our worldwide Contract service capabilities encompass conventional 3D surveys, broadband data acquisition, sophisticated wide and multi-azimuth projects, and high density 4D production surveys. To complement these services we are expanding our global Multi-Client Projects Library with several projects now available for data license or underway in the UK, Norway, and Africa. To comple-ment our marine services offering we have formed a partnership with the leading data processing company GX Technology to offer clients a full seismic data ser-vices solution, including on-board services and broad-band processing. Our operations are global and we aim to be the service provider of choice in areas of high environmental sensitivity including the Arctic Ocean.

The expansion of the industry into frontier and environ-mentally sensitive sea areas is today driving a much higher level of environmental compliance worldwide as new legislation on emissions to air and water are developed and introduced. Our ultra-modern fleet, in-vestments in “green” technologies within both maritime and seismic, and our commitment to a pioneering en-vironmental agenda will help our clients to work safely and efficiently within these constraints.

Our PeopleOne of our key strengths is our people. We have a well-respected and highly experienced team at Polar-cus with extensive knowledge of the seismic industry. We are directly employing office, marine, and seismic personnel who operate under one unified EHS&Q (En-vironment, Health, Safety, and Quality) management system. Our core values of Responsibility, Innovation and Excellence are well established in the Polarcus culture and we value candidates in our recruitment who desire to be part of our efforts to conduct our busi-ness in a ‘cleaner and greener’ manner.

Our Distinctive OfferingOur vision at Polarcus is to be a pioneer in an industry where the frontiers of seismic exploration are respon-sibly expanded without harm to our world. This vision is reflected throughout our service offering and made possible by our commitment to be at the leading edge of maritime and technological innovation. Our goal is to provide a world class service to our customers sup-ported by an ambitious and pioneering environmental agenda whereby we seek to minimize our environmen-tal footprint wherever possible through our maritime and seismic technology choices, our survey design and planning, and our operations.

Our FleetOur fleet comprises three distinct vessel classes from Ulstein Design AS, each incorporating the innovative ULSTEIN X-BOW® hull that provides for a smoother and more fuel efficient passage through water. We have one of the lowest environmental footprints in the industry backed by the Det Norske Veritas (DNV) CLEAN-DESIGN notation. Our vessels run on marine gas oil with low sulfur content and are fitted with exhaust catalysts for main engine exhaust lines in order to sub-stantially reduce the emissions of SOx, NOx, HC and soot. We use environmentally-responsible lubricants throughout, such as the latest Bio Range of lubricants from Castrol Marine. The vessels are constructed with a double hull hence there are no fuel tanks adjacent to the vessels external hull in order to reduce the risk of spillage into the environment. The adopted bilge water cleaning system will reduce contaminants to <5 ppm compared to typical shipping levels of 15 ppm.

The ULSTEIN SX133 and SX134 vessel classes have the high ice class classification ICE-1A/ICE-1A*, unique within the industry’s modern marine seismic fleet, enabling them to operate safely within the harsh Arctic environment. These vessels are also fitted with International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) first type-approved ballast water treatment system to stop the introduction of invasive marine species into the sea, a problem identified by IMO as one of the four great-est threats to the world’s oceans. To provide system redundancy whether operating in harsh environments such as the Arctic or in areas with infrastructure haz-ards such as producing oilfields the vessels all carry the DNV Dynamic Positioning class 2 notation (DYN-POS-AUTR) that will allow for continued safe steerage of the vessel in case of an engine or propeller failure. Noise and vibration levels have been substantially reduced, backed by DNV’s COMF-V(3) notation, to provide a quieter, safer work environment for the crew and an improved life of machinery and equipment. Ad-ditional safeguards against catastrophic events are further backed by DNV’s SF notation for controlled sta-bility and floatability.

CertificationsPolarcus holds the ISM Document of Compliance and we are certified to the ISPS standards. In addition our office and vessels have achieved DNV certification to the following internationally recognized standards; ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001.

No other geophysical company in the industry has undertaken such a project to have their Management System fully certified to the internationally recognized standards of ISM, ISPS, ISO and OSHAS. Uniquely in the seismic industry to date, the Company has se-cured the full suite of certification for the entire Polar-cus Group, including both maritime and seismic across the full Polarcus fleet of vessels.

Geo Excellence Each survey is unique and requires attention to details at the design stage to ensure success.

Polarcus acquisition geophysicists, both onshore and offshore, have extensive experience in the evaluation of survey design parameters with respect to a project’s geophysical objectives and operational environment.

They are prepared to work closely with our clients to provide the appropriate acquisition parameters and survey plan that optimizes efficiency whilst maintaining a very high level of data quality

Survey DesignTogether with the data processing and imaging spe-cialists at GX Technology, the Polarcus geophysicists review all technical aspects of an acquisition design to ensure that proper spatial and temporal sampling are applied for the anticipated imaging and attribute pro-cessing. Several suites of software tools are available to model all aspects of the acquisition system; from the generation of the source wavelet to expected propa-gation paths and effects to overall survey coverage. If potential problems are uncovered, suggestions will be put forward to modify the pertinent survey design parameters in order to ensure that the highest quality data is acquired.

Operational ExcellenceOnce a survey design has been finalized, the Polar-cus onshore geophysical QC manager ensures that all parameter information is accurately transmitted to the crew. The on-board Polarcus field geophysicists will then take responsibility to ensure the survey data is collected as per contract specifications and pertinent sequence-by-sequence and survey wide QC informa-tion is compiled and published to the project website on a daily basis.
