What is a podcast?

A podcast is an audio recording, which could be anything from a 10-sec sound to a 30-min radio show, stored

as an MP3 file that anybody can download.

How to make a podcast:

1. Download the free Audacity software (this is a sound/voice recording and editing program) at:

2. Download the LAME mp3 encoder- Allows Audacity to export MP3 files.

**Remember where you save this file because the first time you save an mp3 file, it will ask you to locate this

file.

First click on “Other Downloads.”

Then Click on “Windows.”

Now click on the “Lame MP3 Encoder” you need to download to convert audio to MP3 files.

3. Sign up for Gcast. This program allows you to publish your podcast for viewers to subscribe or listen to.

Click, “Sign up now it’s free.” Then Register for an account.

4. Record your voice. You can record your voice file for your podcast either using Audacity or by calling your

message in to Gcast (Gcast will give you the number to call).

To call in your podcast, click “Record by phone.” Sign up an choose a pin, click finished.

Now call the gcast number to record your podcast call. By Phone: Call 1-888-65-GCAST and follow the

directions on the phone to record your podcast. Click listen to your podcast.

** If you use Audacity you must, first record your podcast and save your voice file as an mp3 file. Audacity is

just like a tape recorder. Click the red circle button to begin recording, then the square to stop recording. You

must have a microphone to do this.

To save as an mp3 file, choose File, then Export as an MP3.

5. After recording from audacity, then you publish your podcast to your Gcast site. Just log in and then choose

upload new audio files. Choose browse to locate your mp3 voice file.

How to Publish your Podcast to a Webpage

1. Open your Gcast page. Then click on “Love this Podcast, Add it to…”

2. Then click on the embed code, Select All, Copy, (you will then paste this into your html code on your

webpage.)

3. Go to the site where you create your webpage. I will show how to paste it into a page created by

http://www.weebly.com/.

Drag the Custom HTML code box onto the screen then paste the Embed Code here. It will automatically

embed your podcast player. When you are finished it looks like this.
