Poached Pears Slide 2 We will learn to use a potato peeler correctly and safely. We will poach the pears on the top of the cooker safely. We will see how a piece of fruit can make a healthy and attractive dessert. Slide 3 Poached Pears and Fruit Coulis Ingredients 2 pears 50g sugar 300 mls water 100g Raspberries or Forest Fruits 2 x 15 ml spoons icing sugar Slide 4 Poached Pears Step 1 Put the sugar and water in a pan. Bring to boil then simmer by turning the ring down to number 1. Slide 5 Poached Pears Step 2 Wash the fruit then carefully peel with a potato peeler Slide 6 Poached Pears Step 3 Place the pears into the pan of simmering syrup and poach for 10 minutes, or until the pears are soft when tested with a sharp knife. Turn the pears over occasionally. Slide 7 Poached Pears Step 4 Remove fruit from syrup using a draining spoon and leave to cool. Cut a small piece off the bottom of each pear to make it flat. Slide 8 Poached Pears Step 5 Put raspberries and icing sugar into a small bowl and mash down to a puree with a fork. Sieve the raspberry sauce into another bowl to get rid of the seeds. Slide 9 Poached Pears Step 6 Place the pears on individual serving dishes and pour a little of the raspberry sauce over the pear and the rest on the plate. Garnish with extra fruit and mint leaves
