A comprehensive Q&A with some of the best wedding photographers in and around the city…

Scott A. Levine:

Keep in mind that photography is a very subjective medium. Which means you want a photographer not only possessing talent, but with a true love for the art form. Many people are attracted by low cost photographers, which are the ones that will just do the bare minimum. Unfortunately this can leave a bride and groom with very little cal whole-sale club solely for the lowest price possible. Your wedding day is more than just a way to celebrate one of the biggest days in your lives, it is also a chronicle, a visual history of your family and friends locked in time for you and your great, great, great grandchildren to enjoy. You should consider photography an investment in the future and not just something that needs to get checked off the “Things to Do” list.

What are some tips when considering a

photographer for the wedding?

Brian Phillips Photography:

As with every aspect of your wedding, this is something for you to decide The short answer is yes; both you and your photog-rapher should take part in this process. Allowing you to choose all of the images severely limits the photographer from letting his creative vision of the day come thru. Simply choose your "must have" shots for the album. This is approximately 30 or 40 percent of the images that will go into the book. Doing this eliminates your photographer from being left shorthanded without great images able to story tell and create a fluid layout. Your photog-rapher can now choose from the hundreds of other amazing im-ages he or she shot to design an album that stands out from the crowd. And when the proof of the layout is presented to you, the opportunity to make some changes will allow for you to have the final say before the book is ever printed and bound.

Remember, the skills of your photographer go beyond just the camera and lens. Week in and week out they deal with the pro-duotographer’s expertise work for you. In the end you will have a much better album in a quicker amount of time.

Brian Phillips Photography, LLCBoston & Beyond • 617.821.1084www.brianphillipsphoto.com

Your wedding album is arguably the most important item left to remem-ber your wedding day as it’s your first family heirloom that will be passed

down for generations to come. You want this album to be a reflection of the people, the mood, and the excitement of your day. So the question is, should you or your photographer select the pictures for the wedding album?

Sun Photographics:

Jim and Sara Sun, the husband-and-wife co-owners of Wellesley-based Sun Photographics, recommend two photographers for weddings, especially with 100 guests or more, “having that second photographer can really add to the overall depth of coverage.” Two photographers working together can ensure maximum coverage throughout the day—one captur-ing the bride and groom, while the other takes reac-tion shots of parents and friends, especially during the toast and the first dance.

Jim Sun adds, “Having an experienced second shooter covering the bases also gives the lead photographer an additional degree of creative freedom, allowing the pur-suit of the riskier yet exceptionally beautiful pictures that truly capture the moment. That’s why we provide our couples with two photographers whenever possible.”

Should I have one photographer or two for my wedding?
