Commodore’s Report: by Leslie Baron

Summer is here and the weather has been perfect for boating and socializing. I’m looking forward to the upcoming raft out in Lake Boca and the summer happy hours. Maureen Jacobson will be finding us places to meet and greet so please watch for the

email blasts with more information. We continue to plan events during the summer for us who remain in the Florida heat. Although so many Corinthians have headed for cooler weather, there are still plenty of us here. If you have any ideas that might be fun for summer events, please feel free to contact either Roni Harkey or me. We already have several ideas in the works for entertainment and dinner activities. I am also working on boating weekends.

I know that Jerry Maguire is getting ready to make plans for the next Change of Watch. Early November will be here soon enough. If you are interested in helping him plan his year, he would like to hear from you.

If you are reading this Mainsheet from far and away, I hope you have a wonderful summer and I look forward to your return. For those of you who remain locally, I look forward to seeing you at Corinthian events before the summer is over and we are all together again.

It is summertime and Rick and I are in Colorado. The Corinthians

continue to grow and have some amazing future events planned.

Please continue to reach out to your friends and neighbors about

our club to keep it growing strong! Any Corinthian having

knowledge of someone interested in joining our wonderful group,

please call Kathy Hall 303-503-2529 or [email protected].

Passed over the bar– Dan Collins

Friday morning May 17th, 2019, at the age of 79,

Captain Dan Collins passed unexpectedly at his residence. Born in Columbus Ohio, 1940, Dan graduated from the University of Illinois with his degree in Zoology. He went on to Officer training before serving in the military, from which he was honorably discharged. Dan then moved to Florida where he obtained his Captain's license and bought a fishing boat, the "Call Girl" and chartered out of Bahia Mar. Dan met the love of his life Barbara, and her three children Jeanie, Scotty, and Lisa in 1967;

they married in 1969. He compounded the crime with another daughter, Kathleen, in 1973, and built a waterfront home in Lighthouse Point that same year. Captain Dan enjoyed a distinguished career in tournament fishing, yachting, and real estate. He acquired a repertoire of stories over his prolific career. He loved to sing and was brilliant with limericks. He is survived by his beautiful wife Barbara Collins, 3 children (Jeanie Gregory of Richland, GA, Lisa Hemphill and husband Jim Nelms of Highlands Ranch, CO, and Kathleen and husband Dan Murray of Clermont, FL), 6 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and older sister Deirdre and Brad Burnett of Rancho Santa Fe, CA. He is deeply missed.

His memorial was on Friday May 24th, 2019 at the Lighthouse Point

Yacht Club (2701 NE 42nd St, Lighthouse Point, FL 33064) . Many Corinthians joined the family in telling tall tales and remembering his illustrious life.

Thank you friends for your kind thoughts and cards regarding Bert's passing.

All of you have touched my heart with kind words and prayers. Bert enjoyed his many Corinthian friends and the club.

He will be deeply missed by all of us.

From Joann Gartenhaus
