The Pittsburgh Riverhounds picked up their first win of the year in epic fashion, defeating the Charleston Battery, 2-1, off a Corey Hertzog tally in second-half stoppage time at MUSC Health Stadium. The Hounds (1-1-1) rallied from a one-goal deficit at the half, scoring two unanswered to serve Charleston (2-1-0) its first loss of the season, as well as pick up their first win against the Battery since 2011. Notching the other tally for Pittsburgh was Marshall Hollingsworth in the 59th minute, while Ataullah Guerra opened the match’s scoring in the 8th minute. The decision was the Battery’s first loss on the year, as Pittsburgh will look to do the same against unbeaten Saint Louis FC (2-0-1) on Wednesday night. Returning to the Eastern Conference this season, Saint Louis FC has gotten off to a hot start, opening the season unbeaten and winning two-straight. Saint Louis is coming off a 3-2 win over defending league champion New York Red Bulls II that in- cluded two unanswered scores in the match’s final 20 minutes. The two clubs have faced off only twice since Saint Louis joined the USL in 2015. Pittsburgh was part of Saint Louis’ inaugural season home opener on April 11, 2015 that saw the clubs play to a 1-1 draw. Wednesday will see the return of one of the most profilic players in Hounds history in forward Jose Angulo. Named USL Pro MVP in 2013, Angulo scored 23 goals in 47 appearances during his time with Pittsburgh - tied for fourth all-time in club history. The midweek match also falls one day before the official five-year anniversary of Highmark Stadium opening on April 13, 2013. Angulo played a major role in that match as well, scoring the first-ever goal at the stadium in an eventual 2-1 loss to Harrisburg. Pittsburgh’s victory this past weekend busted several less than positive streaks for the club. Not only was it the club’s first victory against the Battery since 2011, but also the first win against a team with a winning record since the final game of the 2015 season. Additionally, the Hounds picked up their first win after trailing at the half since “The Miracle on the Mon” on May 30, 2015. Scoring first would be a welcomed change for the Hounds though, as they have yet to do so, and often have also found themselves down early, conceding goals within the first 10 minutes of the match twice so far this season. Conversely, Saint Louis has yet to concede the first goal in any of its three matches played to date. On an individual note, Corey Hertzog continues to be the Hounds offensive workhorse. The forward is tied for the league lead in goals with three and leads in shots with 13. The hot start for Hertzog is encouraging, as he finished last season with an impressive output of 13 goals, but didn’t score his third tally until the 11th game of the 2016 season. 2017 SCHEDULE & RECORD Overall Record: 1-1-1 Home: 0-1-1 • Away: 1-0-0 • Non-League Play: 0-0-0 MARCH Sat. 25 NEW YORK RED BULLS II YouTube T, 3-3 APRIL Sat. 1 FC CINCINNATI YouTube L, 0-1 Sat. 8 @Charleston Battery YouTube W, 2-1 Wed. 12 SAINT LOUIS FC YouTube 7 pm Sat. 15 @Charlotte Independence YouTube 7 pm Sat. 22 @Richmond Kickers YouTube 5 pm Sat. 29 HARRISBURG CITY ISLANDERS YouTube 7 pm MAY Wed. 3 TORONTO FC II YouTube 7 pm Sat. 13 @Ottawa Fury FC YouTube 2 pm Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Round Two Sat. 17 TBD N/A TBD Sat. 20 LOUISVILLE CITY FC YouTube 7 pm Wed. 24 @Harrisburg City Islanders YouTube 6:30 pm JUNE Sat. 3 ORLANDO CITY B YouTube 7 pm Sat. 10 @Toronto FC II YouTube 7:30 pm Sat. 17 @Louisville City FC YouTube 7:30 pm Thur. 22 TAMPA BAY ROWDIES YouTube 7 pm JULY Tue. 4 CHARLOTTE INDEPENDENCE YouTube 7 pm Sat. 8 @Orlando City B YouTube 7:30 pm Sat. 15 @Bethlehem Steel FC YouTube 5 pm Sat. 22 @Rochester Rhinos YouTube 6:05 pm Wed. 26 CHARLESTON BATTERY YouTube 7 pm Sat. 29 @Tampa Bay Rowdies YouTube 7:30 pm AUGUST Sat. 5 RICHMOND KICKERS YouTube 7 pm Sat. 12 @Harrisburg City Islanders YouTube 7 pm Sat. 19 @Saint Louis FC YouTube 8:30 pm Sat. 26 BETHLEHEM STEEL FC YouTube 7 pm SEPTEMBER Sat. 2 @FC Cincinnati YouTube 4 pm Sat. 9 LOUISVILLE CITY FC YouTube 7 pm Sat. 16 ROCHESTER RHINOS YouTube 7 pm Sun. 24 @Bethlehem Steel FC YouTube 3 pm Sat. 30 @New York Red Bulls II YouTube 4 pm OCTOBER Sat. 7 ROCHESTER RHINOS YouTube 7 pm Sat. 14 OTTAWA FURY FC YouTube 7 pm 2017 Pittsburgh Riverhounds > riverhounds.com > @PghRiverhounds > #PGHvSTL LAST TIME OUT Last Game Summary Hounds, 2, Charleston Battery, 1 Game 3 MUSC Health Stadium April 8, 2017 INDIVIDUAL Category Riverhounds Opponent Points 4 - Corey Hertzog vs. New York (3/25) 4 - Vincent Bezecourt, New York (3/25) Goals 2 - Corey Hertzog vs. New York (3/25) 2 - Vincent Bezecourt, New York (3/25) Assists 1 - Kevin Kerr at Charleston (4/8) 1 - Dante Marini, Charleston (4/8) 1 - Kay Banjo - at Charleston (4/8) 1 - Andrew Wiedeman, Cincinnati (4/1) 1 - Marshall Hollingsworth vs. New York (3/25) 1 - Arun Basuljevic, New York (3/25) 1 - Taylor Washington vs. New York (3/25) 1 - Andrew Tinari, New York (3/25) Shots 6 - Corey Hertzog vs. New York (3/25) 4 - Vincent Bezecourt, New York (3/25) 4 - Florian Valot, New York (3/25) SOG 4 - Corey Hertzog vs. New York (3/25) 3 - Florian Valot, New York (3/25) Saves 4 - Keasel Broome vs. New York (3/25) 4 - Mitch Hildebrandt, Cincinnati (4/1) TEAM Hounds High Hounds Low Category Opp High Opp Low 8 - vs. New York (3/25) 0 - vs. Cincinnati (4/1) Points 8 - vs. New York (3/25) 3 - twice 3 - vs. New York (3/25) 0 - vs. Cincinnati (4/1) Goals 3 - vs. New York (3/25) 1 - twice 2 - twice 0 - vs. Cincinnati (4/1) Assists 2 - vs. New York (3/25) 1 - twice 14 - vs. New York (3/25) 10 - vs. Cincinnati (4/1) Shots 16 - vs. Cincinnati (4/1) 13 - at Charleston (4/8) 6 - vs. New York (3/25) 3 - at Charleston (4/8) SOG 7 - vs. New York (3/25) 4 - twice 4 - vs. New York (3/25) 3 - twice Saves 4 - vs. Cincinnati (4/1) 2 - at Charleston (4/8) 14 - at Charleston (4/8) 10 - vs. New York (3/25) Fouls 17 - twice 16 - vs. New York (3/25) SUPERLATIVES CLUB NOTABLES All-Time Leading Goal Scorer ......................................................................
