The Pine Beach Police Department will participate in the upcoming National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day on Saturday, September 29th from 10 am to 2 pm in the lower level of borough hall on Pennsylvania Avenue. Held nationally by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), this is a great opportunity for those who missed the previous events, or who have subsequently accumulated unwanted, unused prescription drugs, to safely dispose of those medications.The American people responded overwhelmingly to a recent DEA-led National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day. On April 28th, citizens turned in a record-breaking 552,161 pounds (276 tons) of unwanted or expired medications for safe and proper disposal at the 5,659 take-back sites that were available in all 50 states and U.S. territories. When the results of the four Take-Back Days to date are combined, the DEA and its state, local, and tribal law-e n f o r c e m e n t and community partners have removed over 1.5 million pounds (774 tons) of medication from circulation.

The start of the school year can bring many things equal parts pleasant and stressful: seeing friends and classmates on a more regular basis; homework and upcoming tests and projects; going downtown for lunch; part-time evening and weekend jobs for saving and spending money; dating and hanging out; more focus on Your Future.Added to this are the influences of those same friends and classmates on how you dress, what television shows and movies you watch, who you “friend” or “unfriend” on Facebook, where you go and what

you like or don’t like. At times, this can all add up and feel like a sinking weight you can’t get away from. Everybody feels that way from time to time, but also everybody chooses to deal with it differently. Some people might go for a run or bike ride, others might flip on their videogames, and still more might just take a drive to think it out or listen to a preferred music playlist that fits their mood.Bad influences from those around you might push you to make poor decisions that will affect your present and future, however, and

Start the holiday season off right! The Pine Beach Municipal Alliance is sponsoring scenic horse drawn carriage rides on Friday, December 14th. Reservations start at 5:00 pm. The cost is $12.00 for adults and $8.00 for children under 12 years old, prepaid in advance. Boarding will be at The Pine Beach Chapel, located at the corner of Hunting Ave. and Hillside Ave. Registration will be on a first come basis and the deadline is November 1st. The demand for the event is high so please register early to avoid it being sold out. Bring the family out to see the beautiful holiday lights through Pine Beach plus come inside and warm up with a cup of hot chocolate and visit with Santa.

The Pine Beach Municipal Alliance is hosting a senior holiday breakfast buffet on Thursday, December 20th from 9 AM until Noon at the Pine Beach Fire House, corner of Prospect Ave. & Hillside Ave. Children from the Pine Beach Elementary School Chorus will entertain with holiday carols and Dayton Florist will demonstrate holiday flower arranging with all materials being supplied.

The 14th Annual Pine Beach 5K and One Mile Riverside Run went off without a hitch on a gorgeous Sunday morning, June 24th and included the participation of many local residents, including [far left] area builder Rudy Rinderer and [close left, center] Pine Beach Councilman Richard “Ritty” Polhemus.

Pine Beach Yacht Club’s 5th Annual Feed the Need Regatta took place Thursday, June 28th and included many food items donated to the St. Vincent dePaul Food Bank in Bayville. In previous years, the sailing teams competing in the event collected over 3,500 items of food to benefit that local food bank.

Admiral Farragut Academy Gets Historical Marker

The annual Pine Beach Independence Day parade and ceremony honored the past community accomplishments of Mayor Russ Corby and his wife, Judy, and featured the traditional parade of governing body officials, decorated vintage cars, bikes, and Pine Beach and nearby fire companies and first aid squads. Field games were later held at Vista Park.

Alumni of Admiral Farragut Academy, whose original campus was located on the Pine Beach shoreline for over 60 years, recently fundraised for and installed a historical marker on the bluff near the area where the front of Farragut Hall once stood.

If you need further proof on the matter, here’s how Adam Sandler put it in The Wedding Singer: “Alcohol equals puke equals smelly mess equals nobody likes you!”

You’ll probably worry about losing a friend and no longer being accepted by turning them down, but if they’re trying to push you into something you don’t want to do, you’re going to want to look again at your friendship: a true friend respects your decisions, and anybody who ditches you for going against them was never a real friend to start with. It’s also likely that others in your group feel the same way as you do and you’ll find support and stronger allies in the end.When faced with a peer pressure situation, think about why they might be doing it:• They might want to make you feel less important so they can feel better about themselves. Before we can begin to consider what’s ahead, we would like to reflect on our remarkable school opening. Our school year has gotten off to a great start. It was wonderful to see and personally meet so many of our Pine Beach School families at Back To School Night. Being a part of a child’s education dramatically increases their chances for success. Our P.T.O is off to a very busy start as well. Our P.T.O is a group of very dedicated people who provide

constant effort and support to our school and community. Thank you to all of the families that support our fundraising. This year we are fundraising for a new playground. We are continuing our student recognition program at Pine Beach Elementary this year. The teachers have the opportunity to nominate a Pine Beach Idol each week. Each week we will randomly select students who have been nominated by a teacher or staff member for showing good citizenship and character. The students will be Individuals Demonstrating

Outstanding Leadership Skills. These students will be photographed for our Idol Bulletin Board and will be featured on our morning announcements, within our newsletter and on our web page. We are continuing to focus on teaching Respect this year. Our motto is, “Panthers Practice the Golden Rule”.We value and welcome input from our parents and community members and continue to seek ways to communicate and partner with these great resources.
