A Word from the Pastor
“What is the purpose of going to church?” If Garrison Keillor is correct in suggesting that, “You can become a Christian by going to church about as easily as you become a car by sleeping in a garage,” then what is the point of church attendance.” The Clergy Journal, May/June 2004. Volume LXXX (80) Number 8,
“One reason attending church or worship is vital is because we spend time with the things we love. Thus if one professes to love God, then one will spend time with God in worship, study, prayer, and serving other people. We do these things not because we have to or that a vengeful God coerces us into doing them. Rather, God frees us by grace to want to do things that will make us better people and more effective witnesses for the kingdom.” We made vows at our baptism in front of a congregation of believers and when we accepted Christ as our Lord and savior and promised to serve God and others as faithful followers.
Let us always choose to make God and following Christ a priority!

Nurture, Missions & Outreach
A special thank you to all those volunteers who make Vacation Bible School happen. We were able to touch
the lives of about 25 children this year. We had a great time! The final night we had a hotdog cook out and
invited the parents to stay to listen to the story and songs about Noah. It was very well attended. Stay tuned
for next year’s VBS! It’ll be here before we know it!
Thank you to all those who donated to the Agape Boxes. Those boxes mean so much to the children that
receive them. If you didn’t get a chance to donate, it’s not too late! We can always use funds for postage costs.
Be sure to dress picnic-casual for our Church Picnic on September 8th right after the church service and bring
your favorite covered dish.
