Our 1st Annual Fall Bazaar is a few short weeks away!
Please continue to bring in any gently used children’s books for
the Preschool book sale.
We need many more volunteers to assist at our event. Please
add your name to the volunteer list in the social hall. If you are
making items for the bake sale, make sure they are wrapped
securely. Cakes, pies, cookies, brownies, etc. are all welcomed.
You can bring these items in during the WEF dinner on October
23rd or Thursday evening, October 24th during set up.
The Boy Scouts will be selling hot dogs and drinks on Saturday only.
There are flyers in the narthex that you can pick up and display in the community. Remember to invite your family, friends
and neighbors! The dates are Friday, October 25th from 10-5 and Saturday, October 26th from 10-2. Admission is $1
(children under 12 are free).
Further questions, see Carolyn Gilliam.

Children’s Corner
We have a great group of children for both Children's Church and nursery.
We are in need of 2 individuals who can take over the nursery on the 3rd Sunday of each month. If you ever need to be out of town, you can swap Sundays with someone else, so we do offer flexibility.
Please pray about this and let Karen Jenkins know if you can help out. Blessings.
Leola Hall Circle
The Leola Hall circle met for the first time after the summer break on 9/17/2019. We have many projects we're undertaking for the coming year.
One item we're looking at is to purchase additional Hymnals for the Sanctuary. We'll initially purchase 20 Hymnals so each pew will have 4 and additional Hymnals will be placed in the overflow rooms in the back of the Sanctuary. We will also be replacing the ribbons in the Hymnals with brand new ones.
Also, we're looking at replacing the sign in booklets in the pews. Most are in bad shape so we will be pricing them and purchasing new ones. These are just a few of the projects we'll be tackling this year.
We are glad to be back in session and welcome any women of the church to join us as you don't have to be a church member to join us. We meet the third Tuesday of the month in the Church library. Come check us out, you will enjoy the fellowship - you won't be disappointed!

Hilda Brumsey Circle
Welcome back to the Hilda Brumsey Circle after the summer break! Our meeting on the 19th
was very productive.
80 shoe boxes for the mission work to Armenia have been filled and will be on their way to the
distribution center shortly. We wish to thank all who helped by purchasing items to fill them.
Upcoming events include: social hour refreshments, Superbowl sub sale and our famous chocolate covered Easter Eggs as
well as a Wednesday evening supper in January.
Our next meeting will be on October 17th in the social hall at 7:00pm. Women of the church, please join us if you can. We
have good programs and great refreshments afterwards.
If you are interested in making fun and unique greeting cards, join the ladies of the
Greeting Card Ministry!
Their next meeting is Thursday, October 10th at 9:30am at Beverly Johnson’s home.

United Methodist Men
The United Methodist Men are pleased to announce that another BBQ fundraiser is in the works. We'll be
kicking it off Friday November 1st and the tickets will be on sale beginning the first week of October.
We meet the second Sunday of every month at 7:30am where we enjoy a home cooked breakfast
followed by a devotion and discussion on projects we're planning for this year and beyond. As a reminder - you do not have to
be a member of the church to join us, so all men of the church are highly encouraged to come and join our group for some
uplifting fellowship, encouragement, and brotherly support.
Mission Moment
On Sunday, September 16th, continuing our Mission Moments, the Chair of the Board of Trustees, Nedra Lane, shared the mission and many responsibilities the Trustees undertake. They have the supervision, oversight, and care of all real property owned by the church and all property and equipment acquired directly by the church. Taking care of our 91+ year old church and the many repairs, as well as routine maintenance and updates, has kept the Trustees hard at work to preserve our House of Worship for years to come. Major projects for 2019 have included:
• replacing the Air Condition system in the Social Hall
• raising the Office floor to level, repairing the walls, replacing wood trim, and the addition of paneling, and painting
• selecting new carpet for installation in the Office, Choir Room, Library, Office hallway and stairs
• roof repairs to stop several leaks and shingle replacement
• a French drain is to be installed around the Parsonage to prevent standing water under the building
• sand was delivered and spread in the auxiliary parking lot
• stripping and waxing the floors in the Social Hall, kitchen area, hallways, Classrooms and bathrooms
There were many smaller repairs and issues the Trustees also addressed and they have a prioritized growing list for work needed in 2020 which will include the repair and restoration of the boarded stain glass window in the sanctuary. As evidenced by the beautiful landscaping that greets us each Sunday, to the comfort of heat and air conditioning, to the structural integrity of the Church building and Parsonage, we all are recipients of the many gifts, graces, commitment and dedication the Board of Trustees demonstrate as “good stewards” of our beloved Pilmoor Memorial. Thank you, Nedra, for your leadership and to all Trustee members and volunteers for educating us through your faith lived out to a vital mission area of our church that often goes overlooked..

The Youth Group will start back up in October. This year we will be adding an
additional group for grades 3rd through 5th. We will again have one for grades 6th
through 8th.
We will meet the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Sundays of the month from 5:30-6:30pm.
We will not be supplying dinner at this time, but will have a snack each meeting.
The 3rd Sunday of the month will be a fun night, and we will have more information on this at our first meeting.
All youth in these grades are invited, whether members of Pilmoor or not, so tell your friends. Remember, the more we have,
the more fun it will be! Any questions, please call Karen Jenkins at 252-455-1003. Hope to see you there.
The next meeting for the Knit Wits will be Saturday, October 19th at 10:00am in the
church library.
All who knit, crochet, or would like to learn are welcome!
Boy Scouts - Troop 182
Troop 182 has welcomed 6 new scouts in the last month. Four are sixth graders who are just starting out their
Scouts, BSA experience. If you know of any 6-12th grade boys who want to learn to love the outdoors please
send them our way.
We are actively selling popcorn to fund the program. If you would like to help support contact [email protected]. We
will have a scout contact you and get you a delivery.
We have camping trips planned the next 3 months and will have much more to report soon. Thank you for supporting your
troop.
October brings our preschool students a ton of Fall fun!
We have arts and crafts, a Field Trip to Morris Farm, Fall parties, learning
centers, weekly chapel time and a special children's service with Pastor Jerry
all planned this month!
We would like to thank the Pilmoor Congregation for all of their help with Ms. Margaret's Retirement Dinner. It was a
wonderful evening celebrating Ms. Margaret and all of her years of service to our school.
Blessings,
Jessica Hill
Church Milestone
We have reached a great milestone on the Church Building Mortgage. Our original Mortgage was for $453,471, and we have paid off almost 25% of the mortgage making our current balance $346,941. With all the generous donations we have received toward our building fund and principal only we are over $50,000 ahead on payments and will be paying off the mortgage early.

Dates to remember for October 2019
Thank you to all who were able to donate to the Agape Boxes and those who were able to
come put the boxes together. I pray for each of you, each of the recipients of the boxes and
the mission of agape love.
Agape love is not a feeling; it's a motivation for action that we are free to choose or reject.
Agape is a sacrificial love that voluntarily suffers inconvenience, discomfort, and even death for the benefit of another without
expecting anything in return. We are called to agape love through Christ's example: "Therefore be imitators of God, as
beloved children. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to
God" (Ephesians 5:1-2).
Thank you to our Women’s Circles who took care of providing refreshments for our after church social time over the summer.
We continue to be blessed with this wonderful time to connect with each other.
Unfortunately due to Hurricane Dorian we had to cancel our church picnic. It’s a busy fall for Pilmoor so we’ve decided to
reschedule it for Wednesday, November 13th. It may be a little cool but we’ll bring back summer for an evening. Nurture,
Outreach, Discipleship and Missions Committee will provide the hot dogs and hamburgers. We’ll put out a signup sheet for
the sides and desserts.
Keep watch for a brand new Bible Study, coming soon!
Advent fun is in the works! Stay tuned for some pre-Christmas fun!
The next Nurture, Outreach, Discipleship and Missions Committee meeting is scheduled after church social time on October
20th, 2019. All are welcome!
