This year’s stewardship campaign slogan is “God Multiplies our Faithful Generosity”. Today, I am speaking on how our Food Pantry has benefitted from our faithful generosity. Many of you have supported the Food Pantry over the years through donations of food, frozen turkeys and chickens in November, and by monetary donations. All of us support the Food Pantry each time we give to the general fund, which pays the cost of the electricity used for heating and air conditioning and to run the five freezers and two refrigerators. Even though our faithful financial generosity is important, just as important is the faithful generosity of our time. As Jerry asks each week, “Where have we seen God”, I get to see God through the work of so many faithful volunteers at the Food Pantry each week. God has multiplied our faithfulness in this ministry which was started in 1985. For several years we only had three or four volunteers serving an average of about two families per week. Now we have over 20 volunteers serving an average of more than 30 families per week. Many people, other churches, and organizations have noticed our faithful generosity through the years, and now they contribute in many ways in supporting our Food Pantry. Just this week I received a notice from Albemarle Area United Way that they were increasing our allocation from $5,000 to $6,125 for the fiscal year 2019-2020. Also, since March, we received $4,130 from the Moyock Woman’s Club, $3,200 from AAUW, and $2,500 from Monsanto Company. So as you can see God does multiply our faithful generosity. In conclusion, I feel we are very blessed to be able to serve God by serving those in need of food assistance in Currituck County. As Matthew 25:40 says “truly I tell you whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me”. So as our Consecration Sunday approaches in the Fall, please remember how God multiplies our faithful generosity through the many ministries here at Pilmoor.

Stewardship Campaign 2019

Sam Casey’s message to us on Sunday, July 28th...

Hello! My name is Jessica Hill and I am excited and honored to be Pilmoor Preschool’s new Director! My

Conference Report

Sam and Patsy Casey attended the 2019 North Carolina Annual Conference on June 12-15 as

Pilmoor and Beacon District delegates. The theme of this year’s conference was “Generosity in

All People”. It was very uplifting to hear reports from mission and outreach on how generous

the North Carolina Conference was in 2018. A large part was due to the extensive need after

regional hurricane damage. We as a conference gave 18.6 million dollars to local and United

Methodist benevolences, an increase of $888,000 over 2017. Generosity was also shown

through three special offerings received during the four day conference. Wednesday’s offering

of $32,854 went to the Youth Storm Fund. Every dollar donated to the Youth Storm Fund will be matched up

to the goal of $500,000. Friday’s offerings included $13,430 for the Mission of Hope: Rotifunk Hospital in

Sierra Leone and $6,228 for Laity Ministries.

Each year members of the North Carolina Annual Conference meet to fellowship and address the business of

the Methodist Conference. This year over 1,600 laity and clergy gathered in Greenville, NC to do just this. We

spent much of our time selecting 16 delegates (8 clergy and 8 laity) that will represent the NC Annual

Conference at the 2020 General Conference held in Minneapolis. The General Conference of the UMC is the

top legislative body for all matters affecting the UMC connection. The main purpose of the 2020 General

Conference will be to act on a report from the Commission on a Way Forward, authorized to examine

paragraphs in the Book of Discipline concerning human sexuality.

We received a conference notebook. If anyone would like to see more details concerning any actions or

reports of this 2019 Annual Conference, the notebook will be in the church Library and we will be glad to

address any questions you might have.

Thank you for letting us serve Pilmoor and the Beacon District at this 2019 NC Annual Conference.
