Electrons emied in this manner can be called photoelectrons. WHAT ARE AGM BATTERIES? A BASIC INTRODUCTION TO ACID GLASS MAT BATTERIES AGM baeries differ from flooded lead acid baeries in that the electrolyte is held in the glass mats, as opposed to freely flooding the plates Very thin glass fibres are woven into a mat to increase surface area enough to hold sufficient electrolyte on the cells for their lifeme. The fibres that compose the fine glass mat do not absorb nor are they affected by the acidic electrolyte. These mats are wrung out 2–5% aſter being soaked in acids, prior to manufacture compleon and sealing. The plates in an AGM baery may be any shape. Some are flat, others are bent or rolled. AGM baeries, both deep cycle and starng, are built in a rectangular case to BCI baery code specificaons. AGM technology became popular in the early 1980s as a sealed lead acid baery for military aircraſt, vehicles and UPS to reduce weight and improve reliability. The acid is absorbed by a very fine fiberglass mat, making the baery spill-proof. This enables shipment without hazardous material restricons. PbO2 + Pb + 2H2SO4 = 2PbSO4 + 2H2O
