WELCOME Welcome back to Ashtonfield Public School for 2019, I hope that you are well rested and energised for another successful year. A very warm welcome to our new families and students, we looking forward to getting to know you! Keep an eye out for further information about our ‘Meet the teacher’ afternoon which will be held on Wednesday, 20th February. Our teachers worked hard over the break to create a settled learning environment for our students. Classes were formed last week and I am happy to report that our students are settling beautifully into new classes and routines. If you have concerns about your children, please contact your child’s teacher. Some subtle changes throughout the school have been made with staff, and we welcome a some new faces to our teaching team; Aisinn Mullins sharing classes in Kindergarten and Year 2, Alicia Marcus sharing classes in Year 3 and 4, Heather May teaching Year 6, and Pieta Shiells as Hearing Support. We have additional support in the office by welcoming Sheryn Long to our team and are adding an expanding team of Student Learning Support Officers (SLSOs) including Joanne Levey and Lauren Norley. A full staffing list is available on Page 4 and Page 5 of the newsletter. STUDENT LEADERSHIP Today we welcomed our new student leadership team as they hosted our first Monday morning assembly. Parents are invited to attend our Monday morning assembly, an opportunity to meet as a whole school, share a PBL values and celebrate success. These assemblies will be approximately 15 minutes in length.

SWIMMING CARNIVAL The Year 3-6 Swimming Carnival is on Tuesday, 12th February at Maitland Aquatic Cen-tre. A permission note has been sent home with all students in Years 3—6. The cost is $8.50 each to cover bus and pool entry. Students in Year 2 who turn 8 this year are also invited to attend if they are competent swimmers and can confidently swim 50 metres unaided in their strokes. There will be novelty events (within the pool grounds) for those students who are not participating in the competitive races. Everyone will be busy! Please note: as per Department guidelines there will be no free swim time. To ensure our carnival runs smoothly and on time we ask that students do not buy food from the kiosk - instead bring recess, lunch/drink from home. Parents are more than welcome to purchase from the kiosk for them-selves. Please be aware that there will be no ‘set time’ for lunch/recess so your child will need to have their lunchbox and water bottle with them in the grandstand. Student break times will depend upon the progress of the carnival events.
Please remember:
Sunscreen
School sunsafe hat
Towel and swimmers
A healthy lunch, recess and water bottle
Arrive at school on time ready for the bus.
Please ensure ALL ITEMS ARE LABELLED with your child’s name. VOLUNTARY CONTRIBUTION Resource fees for 2019 cost $45 per student. These fees go directly to providing every day resources for all students in the classroom. Please send payment in an envelope with your child’s name, class and “Resource Fee” written clearly on the front and place envelope in the silver tin at the school office. You may also pay online via the school website. Please enter “Resource Fee” under the payment description. SUPERVISION IN THE MORNING - Supervision in the playground starts at 8.25am in the morning and ends after bus duty in the afternoon. Please make the necessary before and after school care arrangements to ensure the safety and wellbeing of your child. PERMISSION NOTES AND NEWSLETTERS are posted on our school website. Go to ashtonfield -p.schools.nsw.edu.au. All whole school/class notes are posted but individual/sport team notes may not be posted. A REMINDER THAT PARENT ONLINE PAYMENTS can be made through our school website. Go to ashton-field-p.schools.nsw.edu.au and click on “Make a Payment” in the menu bar. Follow the prompts to make a pay-ment via Visa or MasterCard. Please ensure you enter the payment description as mentioned in your child’s per-mission note. Detailed instructions are included on our website under Permission Notes. SCHOOL USAGE AGREEMENT 2019 notes have been sent home with all students. Please complete these forms and return to the school office by this Friday, 8th February, 2019. This form includes our Local Walking Ex-cursions and Permission to Publish. STUDENT ABSENCES Parents may phone the school office to advise of their child ’s absence. Alternatively, an SMS will automatically be sent to parents each day if their child is marked absent. Parents are asked to reply to that SMS and their child’s reason for absence will be recorded. A REMINDER that parents and visitors are not permitted to park in the staff car park unless they have a disabled parking permit. Parents, students and visitors are also asked not to walk through the car park for safety reasons. INDIVIDUAL HEALTH CARE PLANS will be sent home with students (who already have health care plans at our school) in the near future. Parents are asked to update these plans and return them to the school office as soon as possible. PARKING AROUND THE SCHOOL Please be careful and obey the road rules when parking around the school. We ask that you also show consideration to our neighbours and do not park across driveways or walk through gardens. Thank you. Please see the school zone parking information further on in this newsletter. WAITING FOR STUDENTS IN THE AFTERNOON We ask parents and carers to wait under the COLA or on the paved area outside the office of an afternoon, not outside classrooms. With such a large number of students leaving at the same time we need to keep our pathways clear. Thank you for helping to keep our students and visi-tors safe.

Library News
The library is back into full swing with lessons for all students in Year 1 to Year 6 commencing today. There are many new and exciting books available, so a reminder for students to find their Library bags ready for borrowing on their lesson day. It is a requirement that students have a library bag if they wish to borrow. This is to protect the books in their care from those lost rotten bananas lurking in the bottom of school bags or the odd leaking water bottle. All students have been provided with a library bag when they started school, however, if it has been misplaced, you can purchase a new one from the Library at a cost of $5.00. Library lesson days for the Year 1 to Year 6 classes this term are:
Debating News Debating is off to an early start this year with an information and tryout session being held today. Any students who have an interest in debating were invited to come to a meeting at Lunch 1, to learn about what is involved in debating and then decide if they wish to try out for the school teams.
