The Ultimate Picture Quality
100Hz Clear LCD100Hz Clear LCD creates extreme motion sharpness for clear and vibrant images even with fast on-screen motion. The Double Frame Rate Insertion works with a high100Hz refresh rate. It increases the sharpness of motion reproduction to more than twice that of conventional LCD, resulting in a response time of 3 milliseconds (measured in Perceived Blurr-Edge-Width; BEW). This unique Philips technology brings motion sharpness of LCD displays to an unprecedented level.
LCD Full HD display 1920x1080pThis display has a resolution that is referred to as Full HD. With state-of-the-art LCD screen technology it has the full high-definition widescreen resolution of 1920 x 1080p. This is the highest resolution that HD broadcast can transmit. It allows the best possible picture quality from any format of HD input signal. It produces brilliant flicker-free progressive scan pictures with optimum brightness and superb colors. This vibrant and sharp image will provide you with an enhanced viewing experience.
HD ReadyEnjoy the exceptional picture quality of a true High Definition TV signal and be fully prepared for HD sources like HDTV broadcast, Blu-ray DVD or HDVD. HD ready is a protected label that offers picture quality beyond that of progressive scan. It conforms to strict standards laid out by EICTA to offer a HD screen that displays the benefits of resolution and picture quality of a High Definition TV signal. It has a universal connection for both analog YPbPr and uncompressed Digital connection of DVI or HDMI, supporting HDCP. It can display 720p, and 1080i signals at 50 and 60Hz.
Perfect Pixel HDPerfect Pixel HD Engine offers the unique combination of ultimate sharpness, natural detail, vivid colors and smooth natural motion on all qualities of HD, standard TV signals and multimedia content, for high definition displays. Each pixel of the incoming picture is enhanced to better match the surrounding pixels, resulting in a more natural picture. Artifacts and noise in all sources from multimedia to standard TV and also in highly compressed HD content are detected and reduced ensuring that the picture is clean and razor sharp.

HD-Natural Motion
The introduction of motion compensated pictures in stead of simple repetition results in the double amount pictures and motion changes resulting in steady and fluent movements

But the problem still remains with 50Hz film mode. Here the motion changes are only 25 (in fact 24) per second. Without Digital Natural Motion the eye tends not to follow the natural trajectory of an object, but notice a juddering effect following the object as stationary from A1 to B1, and jumping to its new position A2. With DNM the motion changes are at 50 times per second. The eye perceives the motion much smoother. DNM shows high accuracy in motion estimation since the estimation isbased on comparison with 3 fields.

New feature in specsMandatory feature Optional feature
HDMI features: Mandatory vs Optional
Only for sink devices
HDMI Features in Yellow are mandatoryHDMI features in blue are optional
TV520 fulfills all mandatory requirements of HDMI vs 1.3 and is therefore technically HDMI 1.3 Because new features HDMI vs 1.3 are optional it does not
mean anything to say that a product is HDMI vs 1.3 (or 1.3a) Therefore HDMI consortium says that a product is ‘HDMI
compliant’, without mentioning the versionIf implemented, one can mention which options are supported,
e.g. ‘deep colour’, ‘1080p’, ‘mini-connector’, audio formatsCurrently naming of optional features is discussed in the HDMI
consortium to prevent confusion in the market. Samsung is currently communicating the version 1.3 (without mentioning the options).

Comparison DVI and HDMI• DVI:
– Origin: PC-market– Digital uncompressed video (no audio or control)– Differential signals – based on TMDS technology– Only RGB 4:4:4 (3 x 8 bit)– HDCP content protection
• HDMI = DVI plus:– YUV 4:4:4 (3 x 8 bit) or 4:2:2 (up to 2 x 12 bit)– Audio– CEC system control protocol– Small connector
• HDMI is backward compatible with DVI 1.0– Passive converter dongle
HDCP = High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection”Encrypts video, audio, other auxiliary data
Protection from “eavesdropping”Negotiation of HDCP-keys via DDC-bus: both source as sink (TV) have their own set of private keys.Required by content providers for many sources, e.g.
STBDVDs for which CSS is used.
HDCP is required to have access to this content“Always” used in CE applicationsBeing added to PC HDMI outputs now as well
EDID Information = Extended Display Identification DataInfo stored in an EEPROM for each HDMI inputContains all video and audio formats supported by the TVOrder of formats indicates preference of TVSource ought to use this preference order

Content browser, card reader and USB• USB coverage 2.0• No Ethernet access, PC link possible• Content browser: same functionality as jaguar, except formats:
– JPEG,MP3– No DivX/MPEG4 (reason: only ONE TM)– MPEG1/2 is handled by MPEG decoder – trick modes etc are not
supported• Card reader only for Europe, top B (savings in US)
– Same capabilities as USB• Investigation ongoing on applying Picture Transfer Protocol:
– Extension of Mass Storage– Many portable devices require more than only simple file transfer (eg: direct
viewing, editing, creating/storing photo album…..)– Main drive: digital camera’s, GSM and Philips GoGear devices

Blinking LED indicates Error codes
So you will see the Pacific3 test picture for 3 seconds and thenthe DFI EPLD test picture for another 3 seconds. With this extra test picture you can determine if the DFI board is workingproperly.
Also new in this chassis: when you activate CSM and there is a USB stick connected to the TV, the software will dump the complete CSM content to the USB stick. The file (Csm.txt) will be saved in the root of your USB stick. This info can be handy if you do not have picture.
Another new item in this chassis is when CSM is activated, the complete error-buffer content will be shown via the blinking LED procedure.
