YOUR LIONS AT WORK New Member Induction

At our October 4th membership meeting we officially inducted the following Lions (below Left) into Lionism and service and to join in with all of the members of PELC in our quest to be the best. It was a simple ceremony with our own District 2-X1 DG Lion Ken Gleason

officially inducting and welcoming these new Lions into service. From left to right Lions George Harrington, *Franklin Chu, *Julius Catral, Bobby Buison, *Elsie Carroll,

Ed Whitman, TJ Johnson, *Larry Bisno and Kenny Baxter (* inducted Lion). Lion George is shown (right) traditionally pinning the Lions pin on the new Lions vest of Lion Kenny Baxter. When you see these Lions be sure to extend a warm welcome and introduce them to what it means “TO SERVE”.

The Blind Date? That’s what they called it, so what are these Lions up to now?

Well they are showing off again (Left to right Lions TJ Johnson, Cyndie Bunker, Karen Marks, Julius Catral and Franklin Chu). They are showing off over the $522.25 they just collected for your District Charities in a little more than 3 hours on the four corners at Legacy and Bishop just outside The Shops of Legacy in west Plano. Below left Lion George Harrington is in the midst of collecting from an unsuspecting but generous motorist while Lion Dora Harrington, center, hangs onto the loot with Lion Don Johnson, right, obviously looking very supervisory. In the end we all learned another lesson in how “TO SERVE”.

Love Where You Live What an opportunity it was to participate last year in this community wide project helping your Plano neighbors with upkeep and improvement on their property. This years campaign kicked off with a carnival at the Cross Bend Christian Church in Plano TX. Several of our

Lions showed up in our Lions attire to talk to the carnival goers about Lions service and our club involvement in the community. Thanks goes out to these Lions Mike Rogers, Arthur Young, Kathy Laswell, Trevor Laswell Dora Harrington, George Harrington, Tom McCallister and Bobby Buison for spending their time to spread the word about Lionism.

DID YOU KNOW Organizational Structure of Your District The district is your club’s connection to the wider world of Lions Clubs International. The world’s Lions clubs are grouped into approximately 750 districts with 35 or more clubs and at least 1,250 Lions club members. Each district has a district governor who is elected for a one-year term and is responsible for the overall success of our mission of service in the district. The responsibilities of the district governor are shared with the district governor team, comprised (DG Team) of the district governor and first and second vice district governors. The team works together to supervise overall district operations, develop team strategies and encourage the invitation of new members and formation of new clubs. The district governor also supervises other district officers, including the cabinet secretary and treasurer. The officers and various committee chairpersons make up the district cabinet. Your District 2-X1 has 48 district committee chairs, which would include such area responsibilities as District Charities, GMT, GLT and Strategic Planning. Club presidents and secretaries are often in contact with the district cabinet and serve as an informal advisory committee. Some large districts are divided into regions of 10 to 16 clubs, and regions are broken down into zones of 4 to 8 clubs. Where this is the case, region and zone chairpersons also work closely with the district cabinet. District 2–X1 has 10 Zone Chairs. Each chair has the responsibility for an average of 7 clubs. PELC is in Zone 3 along with Allen, Allen High Noon, Collin College, Plano Evening and Plano West an Internet club. Two or more districts within a territory, typically organized along national, state or provincial lines, form multiple districts. Stand-alone districts are called single districts. Subject to the association provisions, each multiple district supervises the administration of its own affairs and may choose officers, hold meetings, administer funds, authorize expenditures and exercise other administrative powers as provided in its respective multiple district constitution and by-laws.

HELP WANTED Parade Committee

Well it’s almost that time again. Hope you are ready. Dust off those running shoes and get that old winter coat out because we are going to need all hands on deck for this parade. We will be kicking off our organization for the Christmas Parade for 2014 at our next meeting November 15th. Our title sponsor for this year is Transamerica. Several of our dedicated Lions have been very successful at getting us sponsors for this years Parade. A special thanks needs to go out to Lion Karen Marks for getting the Transamerica group to be our title sponsor this year. The people at Transamerica are very excited and are planning to participate at all levels of the parade. The theme this year is “Christmas Treasures on Parade”. We have over 38 entries so far but that doesn’t count the 15 schools that have also entered. So lets get started, be flexible and plan on another fun day. Remember to you're your calendar for December 13th. We will get started at 6:30am. Remember it is fun “TO SERVE”.

Your Newsletter Needs Help!!!

One of the main objectives of your newsletter is to keep our PELC membership appraised of the various opportunities in service and the projects that are coming up in the future. If you do not inform the newsletter of these activities then there will be no information, support or follow up of the event you are doing. No pictures, no heads up on what is going on and worst of all no follow up. A simple phone call or email outlining your activity is all we need to keep your club informed. Call or email Tom McCallister at 602-614-1394 or [email protected]. I will do the rest. Thanks for your support.
