On April 1, the fourth graders visited Riverbanks Zoo in Columbia, SC. In science, students have learned about the many adaptations that help
animals to survive in diverse habitats. At the zoo, they had the opportunity to see these adaptations firsthand, from the opposable thumbs of the
gorilla to the oblong shape of penguin eggs. The students were able to see, and even touch, animals from all over the world. As a special bonus, the
weather was perfect for this fun and educational day at the zoo!
4th Grade News
Staff Spotlight for AprilMrs. Brown Art
Hometown: Hillsville, VA
Favorite restaurant: Anywhere that has great steak!
Name of your favorite art teacher: Ms. Cochran
City you would like to visit: Florence, Italy
College: Radford University in Virginia
Favorite sport/team to watch: Our house LOVES college football! It's on all the time during football season. As for favorite teams, my husband likes the University of Tennessee and I'm a Virginia Tech fan...should be an interesting game coming up in 2016!
Why you became an art teacher: In college, I was torn between graphic design and art education. After my first day of student teaching, I knew I wanted to be an art teacher.
Favorite thing to do when not at school: Shop and read...it's a tie!
Most rewarding part about being an art teacher: I love how excited kids get about a new project, especially when I'm just as excited! I also love being able to help kids make connections (and turn on light bulbs) by integrating art into their curriculum.
Silliest fact about you: I sing and dance in the car ALL of the time. Nothing is better than hearing a great song on the radio while you're driving!
