    north to Boyne High-

    lands for Carnival week-end. Ramon E, Eric Z,Steve G, Pat R, Steve N,

    Michael R, Kent F tell

me we had a great timebut all I remember is theSafe Boating Seminarthat we attended.

As the ice continues tomelt we may have some

interesting ice forma-tions along the lakeshore west of the club ifwe get a good NE storm. We have had some inter-

    esting formations al-

ready this year by theMarblehead lighthouseand the west PortageRiver pier. A heavy NE

wind, high water, and iceunder the docks are not agood combination forPCYC docks. I mighteven relive my earlier

days at the Club andchallenge climbing theice formations if they

form. Maybe I will justtake pictures instead!

The Rear Commodorealready has the tennis

court ready to play. Weare hoping for some nicedays to remove tree

branches and leavesfrom the grounds ahead

    of the April 13th work

party. It could rain thatweekend and we want tomake use of any nice

    days that we have. When

we start talking "WorkParty" we know thatspring is just around thecorner.

The Sailing seminar onMarch 22 at PCYC was

very informative. I havea better appreciation forthe knowledge or insome cases the lack ofknowledge of our sail-

ors. I learned I need to

stick to moving racebuoys and stay on apower boat. The nextopportunity to learn

more about sailing willbe at SSC on Saturday,April 19. This will be aRace Management Semi-nar which is very impor-

tant for those wishing tohelp out with our races.Another educational op-

portunity will be theWeather Seminar at our

club on Sunday, May18th. Please sign up at

the bar for that meeting. In April we have sched-

uled a FNS, the Tax Day

Party, the Kids EasterParty, the Work Party,

    and a BYOS. Next year's

    Social Calendar (May 1,2014 - Apr 30, 2015) is

    being proof read and

    soon will be printed and

mailed in early April. Atthis time we could usesome extra help on theMothers' Day Commit-

tee and the New YearsEve function. If you

would like to participateplease contact Dr. PatReineck of the Socialcommittee. Finally, inMay, on Memorial Day,

I would like to ask all

PCYC current militaryand Veterans to helpcelebrate the short river-front ceremony here at

the club at 9:00 am be-fore the communityceremony at Veterans

    Park at 10:00 am.

I would also like tocongratulate PCYCmembers son Tristan

    Auxter on receiving his

Boy Scout Eagle Awardrecently. He was pre-sented his award by Dr.Derrill Hablitzel, who

was the second EagleScout in Ottawa County

    in 1932.

    Spring has sprung and

the risers are in at PCYCawaiting your boats. "AprilFool" !!! We are having a

bit of a problem with 18inches of ice in the lagoon.

However, on the positiveside the ice gave Eric andDoug the opportunity tocatch some nice perch forthe Junior Sail Fundraiser.

See the photo on page 4. Iasked Doug F to cut somemore holes around thedocks for riser placement

but he declined my invita-tion. Since the lagoon wasfull of ice we cancelled the

riser party and the PCYCsnow ski team headed

After you have read theCommodores report youmay see a common themewith my report; cold, ice, winter like weather.March is supposed to be a

month of transition fromwinter to spring. By thistime of year we usuallycan spot a few early boat-ers in their docks. That

has not happened yet. Ourannual Riser Party isscheduled for the weekendof April 6th, not March 30thas the social calendar sug-

gests. As that date ap-proaches we will evaluatewhether the risers can be

    installed due to the ice.

In spite of the weather wecontinue with our activi-ties. Everyone enjoyed

    themselves at our Mardi

Gras party in preparationfor Fat Tuesday and all theIrish were out for our St.Patricks Day party. For a

    first time our regular stag

event was changed to aFamily Burger event onSunday evening. I hopeeveryone enjoyed thisevent as it was re-scheduled from Wednes-

day due to a level 3 snowstorm. By the way, the

    burgers were very tasty.

Our annual Spring WorkParty date is approachingfast and is scheduled for

    April 13th

. We depend onour members at this eventto assist in our spring

preparation of the clubhouse and grounds for thesummer of events and use.

Please do consider work-ing at this event as there

are many projects to com-plete and we are a workingclub. We will serve a

    hearty lunch and bloody

Marys for anyone whoshows up to work. If weencounter bad weather forthat day we ask that volun-

    teers consider coming to

the club on their leisure toassist in cleanup items onany nice day. Please seeChuck Reichman if youhave any time to contrib-

    ute.

Our mens restroom re-modeling project will start

soon. Please be patient ofthe inconveniences whilewe complete this project.During this project, port-

able toilets are located atthe rear entrance to theclub house for the mens

    use.

We are stepping back andtaking another perspectiveof our club house glasshouse replacement project.

Other potential optionshave become apparent to

our board and planningcommittee. So as to not

take the incorrect path forour membership we arelooking at the bar, the

The first "Cruise-Out" of the year will be held April 25,26,27. This event could actually be an

"Ice -Breaker", as the lake is still frozen over. For this event we typically go to "A" Dock, but thatmay not be an option this year. The city docks are currently being renovated. We may have to look for alter-

native dock space. I will keep all those that have signed up in the loop as the dates get closer. No matter the

weather it is always great to get back to PIB to start the season.

The "Cruise-Out" book is at the bar. Please take the time to sign up for upcoming cruising events. Themore people that participate, the better the event.

    Happy boating,

    Secret Boating News/Gossip

Secret Gossip #1Jim Miller has purchased another

sailboat. A 30+ foot Beneteau sailboat. I am notsure of the size because he has kept it covered and

hidden in a secret location very much like an Amer-

icas Cup boat. Happy Birthday Deloris.

Secret Gossip #2 Mark Sprenger will be sporting a

new Main Sail on Thin Ice. Happy BirthdayLinda.

Secret Gossip #3Cliff Ruckstill ordered a new spin-

naker. Happy Anniversary Ranae.Secret Gossip #4Rumor has it that Bill Taylor, not

to be confused with his dad Bill Taylor, is in themarket to buy he and his boys a J-24. It should tow

nicely behind the Egg Harbor. Merry Christmas

    Rhonda.

(We hope all purchases were made with the blessing

    of the wives.)

April showers bring May Boat launches.

The hard winter has made this years launch evenmore exciting. I have seen lots of activity going onin the boat yards already. 40 degree weather used to

be too cold for me to think about going and working

on the boat. Not this year. Give me some 40 de-grees and sunshine and I am zipping open the shrink

    wrap.

best changed for the future of this club. As fiscal officersthis is our duty. Many other options need to be included

into this plan such as flow and general appearance of

what we want our club to be. We will be keeping you upto date on this in the future. No vote is planned now for

the May membership meeting. In the meantime please

ask any Flag or Board member if you have any questions.
