shows last year was verywell received. Also on thesocial calendar for Octo-ber will be a Chili Cook off on Saturday, October 5and a Sweetest Day Din-ner at the Club chaired byDoug and Michelle Beckon October 19. Of Course,October is the month forHalloween. Does anybody
remember “G-String Gina”??? (God I hopenot!) Anyway, the Hallow-een Bar Party is Friday,October 25. The Chil-dren’s Halloween Party isthe following day, Satur-
day October 26.It is great to see
Past Commodore BernieGates back up andaround. He was recently
hospitalized for a littlewhile, but looks as goodas ever! I realize that thistime of year can be kindof depressing with the
warm and fun days of summer slipping away.October is a transitionalmonth, as we slip thebonds of warm summerdays and prepare for thewinter. But the work be-
hind the scenes at PortClinton Yacht Club neverceases. So enjoy everyday and spend some of them with your friends at
PCYC!
Pardon me if Iwax nostalgically aboutthe great Labor Dayweekend at Port Clinton
Yacht Club. My personalthanks go out to headbartender Ted Wierzba,Skip Sorgen and AndySchlotterer for their helpin putting the Commo-dore’s Wine Tasting and
Smoker on Thursday, Au-gust 29. It was a beauti-ful night, the Tall ShipsPATHFINDER and PLAY-FAIR arrived right on time, and Val Thayer did agreat job organizing thewine tasting. We hadclose to 100 folks on thedeck on a beautifulThursday night, and itwas just a terrific event.
That was followedby a fantastic Green Is-land Race weekend. Con-gratulations to Thomasand Park McRitchieaboard JEB for sweeping the top awards, including the Carl Schwentzfier Tro-phy for 1st Overall inPHRF which also meanwinning the coveted“Green Jacket”. We had a
very good representationfrom PCYC in the race. Iam happy to report thatyour Commodore and hiscrew sailed SCOOP to a2nd place finish in thePHRF-C class. It was atough slog up to GreenIsland, but the wind
picked up and we wereable to finish the race in
good time.Speaking of sail-
ing, the Snow FlurriesRegatta is the weekendof September 28 and 29.I assume you will get andread this prior to thatweekend. Tammy Al-mendinger is very good
about getting it postedearly. Anyway, enjoy yourclub that weekend, enjoythe Snow FlurriesChicken Barbecue, andhelp us welcome the visit-ing sailors for the week-end. There is also FridayNight Snacks on Septem-
ber 27.The biggest event
we would like for you to
attend is the Fall WorkParty on Sunday, October20. That is the time whenthe members volunteer tohelp put the club groundsto bed for the winter. Nodoubt Rear CommodoreRodwancy will have a verygood list of chores thatneed to be accomplishedthat day. A free lunch isavailable for all the work-
ers after the work isdone.
Friday NightSnacks are scheduled onOctober 4 and 11. We willhost our second annualclub member “ArtisanShow” in the Ballroom onOctober 11. Our first

Hello everyone! Let me
give you an update on
what’s going on around
the club.
We have a few projects
that are winding down
and a couple ready to
start.
1. Wireless Network: I
have NOT been success-
ful in being able to stay
within the budget the
Board approved for the
wireless network. This
project is being put on
hold until the spring
where it may be revisited.
2. Irrigation System: Pro-
gress was made Septem-
ber 19th by the team of
Eric Reynolds, Bob
Mosser, Doug & Janet
Bixler and myself on the
irrigation system. Morethan 1000’ was put in the
ground, all the sprinkler
heads were installed and
the trenches filled.
Thanks guys (and Gal) for
a good hard days work.
Eric reported that there
were no leaks either!
There are still a few areas
to finish, but the heavy
work is done.
3. Since the Sail Garageexpansion has been put
on hold, we will be fenc-
ing that area with privacy
screen to use as a stor-
age area.
4. Wood boarder along
the stone on the river.
The boarder will retain
the stone and give a nice
finished edge to plant
grass up to.
5.Care Taker’s Garage:The garage will be under-going some much neededupdates in the few weeks. The structure has beenunsecured for severalyears and not useable. When complete, it will besecure, have lights andheat.
The pool has been cov-ered, winterized and will
receive some fall mainte-
nance in the pump room.
Eric reports that the pool
hasn’t looked this good
post season since
he started here.
Hats off to all that
have contributed
over the past couple of
years to restore it, main-
tain it, manage it and
staff it. It is one of our
most important assets!
The Fall Work Party is
coming up in a few
weeks. Please mark your
calendars for October
22nd to be a part of a
great event. If you have
not been to one in the
past, why not try this
one? We treat our volun-teers to free doughnuts,
bloodys, coffee and
lunch. The more people
we have, the more we
can accomplish…. If you
have a project you would
like considered, get it to
me quick so I can review
That’s all for now, see youaround the club!
