shows last year was very well received. Also on the social calendar for Octo- ber will be a Chili Cook off on Saturday, October 5 and a Sweetest Day Din- ner at the Club chaired by Doug and Michelle Beck on October 19. Of Course, October is the month for Halloween. Does anybody remember “G-String Gina”??? (God I hope not!) Anyway, the Hallow- een Bar Party is Friday, October 25. The Chil- dren’s Halloween Party is the following day, Satur- day October 26. It is great to see Past Commodore Bernie Gates back up and around. He was recently hospitalized for a little while, but looks as good as ever! I realize that this time of year can be kind of depressing with the warm and fun days of summer slipping away. October is a transitional month, as we slip the bonds of warm summer days and prepare for the winter. But the work be- hind the scenes at Port Clinton Yacht Club never ceases. So enjoy every day and spend some of them with your friends at PCYC! Pardon me if I wax nostalgically about the great Labor Day weekend at Port Clinton  Yacht Club. My person al thanks go out to head bartender Ted Wierzba, Skip Sorgen and Andy Schlotterer for their help in putting the Commo- dore’s Wine Tasting and Smoker on Thursday, Au- gust 29. It was a beauti- ful night, the Tall Ships PATHFINDER and PLAY- FAIR arrived right on time, and Val Thayer did a great job organizing the wine tasting. We had close to 100 folks on the deck on a beautiful Thursday night, and it was just a terrific event. That was followed by a fantastic Green Is- land Race weekend. Con- gratulations to Thomas and Park McRitchie aboard JEB for sweeping the top awards, including the Carl Schwentzfier Tro- phy for 1st Overall in PHRF which also mean winning the coveted “Green Jacket”. We had a very good representation from PCYC in the race. I am happy to report that your Commodore and his crew sailed SCOOP to a 2nd place finish in the PHRF-C class. It was a tough slog up to Green Island, but the wind picked up and we were able to finish the race in good time. Speaking of sail- ing, the Snow Flurries Regatta is the weeken d of September 28 and 29. I assume you will get and read this prior to that weekend. Tammy Al- mendinger is very good about getting it posted early. Anyway, enjoy your club that weeken d, enjoy the Snow Flurries Chicken Barbecue, and help us welcome the visit- ing sailors for the week- end. There is also Friday Night Snacks on Septem- ber 27. The biggest event we would like for you to attend is the Fall Work Party on Sunday, October 20. That is the time when the members volunteer to help put the club grounds to bed for the winter. No doubt Rear Commodore Rodwancy will have a very good list of chores that need to be accomplished that day. A free lunch is available for all the work- ers after the work is done. Friday Night Snacks are scheduled on October 4 and 11. We will host our second annual club member “Artisan Show” in the Ballroom on October 11. Hello everyone! Let me

give you an update on

what’s going on around

the club.

We have a few projects

that are winding down

and a couple ready to

start.

1. Wireless Network: I

have NOT been success-

ful in being able to stay

within the budget the

Board approved for the

wireless network. This

project is being put on

hold until the spring

where it may be revisited.

2. Irrigation System: Pro-

gress was made Septem-

ber 19th by the team of

Eric Reynolds, Bob

Mosser, Doug & Janet

Bixler and myself on the

irrigation system. Morethan 1000’ was put in the

ground, all the sprinkler

heads were installed and

the trenches filled.

Thanks guys (and Gal) for

a good hard days work.

Eric reported that there

were no leaks either!

There are still a few areas

to finish, but the heavy

work is done.

3. Since the Sail Garageexpansion has been put

on hold, we will be fenc-

ing that area with privacy

screen to use as a stor-

age area.

4. Wood boarder along

the stone on the river.

The boarder will retain

the stone and give a nice

finished edge to plant

grass up to.

5.Care Taker’s Garage:The garage will be under-going some much neededupdates in the few weeks. The structure has beenunsecured for severalyears and not useable. When complete, it will besecure, have lights andheat.

The pool has been cov-ered, winterized and will

receive some fall mainte-

nance in the pump room.

Eric reports that the pool

hasn’t looked this good

post season since

he started here.

Hats off to all that

have contributed

over the past couple of

years to restore it, main-

tain it, manage it and

staff it. It is one of our

most important assets!

The Fall Work Party is

coming up in a few

weeks. Please mark your

calendars for October

22nd to be a part of a

great event. If you have

not been to one in the

past, why not try this

one? We treat our volun-teers to free doughnuts,

bloodys, coffee and

lunch. The more people

we have, the more we

can accomplish…. If you

have a project you would

like considered, get it to

me quick so I can review

it. [email protected]

That’s all for now, see youaround the club!
