Feast of St. Martha Monday, July 29, 2013

Next Monday, July 29th, is the Feast of St. Martha, our Parish Patroness. St. Martha was the sister of Mary (who is commonly identified as Mary Magdalene) and Lazarus (whom Jesus raised to life after he had been dead for four days). Martha, Mary and Lazarus lived in Bethany, just two miles distance outside of Jerusalem. Jesus often stayed with them. John’s Gospel tells us that “Jesus loved Martha and her sister Mary and Lazarus.” Martha seems to have been the oldest, and the one who had chief care of their house-hold. Luke’s Gospel tells us how Martha showed great solici-tude to entertain and serve her guests. St. Martha is invoked as a Special Patroness of those who serve others. She is also invoked as the Special Patroness of rectory Housekeepers and all those who serve the needs of priests. For us in this community, Martha is our Special Patroness. Let us all this week pray in a special way to St. Martha, ask-ing her to intercede before the throne of God for all the needs of our parish community. Let us also beg her help and interces-sion for all who care for the needs of the priests of our parish, and for those who care for the needs of priests everywhere.

Fiesta de Santa Marta Lunes, 29 de Julio 2013

El próximo Lunes, 29 de Julio, es la Fiesta de Sta. Marta, nuestra patrona parroquial. Sta. Marta fue la hermana de María (quien por lo común es conocida por María Magdalena) y de Lázaro (el cual Jesús resucito después de muerto por cuatro días). Marta, María y Lázaro vivieron en Betania, solo a dos millas de distancia en las afueras de Jerusalén. Jesús seguido se quedaba con ellos. El evangelio de Juan nos dice “Jesús amaba a Marta a su hermana María y a Lázaro.” Marta por ser la mayor de los hermanos, y la que tenia el cuidado y mandato de su casa. El evangelio de Lucas nos dice como Marta demostró gran solicitud por entretener y servir a sus invitados. Sta. Marta es invocada como una Patrona muy Especial de los que sirven a otros. También es invocada como la Patrona Especial de las ama de casa de la rectoría y de todos los que sirven a las necesidades de los sacerdotes. Para nosotros en la comunidad, Marta es nuestra Patrona Especial. Oremos toda la semana de una manera especial, para pedirle a Sta. Marta que interceda antes el trono de Dios, por todas las necesidades que la comunidad de nuestra parroquia necesita. También roguémosle por su ayuda e intercesión por todos los que ayudan con el cuidado de las necesidades de los sacerdotes de nuestra parroquia, y por los que cuidan de las necesidades de los sacerdotes del mundo.

FATHER DENNIS PRISCO Born in July 6, 1963 in Butuan City, Philippines to Esteban Prisco and Cresenciana Salipong, he is the fourth child in the family of eight (8) children. He entered Saint John Vianney Seminary in Cagayan de Oro, Philippines and was ordained to the priesthood in June 25, 1996 for the Diocese of Butuan. He came to the US and served in the Diocese of Lubbock, Texas in December 2010 until August 2012. He arrived in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles in June 2013 and assigned as an Associate Pastor at Saint Martha, Valinda.

PADRE DENNIS PRISCO Nacio el 6 de Julio, 1963 en Butuan City, Filipinas a Esteban Prisco y Cresenciana Salipong, es el cuarto hijo de la familia de ocho (8) niños. Entró al Seminario de San Juan Vianney en Cagayan de Oro, Filipinas y fue ordenado al sacerdocio el 25 de Junio, 1996 en la diócesis de Butuan. Él vino a los EE.UU. y sirvió en la Diócesis de Lubbock, Texas, en Diciembre del 2010 hasta el agosto del 2012. Llegó a la Arquidiócesis de Los Ángeles en junio del 2013 y asignado como Pastor Asociado en Santa Marta, Valinda.

If you are 18 and over and would like learn about our Catholic Faith, as well as prepare to receive your Sacraments of Baptismal, Recon-ciliation, First Communion and/or Confirmation, OR if you would like to convert to the Catholic Faith, Then this RCIA is just for you.

Here’s what to do: 1. Pickup a Registration form, which are available in the Rectory or the Life Teen office.

2. Attend one of the Orientations, which will be held on Monday, Au-gust 19th and Monday, August 26th between 7pm to 8pm in: English: Room 11 Spanish: Room 7 --Don’t forget your completed Registration form and the necessary documents. --Registration Forms will be available at the Orientation.

3. Mark your Calendar The First RCIA Class will be held on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 from 7pm to 9pm in English: Room 11 Spanish: Room 7
