Atherton Border Between CD3 and CD4Next Thursday night, Councilwoman Suzie Price and I will be attending the 52nd annualmeeting of the Sovereign Park Estates HOA. These residences on the south side ofAtherton east of Clark Ave. are in the 3rd district, but they are adjacent to the 4th district.CD4 shares a 4-mile border with CD3, and nowhere is that border "quirkier" than along thesouth side of Atherton between Fanwood and Clark. From east to west, CSULB is in the3rd, but Whaley Park to Bellflower Blvd. is in the 4th. The AM/PM gas station is in the 4th,but the apartment building just west of it is in the 3rd. The Unitarian Church and BoutonCreek Park are in the 4th, but all the residences west of the park to Clark Ave. are in the3rd. I think I'll defer to Councilwoman Price to provide that explanation at next week'smeeting.

And Finally Wolfschmidt VodkaLater this year in Paris, the Thomas Zander exhibition 09.12 Nov 2017 Grand Palais willfeature the black & white photo below. It was taken by Anthony Hernandez as part of aseries titled, "Waiting, Sitting, Fishing and Some Automobiles" (Los Angeles, 1978-1982).From the press release: "Hernandez applies the formal approach of landscapephotography creating detailed compositions that illustrate socio-political inequalities." You may not recognize the black & white photo as a Fourth District location, but it wastaken on the north side of Pacific Coast Highway, just west of Termino Ave. facing west, and that's the famous Java Lanes cantilevered roof to the left. The color photo below itwas taken from the exact same location. The Grand Ave. condos replaced Java Lanes, and the Bay Hill and Marbrisa residential buildings replaced the Wolfschmidt Vodkabillboard.
