O past continuous usa-se para indicar uma acção que estava a acontecer num determinado momento no passado. verb to be

O past simple usa-se: Para acções que aconteceram num determinado momento no passado.

Marion visited her grandmother yesterday. (O momento da acção é explícito. A acção já terminou) Para acções que aconteceram imediatamente uma após a outra.

First she opened the door and then she went inside.

O past continuous usa-se: Para uma acção em progresso (que estava a acontecer) num determinado momento do

passado. Não sabemos quando a acção começou ou terminou.At seven o’clock yesterday Michael was watching TV.

Para duas ou mais acções que aconteceram ao mesmo tempo no passado (acções simultâneas).

He was washing the dishes while she was baking a cake.
