Andersen genève returns to an exceptional watch, imagined in 2000, in response to demand from collectors and admirers of rare mechanisms that bring to life equally rare displays. For this new grande Jour & Nuit, indications have been transferred, highly legibly, on the dial with daytime hours (6am to 6pm) and night-time hours (6pm to 6am), in addition to a small minutes dial. The long tip of the central hand points to daytime hours while the shorter end indicates night-time hours. It jumps when the small minutes hand has made one complete revolution of the dial. These eminently useful functions are showcased together in the new Nautilus Travel Time Chronograph. Local time is set forwards or backwards in one-hour increments by means of two pushers. Their seamless integration into the side of the case at 9 o’clock conserves the iconic design of the Nautilus, launched in 1976 and inspired by the shape of a porthole. SCHLUMPF INNoVATIoNS – TIMe MACHINeSTime Machine, which resembles a longcase clock, is not in fact an instrument for measuring time. Instead, it is a kinetic sculpture for the sensory experience of time through seeing and hearing. As its name suggests, Time Machine is not a clock in the ordinary sense of the word, and the slogan “See time, hear time” reinforces its focus on the sensory experience. What truly distinguishes Time Machine from a conventional clock is that its gears turn in a non-linear way; that is, their motion is not determined by the rigid mechanism that holds clocks to a constant, steady pace. Instead, Time Machine’s gears turn in response to the torque required by their neighbours in the transmission. gears are not interconnected by axles, and the result is a syncopated gear movement.
